episode 66 indigo league?

this ep is kinda old, but i recently just started watching pokemon from the very beginning (season 1) and it was kind of confusing because in episode 66, ash still has charmander, but according to what i remember, the charmander evolved into a charizard a few episodes ago...does anyone know why it is?

which epsiode 66 do you mean? Two episodes were not shown in the US, so the lists are off
 
This episode, and the preceding Christmas episode were initially supposed to air right after the Porygon episode. Since the series was taken off air for 4 months after the Porygon episodes, they weren't seen as seasonally appropriate anymore or something (they were originally supposed to air December 23rd and January 6th respectively), and skipped over. They were eventually aired together as a special half a year later, and 4kids placed them at this point when they dubbed the series, making them not fit in with the current plot at all.

(also, apparently the Japanese Kids Station, which airs daily reruns of the series, has them in this place too, so most likely TV Tokyo's "official episode order" has them there too)

It's very strange, but when I watch the series I watch Holiday Hi-Jynx & Snow Way Out after Ditto's Mysterious Mansion like originally intended.
 
The first (and only) time I watched those episodes and saw Charmander I was all like "What the hell...?"
 
Two episodes
Holiday Hi Jinx and Snow Way Out were aired out of order so they were aired at christmas
Therefore the Pokemon were incorrect
