Anyone here playing this?

If you are posting any sort of spoilers please use spoiler tags (and highlight what topic the spoiler covers so people know whether they want to open it or not e.g. "Main quest spoilers" or "Minutemen quest spoilers" etc.)

I got it release day and I'm loving it so far. There's lots of negativity online regarding some of the changes they've made from FO3/NV, but I don't mind it, it's still great fun just trawling about the place. And base building satisfies my hoarding needs!

I'm currently only level 12 despite playing quite a fair bit and I feel like I've barely done anything. Just hung around the top left corner of the map doing little explorations and a few quests while also building Sanctuary up more. Decided to finally hit Diamond City a while ago.

Also feel free to show your character! I'll probably post mine later when I can be bothered sending the image over from the PS4. And maybe just any other screenshots I take that I enjoy.

> not playing xenoblade

get your shit together zebboo

I would probably buy it if I had the systems it was on, fallout 3 looked cool

I love this game. I prefer the new perks system and the dialogue system isn't really a negative to me.

my biggest issue with the game is that your character has a significantly preset background (married, a son, military background), though at least that doesn't affect anything outside of the main story.

My character (David, named after myself plus it's common so it's one of the spoken names!) is a stealthy guy because I always have so much fun being sneaky in Bethesda games

Obsessed with base building and weapon modding as well as I knew I would be after the E3 footage.

I don't know if I'm going to play it, but my brother has spent nonstop hours playing it.

So how great is this game exactly?

I LOVED fallout 3/NV but reviews for this game online arent great :(

I'm loving it tbh. It's pretty damn addictive. I can understand some of the complaints about the dialogue system (I had to turn "dialogue camera" off in settings because I hated looking at my character's face - the lips move really weird) but overall I think it's a great game personally. Changes like the perk tree mixing with SPECIAL is fine with me. And the companions I've encountered so far are pretty cool and more fleshed out than FO3 while they also act as a sort of moral compass for your character. There's also just so damn much to do.

The base building is a little clunky but by god have I loved building up a settlement on a beach. There's some other really neat locations for bases too that I wish I'd found earlier too. And weapon modding is neat in its own way. They've also really improved the shooting.

It's miles better than FO3 imo but... I'm sure a lot of Fallout fans would disagree with me.

I don't know if I'm going to play it, but my brother has spent nonstop hours playing it.

Yeah I know the feeling. Some nights I've been up into the early hours because I'm losing track of the time so easily...

Also later I'm going to upload some of my screenshots so I'll post them back here. The lighting in this game is AMAZING and I can't help but taking screenshots when I'm just exploring. (I'll also show my little beach base.)

Alas, even if I wanted to play this, I lack a PS4 and an Xbox One.

I don't really like post-nuclear-apocalypse as a setting, but I will admit that the environmental scenery shown in the Fallout 4 trailer looks ... actually quite beautiful. And the more I see footage of it (at a local gamestore someone has a copy and tends to play it there), the more it looks like Skyrim With Guns (obviously it runs on an evolved version of the game engine).

^ It's great. The fact that it doesn't have that horrid, depressing sky from FO3/NV and has a normal blue one makes a massive difference. And yeah, Skyrim with guns is probably about as well as I can describe it (of course it's different + better in some ways).

Anyway, here's my dropbox album: Dropbox - fo4 pngs

I'll be adding more as I continue playing. I guess some of the stuff in there might be considered a little spoilery (there isn't much if there is - I'm not close to finishing the main questline and I haven't done many secondary questlines/faction quests yet). There's a few characters and mostly just location shots I liked and very few if any are spoiler territory.

Towards the end there's a lot of shots of my base on the beach - it's the place with the propeller engines on the roofs and the little camp on the shore. You'll know it when you see it probably cos there's various shots of it.

I would just link a few of the shots I like, but I like too many of them so can't be bothered fighting with myself to choose. (Although this Mass Turnpike, the school bus and this wildnerness one are p cool I think.)

And yeah, Skyrim with guns is probably about as well as I can describe it (of course it's different + better in some ways).

Let's see here, among the various things I've noticed....

+ Exact same lockpicking system as Skyrim
+ Semi-unkillable NPC followers
+ Very similar stealth system (hidden/detected, caution/danger)
+ Ability to see container contents without popping up a menu
+ Persuade dialog options color coded according to rough success rate (yellow=easy, red=hard)
+ Dialogue animations are better

-- VATS may not pause things, but it still slows time by too much (feels like 10X? should be maybe 3X + perks; compare Skyrim's Steady Hand archery perk)
-- Guns always seem held in a ready-to-fire position, not realistic (contrast: bows in Skyrim are only in such position when holding down the button to ready an arrow)
-- Dialogue animations still feel stilted/creepy
