I noticed that in Episode 49 (So Near Yet So Farfetch'd), when Team Rocket's boat capsizes, Jesse points at two Pokeballs and says "No! My Arbok! My Lickitung!", but Jesse catches the Lickitung in Episode 52 (Princess Versus Princess), and in Episode 57 (The Breeding Center Secret), James mentions that he left a Weepingbell in the breeding center, but I don't remember him catching one. I know there are some banned episodes, but that wouldn't explain the events of 49 and 52 being reversed, and it also wouldn't explain why James hasn't used Weepingbell in battle.

I'm pretty confused. Can someone please clear this up for me? =\

Thanks.

James' Weepinbell was caught offscreen, the flashback he has in "The Breeding Center Secret" is all there is to his capturing it.

The answer to the question about the Princess Versus Princess, is that the episode was aired out of order, IIRC.

Had Electric Soldier Porygon not happened when it did, the Jynx episode with Charmander would have aired after The Problem with Paras - after it had evolved into Charmeleon.

The Kanto days could get weird.

Princess VS Princess was a special episode about the japanese holiday Hinamatsuri (which 4Kids changed into their made-up "princess festival"), and was originally supposed to air that day (March 3rd. However, due to the cancellation of the show following the Porygon incident, the day came and went with no new episodes being aired. When the show got back on air, the episode was skipped and postponed until someone found it a good idea to air it as part of an hour-long special to celebrate the release of the first movie together with the "Kodomo no hi" special (The Purr-fect Hero), which, while the show was actually back on air that day, had been postponed until it's chronologically correct placement.

Then there were the two Christmas specials, which were on hold an entire year, and aired as a christmas special next christmas, and the announced New Years special, which we STILL haven't seen (my guess is that it was nothing but a clipshow, though). Porygon made quite a mess.

Fabuvinny: The Jynx episode would've aired directly after the Porygon episode, with Snow Way Out following it. There's even a preview for the Jynx episode after the Porygon episode.

Hmmm... believe it or not, I want to see the banned episodes. It's kind of bothering me, because the way these guys made it, banned episodes do count. Is there any way I could see those episodes?

And thanks for clearing up this Team Rocket business for me. :)

The only banned episode relevant here was the Porygon ep. There was no banned episode where James got Weepinbell, he just randomly got it. And Princess vs Princess was just aired out of order (Though I seem to remember it being aired IN order here.... from what I can remember of back then anyway) .

Holy crap, why is Kanto so confusing when it comes to episode order? It's kind of weird how many banned and postponed episodes the saga has...

Well it was the first series, and it was the first shows that 4kids ever dubbed. It would be obvious there would be a lot of screw ups back then.

Besides, back then the anime was just a videogame adaption that was meant to end shortly after Kanto.

Once they decided to re-invent the show as a real anime with AG and D/P, the "discrepencies" are all but non-existant.

LOL, Lil Brother. XD

Anyway, to further answer your question, Sanehouse, you can actually see James catching and training his Weepinbell in a certain flashback.

The flashback is shown in the Master Quest (5th season) episode called "Here's Lookin' At You, Elekid".

Heh, I remember all the interesting conversations that episode brought up when it originally aired. The whole thing about James' Weepinbell was very confusing indeed. ^^o

And then they threw in the scene with him playing with one as a kid in the Mime Jr. episode to confuse people who missed that flashback (isn't that right Dogasu, lol)

Of course, Team Rocket's past seems to change alot. lol

Well, it shows James' past quite a lot, but you don't hear much about Jesse, do you?

They kind of started to do that in Hoenn, though, but then apparently dropped her contest storyline for contest cameos.

Everybody forgets about the flashback of James' capture battle against Weepinbell (using Weezing of course) that occurred in the ep where Victreebel left.

So now Kanto/Orange Islands/Johto aren't even a "real anime" anymore?

I think I shall go shoot myself now.

I don't know what the hell Scott meant by that.....

The Anime's always been a "real Anime", AG just introduced some different Anime staples "girly guys, some shoujou elements"

And Kanto introduced Japanese kids eating Japanese food and celebrating Japanese holidays.

Nothing anime-ish about that at all.

Let's put it this way, the show actually feels like shonen since AG began. It feels like the way it should, whereas back then it just didn't feel...shonen for some reason.

I also love the fact that the show has been split between shonen and shoujo because of Ash and May/Hikari. I think it's wonderful that the writers took a show that was mostly aimed at boys and introduced the Contest arc and gave us wonderful shoujo protagonists.

It shows that girls have always deserved as much spotlight as Ash on this show, and it's really wonderful to see female heroines built up from newbies into strong female protagonists.

You actually feel like you're watching a shoujo anime while you watch the Contest arc sometimes, and May/Hikari's coordinator rivals are all based on stereotypes of shoujo anime. It's wonderful that girls have heroines now to look foward to in May/Hikari, while guys get the fanservice as a bonus.
