Okay, so I know how to train for shinies and everything but what just happened to me is unexplainable and inexcusable!

I had a chain of about 30 Larvitar just now, they were swarming at 207 and the chain just broke.

I wasn't on the outer border of grass, I didn't flee a battle, I didn't leave the grass.

I had just made a kill and the only 2 patches of grass that shook were one and two tiles away from me. I avoided them and ran around to recharge my radar.

AS I WAS RUNNING MY CHAIN ENDED!:banghead::banghead::banghead:

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that chains don't end randomly, that there's always a reason for it. Can someone explain?

You probably stepped out of the radar's range. when you run around to recharge the radar make sure you can see at least one of the patches that shook. if you dont then your chain will break.

Re: Fuck Pokeradar!

Two things

One: This is clearly about chaining, why didnt you post this in the chaining thread?

Second: Thread title should be changed.

A) I agree this could/should have gone in the Chaining Thread found here

B) Sketch, just saying and everything but I thought there weren't any rules against cursing as long as it wasn't derogatory. Just curious.

You can swear, but not in topic titles. >_>

Sorry for swearing, I must have missed that rule ^^;;

Also, The patch of grass I was in was only 10x9 so there's no way I could have went off screen, I have no clue

If any mods are out there I'd appreciate it if you could move this to the appropriate section, please and thank you ♥

well, you did something. I'd like to actually see what you did instead of hearing about it because that makes it SO much easier to explain, but obviously that isn't happening. So whatever you did to recharge the radar, don't do again.

Well, I have experienced something like that once or twice during the few times I've attempted chaining. I remember that I was being extra cautious (minding the distance of the patches, resetting when unsure, etc.) but then the reminder came up that my Max Repel had run its course. I stopped in my tracks and used another one, then continued towards the patch I was supposed to step on. Nothing happened.

Now I did read somewhere that replenishing Repels in the middle of a chain session can sometimes mess up a perfectly good chain, but still, that was a bit disappointing...

Quite the opposite - if you don't use Repels, you can end up running into Pokémon that aren't summoned via PokéRadar, thus breaking the chain.

I don't get it how you get shinies with the Pokeradar? But I know you can get them because in Platinum, Dawn says sometimes when you use the Pokeradar, you can meet Pokemon with "different colors"

Ahahahaha, no. At least not in my experience. Chains can end randomly, for no reason at all. When I chained Ralts, I followed all the rules 100%, and never had any reason that'd end my chains, outside of the evil "3 nearby patches and 1 far away" crap that always screws me up. In fact, I had times when the chain broke while I followed all the rules (Even the 3 patches one), and even when the Pokémon I found in the patch was a damn Ralts.

I don't buy that crap after such stuff happening. So I'm gonna say that chains can and will end randomly, when the games feels like pissing you off. ^^

This title just reminded me of:

"F**K SALT!"

Anyone who gets that is a badass.

I think that it's all probability based and that following all the rules just substancially increases the probability of the chain continuing and why even when you break rules it sometimes still continues. Also, with the whole running out of repel on the way to a patch, I have never made it break a chain. I have a tendency to reset but only because I forget where the patches were and I'm cautious.
Some people think that going out of the range of the patches containing the chain pokemon go off the screen can break the chain, not necessarily letting all of the patches go off chain. It's a bit of a grey area. When I first started chaining, I was told that any patch going off screen would break the chain but that I know that I have done that plenty of times and it never broke the chain
