And now the end is near and so we face the final curtain. As Pocket Monsters Best Wishes comes to a close, I'd like to take time for us to talk about the GOOD times; those episodes and scenes that gave us something worth watching and showed what the saga could've been if only some more effort had been put into it.
And now for scenes I liked even when I didn't care for the rest of the episode
Now it's ya'll's turn! Let's show Best Wishes some lovin' as it comes to an end. The saga will unfortantely be (far) more remembered for what it did wrong than right, but let's use this thread to talk about the good times!
And please, please, no :argue:, or at least keep it to a minimum. There's enough of that going on in other threads pertaining to BW and I want this one to be what we actually enjoyed about it. If someone likes an episode/scene you really don't, please save it for another time. This thread is all about the Love :crush:
BW1
Ah yes, the first episode. So exciting, intriguing and wonderfully animated that let us think we were in for quite a journey...
The Lenora episodes
I liked the battles (for the most part) and character. Plus, it was nice to Ash put some thought and effort into how to beat her before the producers decided to have DEMS and dumb luck save the day.
BW18
Arti was a fun, interesting and likable Gym Leader and Sewaddle was an energetic, fun Pokémon (if only he'd evolved much later). (Also liked Arti in his other appearances, but didn't care for the episodes)
BW 19
For introducing the over the top drama queen Burgundy and featuring our heroes shopping at a PokeMart (in fact...was this THE first time the Show ever had one?)
BW24 & 25
Ah, the good ol' days back when Emolga was a conniving, insubordinate slut lookin' out for #1! (Thank Arceus they're taking her back to that)
BW26
Fun with Ghost-types! Plus, seeing the Trio walk the middle ground between funny and threatening was just neat.
BW28 and 32
Because it was nice seeing Ash actually take time to TRAIN a Pokémon in this saga...
BW31
The one brief, shining moment Trip was given more depth & personality besides being smug and uncaring
The "Good Meowth" episodes
These were actually pretty fun and eventful, thanks in no small part to seeing Meowth as a member of Ash-tachii. Watching his negotiation efforts, having to whoop on people for trying to catch him, and crushing on a cat that turned out to be a dude was oh-so fun! Also like hearing Yamcha special guest voice and liked Leon (always fun to see Show exclusive villains. And it's a live one!)
BW57
Ya just gotta love this episode's senten-themed silliness! (Is it too late for the Mighty Accelguard to get his own spin-off?)
BW58
It's always nice when a GL come back after Ash gets their badge (it's almost like they cease to exist after they've served their purpose) and really nice to see one get the spotlight like Chili does here
. Plus, it was fun seeing Ash act as battle text box, I dug the Rocky references, and certainly one of the more satisfying Ash losses (maybe the Best in the Saga?)
Kami Trio 2 Parter
Seeing Legendaries go all DBZ on each other's asses is most entertaining. Like Gothorita's voice and being shy around Axew. Lots of work for the "sidekick" Pokémon, which we just don't get enough of. And I for one just love how the TRio fucked with an entire eco-system and made Pokémon suffer just to draw out their targets without a care
BW67
This puts me in the minority, but I LIKED Skyla's air battles and how she took a stand for how type advantages work. Plus, I'll root for almost anyone who puts Cilan and his stupid evaluation times in their place
Donamite/Clubsplsion arc
Easily the best tournament in BW (though that didn't take much). Better paced, better use of tourney-exclusive characters--who were a hoot BTW :XD2:--, some overdo on-screen wins for Bel (including one against a certain smug punk who had it coming), and making trainers stick with one Pokémon the whole time enabled said 'mon to get some depth and focus. The only thing that would've made it perfect was if Bryce Howard had ended each episode with "Tune in next time for the next exciting episode of POKEBALL!"
BW77
For Shamus. It is oh-so REFRESHING to have such a total a-hole for a trainer! :-D
Even Paul remarked "What a dick!" upon seeing this episode.
The Brycen episodes
Brycen was a fun & interesting character. Extra focus on Krocky Smalls. Seeing Ash fail his way through traditional martial arts training exercises. Rico (knew there had to be other Pokémon hunters out there!). And the Iccirus Gym Battle is, IMHO, THE BEST Gym battle in the whole saga (thing is, I was fully expecting someone to randomly evolve for Ash to win. I'm deeply ashamed :-()
BW80
Filled with Kanto-style craziness as a young child plays in Poison Powder, Ash-tachii is randomly kidnapped while Nurse Joy looks on, a Pokémon battle is used to settle a simple argument, Burgundy dresses up like an old man (and Ash's remark at hearing her blast off), and--above all else--we meet a guy even GAYER than Cilan! :XD:
BW82
The Kaiju Eiga fan in me just loves this episode :crush: It's just filled with references to Godzilla movies of old (right down to how Mecha-Tyranitar is voiced by special guest star Rodan). In fact, I really wish that the movie had been longer and we'd seen more of what the other contestants did for more Kaiju nods. Though I did crack up at that "Dirty Herdier" line ("I know what you're thinking...Do I have 5 PP left or 10?") and seeing the crystal tower from Movie 3 as a prop (wish they'd had other stuff from the Movie in like that). All this and we have the TRio stalking a Legendary too.
The Operation Tempest 2 Parter
Yes, it should've been better paced (and maybe a 3 parter?). And once again, another villain plot with a rushed, almost anti-climactic resolution (that wasn't Electro-Ball, that was a friggin' Spirit Bomb!). But seeing Giovanni take the stage was just too good!
Admit it: you were cheering him on when he battled Ash ;-)
BW106
Oh, if only the rest of the League had been like this! :bawl:
Most of Episode N
N and Team Plasma bring action, intrigue and *gasp* DRAMA to make things interesting and entertaining. N The Trio start getting their Kanto groove back (more on that later), we get a heapin' helping of Nostalgia in the Kanto fest episode and Charizard joins the party, and even REAL action scenes (or at least for this show). (Even liked the Cheren episode)

The ending of BW5
Pikachu vs. Panpour? Stupid.
The looks Iris gives Ash? Lawlsy.
The "HOLY SHIIIIIITTTT!!!" look on Oshawott's face at the end at about to be hit by aKamehameha Wave Solar Beam? PRICELESS!
Attract Beatdowns (various episodes)
Pokémon: now with S&M!
Peirce's debut in BW10
Poor guy didn't get to amount to much (we can only guess that he had something to do with the original plans for TP) and one could argue that the TRio could've escaped or defeated those cops on their own. But I liked the character design, it's always a pleasure to meet more TR members, always a pleasure to hear from Dan Green (pun intended!
) and it WAS a cool scene. The fact the poor guy was casually and callously discarded by the producers makes me feel for him even more.
The impressions bit in BW69
Seeing the cast--including their Pokémon--dress up as other characters like that was quite amusing! :XD2:
Homika's Koffing
Overpowered? Maybe. But seeing one in action after so long and kicking ass is kinda fun.
Junior Cup Exhibition Match
Leave it to Cynthia and an Elite Four member to give us the only scene in the JC worth talking about (in a good way)...
The end of BW95
The episode is about 2 annoying baby Pokémon fighting & getting into trouble over a worthless COTD--then, without warning, Evil rears its ugly head, complete with creepy glowing eyes! 8o
The fact that an otherwise cutsie & cloying episode ended on such a ominous note is fascinating...
Meloetta's transformations/fights (BW87, BW96)
*GASP* She's a really magical girl!
Kotty vs. Marlon
Maybe it's because Kotty used what intelligence he had for this or because it DIDN'T involve dumb luck or a DEM, but I liked this over most of Ash's Gym battles :loopy:
The combo moves in BW99
Soren & Rocko were obnoxious idiots, but the idea of two Pokes combining moves for one powerful attack is really cool and a little fascinating. I wonder... *hmmm*
Drayden vs. Iris
Seeing Drayden give Iris a karmic smackdown was quite satisfying (now she knows how Langley and Dawn felt!) :-D
Lucario vs. Snivy & Pikachu
The Lucario fan in me was just happy to see him. It was good seeing him give snooty Snivy the whooping she deserved, and I dug the DBZ style action when he fought Pikachu.
The TRio in DA
Say what you will about the adventures in Dregolore with their hit or miss stories (some of which smell like trolling). The fact the producers stooped to making a filler saga when Gen 5 still gave them stuff to work with is annoying enough. But seeing the TRio walk the fine line between funny and threatening like they did in the good old days of Kanto feels my heart with good. I never even though they'd go back there, and it's great that they did :')
