Explanations for strange evolutions.

Alot of Pokemon have extremely odd evolutions that bear absolutely no similiarity to them. Examples are Remoraid, Feebas, and Clamperl (all of which happen to be water Pokemon) Feebas to Milotic makes sence to a degree, as Milotic is an eel, and eels are essentially elongated fish, but Remoraid to Octillery and Clamperl to Huntail/Gorebyss is exceptionally strange in that a vetebrae becomes a mollusc and vice-versa. I have theories regarding both.
Remoraid: My theory is that Remoraid isn't a fish, but a muscular seaslug. If you look closely, you'll notice how long and tube-like Remoraid is, with is a shape you'd expect from a seaslug or similiar oceanic mollusc. As for the apparently bony fins, they are actually Octillery's budding tentacles.
Clamperl: Female Huntails and Gorebysses lay very few eggs a season, and these eggs are all extremely fragile and vulneralbe to predators. In order to protect there eggs, the Huntail/Gorebyss lays them inside the rotted-out shells of Shellder, were they are protected from most predators. Eventually, the egg will hatch and a Huntail or Gorebyss will emerge from the shell.
If you have any other theories regarding these evolutionary processes or other ones which you find odd, then please feel free to post them here.

Rather pointless if you ask me. But fun, and interesting sort of.

Since I love remoraid, I am glad your theory doesn't completely change my vision of it. Still, making it not a fish is most peculiar. I assume that it just losses its bones as it evolves. Like it is broken into small dust like thing and is in the flesh to add some defense. Maybe this sounds idiotic but I am young so this is from a person not completely familiar with biolegy. Same with clamperl, if you don't consider the way we sort animals, and given the amazing speed of metamorphesis in pokemon, I can assume that changing what kind of flesh they have is not that difficult. Especially for pokemon like Remoraid and Clamperl who seem to have flesh fairly similar to their evolutions.

But the question "Why?" should be seldomly asked in pokemon as we could go on for ages and the only conculsion may end with us completely changing the pokemon from what it is to something completely different, "Why does smeargle have paint and a head like that?", "Why does tropius have fruit like things on it neck?", "Why does the murky and calm wobbuffet give birth to a eccentric and bright pokemon when a special scent is there during concievement?", "Why does smoochum completely change shape during evolution?", etc., etc. You see what I am getting at? Like I saw one take on the tropius thing, and it made it into basically a wattle and made it completely not the same pokemon to me, removed its charm. You know?

But, I don't have any theories currently, I'll think of some later.

I'm guessing the "concept" behind Feebas -> Milotic is the idea of an short ugly fish changes into a beautiful long pokemon (drastic change for the "ugly duckling", though this wouldn't explain physicaly why Feebas evolves into Milotic any more then it explains Magikarp -> Gyarados.

Fascinating. I'll go with that. How does Shroomish, a puffball mushroom, evolve into a kangaroo-like creature, though? It would have to be an animal the likes of which is not seen in this world.

Oh, yeah, the shroomush thing reminds my of Sunkern. The only pokemon which I consider to be impossible to explain.

A seed with the head being at the bottom, only grows into a fully developed plant after being exposed to a rare stone, therefore only a very small number have a chance to breed as well as the fact that during evolution the head changes from the bottom of the pokemon to the top and becomes on top of its reproductive material. It is just illogical. I swear.

But now, Breloom seems to be fitting that same catagory as well.

I consider the evolution of Gloom to Bellossom not so much strange but just not practical. Gloom seems like it was made just to look like a pre-evolution of Vileplume with one large budding flower on the top. Bellossom becaomes much smaller and has the one large bud turn into 2 small flowers.

Maybe Gloom only evolves into Bellossom under the influence of incredibly strong sunlight, and the growing smaller and having two small flowers instead of one big one is some sort of strategy to absorb the sunlight without shrivelling up?

your right. maybe breelooms grow a body with a shroomish like head.

any of those wondering about magikarp to gyarados
that particular evolution is based on an japanese legend

I kinda believe that the way Pokemon evolve is very much similar to Darwin's theory of evolution, also I kinda think that natural selection isn't a very big role in Pokemon evolution compared to the real theory (Ehh I don't think it's really much of a theory anymore is it? Anyway..). Not sure if what I am about to say is going to make sense, but what they hey I'll say it. Possibly, most Pokemon might have had only one stage, and no evolutionary stage back when the world was a billion years old. Ancient Remoraid might have never been able to evolve to Octillery at all, and so there weren't many Pokemon species at the time. Well, let's say that there is food stuck between a tight spot in which Remoraid can't get to. That's when evolution can kick in. Though it might take quite a bit of time, eventually natural selection might have a genetically mutated Remoraid evolve into a Octillery and since Octillery is an octupus, it could easily squeez in that spot with all the grub. Same, similar concepts can cause in other Pokemon, such as Oddish for needing a better defense. And over time, Pokemon have developed a high speed of evolutionizing (is that a word? o.O)...So another example I could use is Oddish. Maybe a colony of Oddish needed some type of defense against let's say...a Charmeleon. So, why not have some genetically different Oddish that can transform into something that has some funny smelling honey coming out of its mouth? Stink is a pretty good defense if you ask me! Anyway, so Pokemon in the more recent times are able to evolve quickly due to instinct? It's just something that's pretty much passed down by ancestors I guess, kind of like how cats and dogs don't always get a long. It's just a bit of evolutionary background and instinct.
PRetty much what AnotherFan said (it's okay to call you that right? ^^;; Sorry!) but I'm pretty young as well, and so I might have some mistakes in my theory, but I somewhat agree about what was said in the first paragraph..and hopefully that'd make sense because I tend to make things pretty confusing =__=;;

Nah, it is fine. The fact of them getting more powerful etc. would be fine.

It isn't like we are explaining why does wailmer or smeargle exist like that.
