  • Double Stardust (The event says hatching eggs and catching Pokémon only, but stardust from feeding berries is also doubled)
  • Special 2km eggs with 10km Pokémon inside
  • Triple XP from registering new Pokémon in the Pokédex
In addition, three boxes are available in the Shop which include Lucky Eggs, Lure Modules and a newly introduced item, the Super Incubator, which hatches eggs 1.5 times faster!

  • Great Box - 980 Coins: 5 Super Incubators, 4 Lucky Eggs, 10 Lure Modules

You heard it; DOUBLE STARDUST. I'm all in :p
I'm struggling to power up lots of new good Pokemon I got, such as Machamp, Golem and Alakazam; this will be a great chance to strengthen my attackers and save up some Stardust for future use, hopefully.

Anyway, as with all events, it's time for some planning; let's begin!

GOALS:
>Get as much Stardust as possible. This is the main goal, the simplest one, and open-ended too. As many sessions as possible, focused on getting lots of Stardust. What is needed for that is a constant supply of wild Pokemon to catch and Poke Balls to catch them with; the answer is Lured PokeStops of course. However, I've noticed that while catching Pokemon off Lured PokeStops, I spend more Poke Balls than I can get in the same amount of time. So there's prep work I gotta do.
>Hatch as many special 2km Eggs as possible. This is where it gets trickier.
To buy regular Incubators, or not to buy? Will the new box offer be good enough? I don't really need Lucky Eggs now, and only need Lure Modules a little... but I may need Lucky Eggs a lot later! I have a feeling an XP event will come eventually; this one feels like set up for it, giving you Lucky Eggs and Candy (off the catches you'll be doing for Stardust).
Are Super Incubators worth it? Even if they are, how much should I buy/how many Coins should I save? I'd rather keep some, mostly for Premium Raid Passes. These are all answers I can't answer yet, because I don't know what the offer will be; but I'll have to think on my feet and decide pretty quickly. Although my guess for now is that if they give us three good box choices I'll only buy a small one.
What I know for sure, however, is how I'll be hatching the Eggs; the Lured PokeStop sessions will take place in the seaside park, as it's one of the two most popular areas (biggest chance of having Lures at a given time); and of the two, it's the only one where you can actually walk around in a circle of 6 Lures; the other has 3 stationary ones instead. I'm already scheduling with fellow players in Discord over how to do it.

?What about registering in the Pokedex? No thanks, I've got very few species left, if I focus too much on this I'll miss on all the Stardust. This bonus is great for people starting off now, but not as relevant for late-gamers. I might achieve Venusaur/Tyranitar in here if I'm lucky, but getting +1500 XP instead of +500 XP isn't really doing much.
?What about Raids? Another big question. I should be doing the daily Raid still, but need to be extra careful not to spend too much time on it. Not sure if enough people will be interested in these now... they better should, because they really like doing Entei all this time. There might be something good coming out of this, at least; more people willing to do Venusaur/Tyranitar as they won't have them registered yet.

PREPARATION for the event:
>Get as many Poke Balls (of all kinds) and Razz Berries as possible. Going to do this as soon as tomorrow, with sessions off the city centre square with the 3 PokeStops side by side. For the purposes of this event I'm planning to tip my item balance to the Poke Balls side over the Potions/Revives one. What kind of balance, you ask? I only have 350 item slots and don't plan on getting more soon because I'd rather use my few Coins for something better; this means I hit item cap pretty easily and have to regulate how many of each item I'm going to keep/toss so I can keep spinning PokeStops. I never toss Razz/Pinap Berries and don't plan to toss Pinap for this event; it can be quite useful to get some extra Candy on species I can easily catch while I'm at it; I've got evolution sprees to prepare too anyway.

So basically, this event isn't that simple to plan for after all. The simple part of "STAAAARDUST!" is pretty cool; but everything else gets complicated.

My suggestion for everyone who wants to get the most out of this event:
>Get prepared by getting lots of Poke Balls (of all kinds)/Razz Berries before the event begins.
>Find people to do Lured PokeStops together with, and a popular area with lots of Lures that are close by and form a circle.
>Get out there, catch as much as possible, hatch as much as possible.
>If you are still new to the game and don't have many registers in the Pokedex, you could use this as a chance to get XP instead; make good use of Lucky Egg offers, try to register many species.
 
This goes to Oct 2 and beasts rotate Sept 30. The amount of raiding that weekend will be great.

I hope so; it says that we get double Stardust only from catching Pokemon (to exclude the +20 of feeding Berries I guess), but first catch of the day bonus is still a catch bonus, so they better apply it there too :)

I have a feeling that you, as well as several raidmates (nothing personal, most players I've talked with today honestly) are overestimating 3x XP on new registers; for a single new Beast's register, in what would be 500 XP you get 1500 instead, that's only +1000, +2000 with a Lucky Egg; it's not THAT much in any case except if you're a new player who's going to register most of the Pokedex in these ~10 days, in which case the new Beast again is the least of your concerns.
TL;DR even if people rush to do the new Beast, it's not really the XP that seals the deal; we'd rush to do the new Beast anyway; if anything, it feels as if you're better off not focusing too much on Raids for that weekend and leave them for later; you're missing on Stardust sessions if you overdo it with Raids.
 
I meant in the sense the waiters will have added motivation that weekend. I just failed on saying it.
 
Well, the event has started! I don't know if I'm going to spend the money on the special deals yet. I don't really use eggs or lures so I'm not really interested in buying the incubators. I might just buy the cheapest one for my 10k eggs when I get them

I decided I won't be buying any of them; unfortunately it appears that the special 2km Eggs are not the only kinds of Eggs handed out by PokeStops during this event, and not just that! Some regular bad 2kms are still given out too :( The Special Box, being the small one I was interested in, doesn't even have Lucky Eggs and I'm not that interested in Lure Modules.

So my goals are altered a bit:
>Get as much Stardust as possible; still the main one.
>Hatch as many special 2km Eggs as possible BUT don't worry too much about it/make any Coins investment on it. I'll just use the Incubators I already had and I'm in for whatever little I get.

Problem is, only a few hours of Lured PokeStops in the event, my extra stock of Poke Balls/Razz Berries (not Golden Razz) was entirely depleted; which means I need to get half the sessions focused on replenishing items instead of farming Stardust, and this can be coupled with Raids; basically camp the city centre square with the 3 PokeStops side by side, waiting for good Raid Eggs to hatch nearby.

ANYWAY, as for what I actually achieved in the first few hours/first session of the event:
About 62000 Stardust, one special 2km that was Larvitar :D
I managed to catch enough Magnemite (common Lures spawn for the area) for a Gold medal on Steel and enough Misdreavus (nest) for a Silver medal on Ghost.
Used the Stardust to power up Dragonite, Machamp and Alakazam; Dragonite now stands at 2702 CP, #4 of the Top 6; Machamp stands at 2438, and I don't plan on powering it up anymore as it's past Level 30 (anything more leads to a very small CP increase) and Alakazam is around the 1700 mark, still needs work but it's not going to take long.

OH, and a little extra I actually didn't plan but on retrospect I actually should've, glad I pulled it off anyway though! :D I did not catch any Pokemon for the entire day before event started at 11pm my time, and my Catch of the Day streak happened to hit 7 this particular day, so I got that bonus doubled right off :D

So yeah, they do.
 
As already explained in the Adventure Log:
The bad part came afterwards; because of a family-related urgency I had to leave Athens as soon as possible, which would mean catching a bus at 4pm earlier today. This means much less possibilities of actually getting Stardust :(

The rest of the day was just catching whatever little I can, got me enough Stardust to power up Alakazam from ~1700 to ~1900.

So I'll be able to do much much less than originally planned for this event -_- Eh, I'll still do my best; at least there's not one set goal I just can't achieve here, it's about open-ended "get as much as possible" objectives.
 
Hit my weekly bonus today and did get the 6200 stardust. Hatched a 2k egg and got Spinarak. Mite have been lame as I got it before the event started. Also caught a Venusaur(wild) and Charizard(raid) and got 1000 stardust per.

Eggs you got before the event are normal; unfortunately, normal 2kms still come out, I got one during the event and it was Slugma :(
Also, wild Venusaur man, lucky :D

As for what I've done today, very little unfortunately and I doubt that's going to change :( Did my catch of the day at least, 1400 Stardust. Enough to power up Alakazam one more time, slowly :( and steadily getting to that 2000+.
 
Hatched a bunch of eggs today. 3 10k from prior the event got Aerodactyl(2nd tier so candy) and 2 Porygons(2nd was 97% so cant complain). 2 5ks got 84% Mankey and 93% Omanyte both of which were higher then I had. and from 2ks got 4-5 Tyrogue(only 90% had 2 perfect stats and became another freakin Lee), 2 Chansey(think it has to do with location as I got 3 in a row where I was last event), Larvitar(2nd tier so candy), and Mareep(around 86% so will keep).

I was surprised to see Slugma (which I hatched) in the list, but meh at least some actual rare species are in there; Tyrogue too, that's pretty nice :) Still don't have the register for it.
 
I managed to get some more Stardust but cannot power up Alakazam further because of lack of Abra Candy; it's stuck at 1998 CP. But it shouldn't take long until I can catch another Abra to hit the 2000 mark.

Haven't done much with Eggs either, haven't been getting many 2km; I got 2 10km, though, but have no plans of getting them hatched anytime before event is over.

I am considering buying the small box after all, however; I got 2 10km Eggs and could use the Super Incubators for them after the event, I'll definitely need one more Incubator sooner or later, so why not get 3 at a good price now that I can? Not fully set on buying it yet but I'm starting to lean on yes and will probably do it before the event is over; I'm already regretting missing the offer of last event with the Premium Raid Passes, wouldn't like to do the same mistake again.

This is great for me, personally; I couldn't have played much in that day that was lost anyway, but I'll be back in the big city close to event end and will have an extra day to compensate for the losses on Stardust here because it's a rural area.
 
As the event comes to a close, I think I did alright. I got some new egg incubators for more 10k eggs down the line, and am up to over 520,000 stardust. I've almost ran out of Pokeballs! I didn't get any sweet hatches from eggs, but oh well. There's always the next event :)
