I know, a politics thread not about America. Shocking.

So, voting for the European elections took place today, as well as other local elections. I personally find many of the parties here in Britain to be disgusting - after all the damage Labour and the Conservatives have done over the years I could never support them. Add in the MP expense system abuse, I find it laughable that they believe that the grip that these two parties had over government isn't more-or-less gone.

Anti-EU groups such as the British National Party, no2eu yes to democracy (yes, we have a party with txtspk in its name --*) and UK Independance Party are too isolationist for my liking (getting rid of the legal immigrants will screw over our already struggling economy further). Furthermore, the fact that the BNP is essentially a racist hate group (practically neo-Nazi) means that I'm shocked that they have any kind of chance of gaining power.

In the end, I voted for the Green Party, the only one I got leaflets from that I liked.

im also thinking about voting in the greens, until sunday a still have time to think, i hope that the percentage of voter raises in this election, to give more respect to the european parlament, but sometimes, some partys dont see the good and only the bad

I'm still too young to vote, but if I could, I would vote Lib Dem.

There is a big fear that many people will vote BNP, purely to spite Labour and the Tories after the whole expenses scandal, which I agree is disgusting.

Hooray! :-D I was gonna start a thread, but I didn't really know what to say.

But yeah, both Labour and the Tories have totally lost my support. Gordon Brown's cabinet is a joke atm! I can't vote, but if I could, God knows who I'd vote for. My grandparents voted Labour (because they unconditionally hate the Tories :p), but I think my parents voted Lib Dem.

The biggest worry is of course the BNP, twats. Because of this proportional voting (or whatever it's called) business and the cock up that the major parties have made, they've got a much bigger chance to get the later seats. I'm actually shocked at how much support those arseholes have.

Hmm...So this thread is only about the British elections. :O

I can't vote...but if I could...Labour. D:

While it's utterly disgusting to see the expenses scandal unfold and unravel the British Parliament...I would still support the lesser ebil...I will not vote out of impulse.

Just try to get them accountable...ugh...it's so hard to choose since the Parliamentary system still has the coalition building and all that.

But eh...whatever.

Well, in the Uk anyway... I guess the thread sorta got derailed to the British elections ^^"
Of course it was going to be derailed to be about the UK ones since the OP (me) is British. Anyway, I just assumed everywhere was having them everywhere at the same time.

So there was an EU election. XD

What is up with all of these important elections over the past 2 years? :O

Centre-right parties have gained ground in elections to the European Parliament, according to exit polls and initial results.
Results appeared immediately after voting ended in 19 EU countries at 2000 GMT. Eight other countries voted in the past few days.
All 736 parliament seats are up for grabs. Preliminary figures suggest the lowest-ever turnout, at 43.24%.
BBC correspondents say the figures will dent the EU's credibility.
Fringe groups appear to have benefited, with far-right parties picking up seats in the Netherlands and Hungary, partial results suggest.
Several governments battling the economic downturn look set for a heavy defeat, says the BBC's Oana Lungescu in Brussels.
However, governing parties in France and Germany appear to have done relatively well despite the crisis. In partial results so far:

[*]French President Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP trounced socialist opponents, while greens from the Europe-Ecologie party also made gains

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's ruling centre-right grouping lost ground but finished ahead of its rivals
In Italy, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's centre-right coalition finished ahead of the socialist opposition, with between 39% and 43% of the vote, exit polls suggested
In the UK, the governing Labour Party is expecting a serious defeat, possibly slipping to fifth or even sixth place
Spain's governing Socialists were slightly behind the opposition Popular Party, according to partial results
BBC Europe editor Mark Mardell in Brussels says the parliament in Brussels has been buzzing with activity.

Wow...Seriously...this is just. O_O

I couldn't vote, we're not a part of EU, but I hate to see parties like BNP and Geert Wilders getting lots of votes. They're not going to fix anything with their politic.
I hate those guys

Anyway, if I could have voted, I would not voted (this is unfortunate, but true). However, I'll start caring about these elections when/if we enter EU. We're at least a part of EEA.

Labour was beaten by Ukip?! WTF? And the BNP got 2 seats -_- What is the world coming to?

i voted for the greens, i cant believe the BNP got 3 seats...shocking.

i love how i dont think i've yet to meet a right wing person on bulbagarden :) go liberals :)

Didn't like all the greens get the seats and only a couple went to blue and red?

and meh..a lot of our country doesnt ah ha
