Just for clarification, by even I don't mean things like Mew, Celebi and Arceus, but things like Mewtwo, Lugia, Groudon, even Snorlax, Sudowoodo and Kecleon!

Basically, my question is this, I heard a theory that Nintendo were attempting to make the DS Pokemon games more independent, ie. they were trying to phase out the use of the GBA games. They were apparently doing this to promote use of the DSi, which made sense to me. Evidence of this was that you can catch the Regis and the Legendary Birds in Platinum. Before Platinum, you could catch every Pokemon aside from starters and legendaries between Diamond and Pearl, so I'm wondering if people think there'll be any bonus event Pokemon in these new games?

DPPt gives us:

Articuno
Zapdos
Moltres
Regirock
Registeel
Regice
plus starters and legendaries from GenIV, obviously

HGSS will almost certainly give us:

GenII starters
Suicune
Zapdos
Entei
Lugia
Ho Oh

But that still leaves missing:

Gen I & III starters
Mewtwo
Groudon
Kyogre
Rayquaza
Latios
Latias

(I haven't included Nintendo-event exclusive Pokemon btw, so don't highlight that I've missed them out please!)

I know the theory that they're trying to make it complete might be utter bull, but I was just wondering what everyone thought so please don't abuse me for this theory - I didn't come up with it!

I hope we get Celebi this time. It was unfair when only the Japanese got it before.

And maybe Gizamimi Pichu is an event Pokémon for HGSS.

We known that since like may 15th about gizamimi.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a new Genius Sonority title in the works. I'm theorizing it's a Colosseum-style game that will cover some of these. My guess is the gen III starters, maybe the gen I starters, Groudon, Kyogre, and possibly Rayquaza. Latios and Latias may be available in HgSs. I also think the gen I starters might be available in-game, but it would be difficult to get them. I think the previous generation had something like that in either FrLg or Emerald; I'm not sure which, as I never played either of them (and am obviously too lazy to look it up).

You're referring to Emerald, but it was ridiculously harsh. If you completed the entire Emerald Regional Dex you got ONE Johto starter, so without Colloseum, you had to complete the Emerald regional dex three times if you wanted to complete the national once.

When you are talking about the starters and you say available, do you mean you could catch them, or you can find them in trades or recieve them as eggs etc.? Also.. just a question.. a large population of the pokemon fans would want to be able to catch starters - but nintendo never accepts the requests.. is that only because it will make the pokemon less valuable? and do you think the starters will ever be presented in the wild?

The starter Pokemon are supposed to be "special", so I doubt GF will ever make them catchable. Also, they (GF) want people to trade to build their 'dex. Only getting one starter forces you to do this. Unless of course you get a second system and Gamepak.

The only two games where you got more than one were Yellow and Colo. Yellow, because it was based off the anime, and Coloseum because the Gen II starters weren't available in Gen III.

Yeah, I agree with this post. However, I don't think they'll give you both groups of starters though. I mean you already have your Gen II starter given out to you in the beggining THEN when you land in Kanot you get another starter, and when you happen to go to the Sevil Islands you conveniently given a Hoenn starter oppossed to DPPt, where you only get a starter from the Sinnoh region. That's literally 3/4 of the starters being available. If the new Genius Sonority title is an RPG, then I think HGSS will include either the Gen I starters or Gen III starters,,but not both and the starters HGSS ends up not using will be obtained in said Genius Sonority title. I can see Kyogre and Groudon(events maybe similar to FRLG and Emearld?) appearing as well as the Latis. I'm a bit skeptical about Rayqaza though, but that's just me since HGSS would pretty much be flooded with legendaries. Then again that also applies to Platinum. About event pokemon, no doubt Celebi should be in there. Notched-Ear Pichu is pretty much confirmed and Jirachi hasn't any in-game event yet, maybe Shaymin due to a white rock being in Kanto.

I'd make a specific list later since I'm lazy.

Chances are the starters won't be catachable, but will be given away. It's like that in every game, even in Colo and XD.

By the way you're forgetting about XD,you were also able to get all three starters if you beated Mt. Battle three times each.

Kyogre and Groudon may be catchable as Lugia and Houou were in FR/LG.

Back in the third generation, by the time Emerald was around (and if we used events), we were able to get all 386 Pokémon without the GameCube games. I don't think Game Freak is going to use Wii dependency this time around either.

Yes, that's what I meant. It seems likely (to me) that they'll reuse this or something like this, but I'm hoping they find something less brutal.

I don't think they'd be wild. In Colosseum/XD, they could be snagged. I think something like this, catching Pokemon but from a limited selection, could be implemented in the next console game. Either that, or you get them traded to you.

No, I was talking about the console game. You'd get the Gen III starters there, the way you got the Gen II starters in Colosseum. Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza would be in the console game as well (hopefully, with a storyline differing from "Groudon and Kyogre fight, Rayquaza calms them down," considering they've recycled that two or three times already). Latios and Latias would be in HgSs, one for each version. Mewtwo, I'm not sure about, but it's been theorized it could appear in an expanded Kanto quest. That should cover all the non-event Pokemon for Gen IV.

An interesting thought. If they're going to remove GBA dependency and avoid Wii dependency, all those Pokemon Gastly's Mama listed would probably be available in HgSs. Legendary overload! But if they split up Groudon/Kyogre, Latios/Latias, and possibly even Ho-Oh/Lugia, it wouldn't be too bad.

Well, since Bonsly and Sudowoodo are available in DPPt, there isn't much point to making him a one off.

Well, sorta. But either way, it's pointless for Sudowoodo to remain a one-time deal simply because it's so EASY to get another one.

I apologize for going off-topic, but when do you get a Kanto starter in Gen. II? I mean, Pikachu CAN be obtained through a method other than a proffessor, so does it count?

I think he was posting an idea, not what actually happened.

I think GenI in HGSS and GenIII in this new Wii game sounds is fairly likely. I was fairly surprised there were no starters available in Plat tbh, before Plat's release I was expecting Hoenn starters in it. But if they put the Weather trio and the Hoenn starters in the Wii game, I think that could actually work because I don't see them putting three sets of starters in one game and I really really don't see them putting legendaries that are the main focus of the plot in one game in another main series game, if they're gonna put the Weather trio in another game, the Wii game is a pretty good bet.
