Familiars

In the world of Eden, magic and advanced technology is apart of everyday life. Many people study hard and learn to become Magi. Magi are prominent magic wielders who, who are capable of harnessing magic for either combat, medicine, or science. In Chaos City, your home which happens to be the largest settlement in Eden. Every year in Chaos City, a handful of promising magi Youths are selected to partcipate. The Summoning Ceremony is an important festival where several promising Magi summon their familiar for the first time. The Familiar they summon is becomes their life long partner, and protecter, and are meant to be perfect match for their wielder. Familiars are usually the spirits of deceased warriors, or sprites of nature, or possibly something else entirely. But their usually humanoid in nature. You will learn to perfectly synchronize with your familiar, and overcome the trials that face you in the upcoming future.

This is a Science Fantasy RP, where you'll be one of the teens who receives a Familiar, whom you control along side your character. Thanks for reading, and now we'll get down to business.

Name: William "Will" Clover

History: Will is an upperclass aristocrat from the higher class neighborhood of Chaos City. His father had run a large a large billion doller company that manufactures and sells chocolate and candy. Being well known for its popularity among all ages, and its high quality, Clover Candies is the most popular and most profitable Candy Company in Eden. How ever, after the murder of his father. Will has Taken over the Company, and has managed to keep it on track to the point where it continues to grow in size. However, he's still dedicated to one mission. To find and kill his Father's murderer. Despite being heavily busy with business affairs, Will studied very hard to become a Magi, and his intelligence has been thought to be boarder line boy genius. He excels at magic, using a magical revolver he was left by his father after his passing. This gun is called, Fenrir.

Abilities: Will is extremely smart, being able to run a world wide company with ease, being a master of delegation to get things done. He's also great at solving puzzles and riddles. He's also an excellent marksman, particularly when using Fenrir. And Despite being young, he can keep a cool head under pressure. His cool atitude however, can be a bit of turn off to others. Will also prefers to read and gather information, not being all that athletic.

Powers: Will uses Fenrir as a medium for Magic, using it to cast spells. In terms of battle style, he's an Agile Sniper, who can play keep away fairly well. But excels at simply providing suport by sniping from the back lines. Fenrir doesn't actually shoot bullets, it actually fires compressed Magic and can have different effects depending on which spell Will uses.

1. Blaze Shot: Will fires a red orb from his gun, and it explodes with with a small burst of fire upon impact. Great against foes who are vulnerable to fire based attacks, or starting fires.

2. Aqua Shot: Will fires a blue orb from his gun, and it explodes with a small burst of water upon impact. Great Against Foes who are vulnerable to water based attacks, or putting out small fires.

3. Bolt Shot: Will fires a yellow orb from his gun, and it explodes with a small burst of electricity upon impact. Great against foes who are vulnerable against lightning based attacks.

4. Heal Shot: Will fires a white orb from his gun at an Ally. Heal Shot can heal slightly critical wounds and some internal injuries, but its incapable of healing Will.

5. Lock On: Will Fires a purple orb at one of his foes. It doesn't do any damage, but upon impact, the target starts to glow with a dark green aura as they become "Marked". Marked opponents take more damage from attacks, as there armor becomes weaker and their pain tolerance lessens. Lock On can only be used on one opponent at a time, and it only lasts for 3 minutes.

Name: Nova
Age: 17
Gender: Female

Appearance: Nova appears to be an ordinary looking girl who stands at 5 foot 7 and weighs 110 lbs. She has an ample bosom, and pale white skin with out a single blemish. She has straight black hair that comes to her shoulders with long bangs that come just above her scarlet eyes. She usually wears a white collared button up long sleeved shirt with a black mini skirt, and a pair of black boots.

Nova takes on a different appearance in battle though, as she transforms kinda like Magical Girl. In battle, Nova dons a one piece skintight black battle suit that consists of leggings that come down to her mid thigh, and jacket like top with slightly loose fitting sleeves. This Jacket exposes her Midrif, revealing her toned abs a small amount of her bosom. The only thing covering her chest being a 12 inch wide leather strap. Also in this form, Nova has a pair of Snow White wings, and black cat like tail with a spike on the end that resembles that of a Cartoon Devil.

History: Nova was once a forest sprite who protected an uninhabited forest from any potential threats. She lived isolated from the world, unaware of the outside world. But one day, during a terrible storm. Lightning struck a tree, and burned the forest to cinders. Nova did everything within her powers to stop it, but in the end. Nothing but ashes remained, and Nova lost her physical form. However her soul lived, on as a potential familiar.

Abilities: Nova is fairly athletic, even in Her Human form. She's fairly resourceful, but because of the fact that she lived alone in a forest for most of her life. Nova is a little Naive when it comes to the outside world. Despite this, her energy and enthusiasm to the things she wants to do is almost unparalleled.

Powers: When in her True Form, Nova is very strong physically, even being able to use her wings to fly. Her strength and agility make very mobile and deadly in close range. She is capable of small amounts of shape shifting, being able to change the appearance of her body parts, but she can't transform her entire body at once. Nova is also capable of some elemental Magic since she is a sprite. Nova's true weakness however, is her lack luster defenses. She doesn't wear any armor, and has no defense against Magic save for Ducking and Dodging. Because of this, she's more reliant on playing keep away, hit and run strategies, or being healed by an ally while mounting an all out offense.

Spells: (Similar to the ones for your Mage. Describe what they look like when being used, and what their meant to do. Don't make them overpowered)

1. Slash: Nova transforms her fingernails into 12 inch black razor sharp claws that are extremely durable. She then slashes the foe.

2. Crunch: Nova transforms her tail so that hit becomes much thicker and stronger, as the spiked tip transforms into what looks like the head of a hammer head Shark, and it's fanged mouth clamps down on the foe

3. Feather Burst: Nova flaps her wings, and launches 12 feathers to attack her foe. These white feathers become hard and fly like daggers, piercing everything they hit.

4. Bubble Bomb: Nova summons a blue bubble the size of a beach ball, and hurls it at the foe. It pops on impact, and bursts with tremendous amount of force and water.

5. Fire Wave: Nova creates a shock wave of fire, and hits any enemy within a 5 foot radius.

Name: Emi Nakamura
Age: 17
Gender: Female

Appearance: Emi stands at 5'1", and weighs in at 137 lbs. She has dark green hip-length hair that compliments her blue eyes, a slightly larger than average bosom, a mechanical left arm, and somewhat tanned skin. She usually wears a navy blue coat with the left sleeve neatly ripped off, a red t-shirt, a black skirt, white knee-socks, and brown boots.

History: Emi was your average middle-class citizen. Her father, Kai, built mechanical prosthetic limbs for those who were unfortunate enough to have missing arms or legs. When Emi was born, her parents noticed that her left arm was deformed. Agreeing with doctors to amputate the deformed arm, Kai quickly set to work making a mechanical arm for her. When Emi's mother, Haruka, told her about Magi, Emi started to study intensely, hoping to become one herself. When Haruka told Kai about this, he made suitable adjustments to Emi's next mechanical arm to aid her in this venture.

Abilities: Emi is fairly agile, and somewhat stronger than average due to having a mechanical arm. She's bilingual, being able to speak both English and Japanese. Emi can set clear goals and stay focused, and she always looks on the bright side of life.

Powers: Emi uses her mechanical arm to cast spells, as it transforms easily for the corresponding spell. She's somewhat of a jill-of-all-trades, master of none; she can fight decently up close and at a distance, but she prefers close combat.

Spells:
1. Fire Blast: Emi fires a blast of flames from her elbow. This explosion is quite powerful, but has a lot of kickback.
2. Energy Buster: Emi transforms her hand into a small cannon, and fires bullets of energy which have no elemental properties. She can charge this spell for more power, but at the cost of some of her stamina.
3. Stun Shock: Emi shoots a small laser from her index finger, which shocks her opponent on contact. This spell has a chance to disorient the target for about 5 seconds.
4. Heal Force: Emi sprays a green mist from her thumb at an ally, healing minor wounds and injuries.
5. Target: Emi fires a purple beam from her palm that makes a red crosshair appear over her target, making her next spell more powerful and accurate.

Familiar
Name: Shade
Age: 23
Gender: Male

Appearance: Shade has black hair and red eyes, with eerily pale skin. He has a tall and slim build, and mystical-looking tattoos on arms. He usually wears a grey long-sleeved shirt, black pants, and black dress shoes.
His true form is a black silhouette of his human form, with red glowing eyes and long, gangly arms.

History: Shade was a good man in his previous life. Well, not exactly; he was part of an underground gang, but he was still a good man at heart. His name was Ken Kisaragi, and he was also a Magi. He utilized his magic for stealth, and preferred to keep to the shadows, earning the nickname Shade. His specialty was reconnaissance, spying on rival gangs for the benefit of his own. One fateful day, he went with a fellow member, Daigo, on another recon mission. But, as it turned out, Daigo was secretly allied with a rival gang. He betrayed Ken, shooting him dead. Now a Familiar going by his old nickname, Shade seeks revenge on Daigo for his murder.

Abilities: Shade has better than average stamina, and has the ability to hide inside shadows. He's quite skilled at stealth, being able to sneak past and follow people without being detected unless the person is extremely wary. Shade's usually calm and collected, though sometimes his temper gets the better of him.

Powers: Shade can create weak clones of himself, and disappear into the ground and reappear anywhere where there is darkness. Because of this, he is quite mobile. He can also extend his limbs and regenerate lost body parts using shadows. He is, however quite weak physically, and because he is, essentially, a living shadow, he is extremely susceptible to spells with a light or divine element. Therefore, he usually plays keep-away, and helps his teammates with buffs and debuffs.

Spells:
1. Shadow Punch: Shade reaches into the ground, and his fist emerges from the target's shadow, hitting them from behind.
2. Shadow Hold: Shade commands a clone to grab the target by the ankles, slowing them down and potentially (though rarely) immobilizing them. The clone's grip is somewhat weak, so it's not especially difficult to break free. He can also use this on enemies lying prone, and this variant is somewhat stronger.
3. Dark Lash: Shade's arm turns into a whip, allowing him to strike an opponent up to 5 feet away.
4. Dark Element: Shade throws a dark red sphere at an ally, imbuing the next offensive spell that they cast with a dark/shadowy element.
5. Blind: Shade makes darkness surround his opponent, reducing their accuracy.

Magi
Name: Artemis Kreuss
Age: 17
Gender: Female

Appearance: Artemis has long black hair that goes down to her waist, she usually keeps her hair in two pig tails so that it doesn't fall down so far though. She has green eyes that shine with eagerness and some playfulness as well as white colored skin, she also has a nice hourglass figure. Artemis usually wears a white sleeveless jacket over her black top, the jacket in turn has a black circle on the back. She also wears a pair of black jeans and black shoes.

History: Artemis lived in Chaos City with her family since an early age, her father was a teacher at one of the city's many Magic Schools and as thus Artemis always had the presence of Magic around her. While she wasn't very used to it till after she hit her teens she was able to grow acustomed to it and was able to learn to control her magic. She didn't lead much of a special life as a kid, though she always wondered who and where her mom was, all she knew about her was that she had been a powerful Magi just like her father, as thus she made it a goal to find her one day and still pushes forward with it.

After spending years training with her magic Artemis finally managed to convince her father to allow her to be in Chaos City's Familiar ceremony and is eager to go into the world and face new adventures.

Abilities: Artemis has a very good memory, this allows her to learn spells easily, though she still has trouble controlling them. She's also good with different types of weapons such as guns or swords, though she likes guns a lot more.

Powers: Artemis has a special ability called Overflow, this ability allows her to use the energy around her in order to use her spells as opposed to using her own energy like it's usually done by most Magi, Overflow is very hard to control though and using it too much can cause a strain to her body.

Spells: Artemis uses different types of spells, though most of her spells are elemental spells she tends to lean more towards the shadow type of spells.

1. Blazing Haze: Artemis surrounds her hands with fire and is able to shoot powerful blasts of flames at her opponents or surroundings, the spell itself is very basic and doesn't have any type of effects aside from that though.

2. Clear Clean: Artemis can use this spell in order to achieve invisibility, she can only stay invisible for a few minutes though.

3. Shadow Gun: Artemis can condense shadow magic onto her fingers and use them as guns in order to fire shadow bullets, she can also condense the magic onto her palms to fire bigger blast of shadows at her opponents.

4. Healing Aura: A spell that surrounds Artemis with a membrane of magic, while surrounded by this membrane she can heal herself from any damage she receives.

5. Sword of Black: Artemis's most powerful spell. It allows her to summon a black colored sword, the sword in turn gives Artemis a boost in speed and strength, while also allowing her complete control of the shadows around her, this spell is also very dangerous and she can't use it for long periods of times or else it'll risk breaking her body down.

Name: Jason
Age: 18
Gender: Male

Appearance: Jason has long spiky black hair that he usually keeps in a messy fashion. He has a pair of violet colored eyes that reflect his innocence and his quiet demeanor. He has an athletic built and has developed an average amount of muscle on his arms, he also has slightly tanned skin. Jason wears a brown sleeveless vest with a long neck, he also wears a pair of red fingerless gloves, with both of them having metal plates stuck to the back of his hands. He wears a pair of black combat jeans.

History: While he doesn't know why, Jason has forgotten all of the memories of his past life, the only thing he can remember is that he died approximately 10 years ago.

Abilities: Jason has increased strength and speed due to his training, though he doesn't really know much about what that training resulted on. He has a keen eye and is able to see though his opponent's abilities and figure out a way to fight them off.

Power: Jason's power is called Assassin's Booklet. This ability gives Jason the power to summon multiple ypes of swords that can vary from shape and size as well as having their own unique powers. Jason is only able to use swords that already exist though and he can't use swords that are currently in use (have an owner) or that require more power than what he's able to muster.

Spells: Jason doesn't use any types of spells as he only relies on his power as a Familiar, he however is able to chant spells in order to increase his physical features and abilities.

Here's my character!

Magi
Name: Lucrezia Alkemyra; nickname: Luca
Age: 15
Gender: Female

Appearance/Personality: Lucrezia has piercing sky-blue eyes that radiate her constant curiosity. The girl’s feathery blonde hair is almost always falling into her face in messy strands and snarls that she doesn’t bother to take the time to brush out. Lucrezia is of average height for her age, though quite slender. Her skin is fair and pale, though it freckles if she spends time in the sun. She wears a variety of brightly colored and strangely patterned tunic dresses, and rarely bothers with shoes.

History:

Lucrezia was brought up as an only child of a family of scientists. Both of her parents are professor-researchers for the biggest Magic School in Chaos City. Lucrezia’s parents are often away from home, at the School or on research trips. At times when they were present at home she was simply unable to find them in the strange labyrinth of a mansion that she called home. As a child Lucrezia was allowed to wander freely and do as she wished, which included reading every book in the her parents’ sizable library, thoroughly exploring the mansion gardens and grounds, and running her own experiments in the neglected basement laboratory. A lonely childhood is one often spent daydreaming and playing with imaginary friends, and Lucrezia was no exception, as she dreamed up ghosts and creatures and constructs and monsters as companions on her adventures. Her parents employ a small staff who are in charge of household affairs and ensuring Lucrezia learns what she must in order to be successful in Chaos City; the head Matron in particular cares for Lucrezia and was the one who arranged for her to enter the Summoning at the early age of 15.

Personality: Lucrezia is intensely curious, and coupled with her lack of interaction with her peers this leads to her having a sense of blunt honesty and little decorum. She speaks what she sees, though it may not be what everyone else sees, and asks what she wants, whether or not the questions may make others uncomfortable or angry. Lucrezia speaks in a high, clear, and confident voice, though when discussing something she is interested in the girl tends to speak quite fast and can’t always be understood by those around her. Being an optimistic girl by nature, she generally treats everyone she meets as a friend or an ally until proven otherwise. As a result of her mostly self-taught childhood at home, Lucrezia is a very fast learner, although with quite unorthodox methodology.

Abilities: Knowledge of science and laboratory equipment, chemicals and elements, basic alchemy, has studied several languages.

Powers: Lucrezia uses manipulative magic to disarm and immobilize her enemies and also to make their attacks ineffective or negate them entirely. As a result she prefers distance combat and is not skilled in close or hand-to-hand combat.

1. Cast-off: Negates the effects of a spell affecting the caster, such as blindness, confusion, paralysis, etc. Appears as a shower of light washing over the caster.
2. Lethe Arrow: Temporarily induces amnesia in the victim; lasts for various periods of time depending on the strength and weaknesses of the victim. For example, a strong magic user might be muddled and confused for a minute, while a commoner with no magical ability may lose their memory of the past 8 hours. Appears as an arrow swirled in shadow shooting toward the target.
3. Stealthy Grasp: Snatches the enemy's weapon or other held item. Has a chance of failing, depending on the target's evasive abilities. Appears as a silver hand reaching toward the victim.
4. Winged Embrace: Protects the caster from physical attacks and magic dealing physical-type damage. Appears as a pair of silvery wings enfolding the caster.
5. Sun Strike: A flash of intense light intended to blind the target for a short period of time.

Familiar
Name: Jori
Age: 20
Gender: Female

Appearance: Jori is tall, with an hourglass shape, and long black curly hair. She has bright blue eyes, pale skin, and wears black shorts with a tight blue sleeveless hooded top.

History: Jori was a pickpocket who used her magical abilities to steal valuables and sell them for money. Unsurprisingly she was caught and killed by a merchant's guards.

Abilities: Jori is still an effective pickpocket and thief. She is quite sneaky, has great stamina, and prefers close quarters combat.

Powers: Jori has the ability to deceive and charm others with her magic.

Spells:
1. Nightwalker: Gives the caster darkvision for a limited period of time, makes their eyes glow.
2. Somni-kiss: Jori's touch causes the target to become sleepy or completely fall asleep for a time. No visual effect.
3. Optic Screen: A shimmery wall appears in front of the caster, who is then shielded from casual glances of passersby. Does not hold up under a long look or intense scrutiny.
4. Moon Blade: Rays of moonlight coalesce into a deadly dagger.
5. Doppelganger: Jori's most powerful spell is to change her appearance to that of any person she has met more than once; she maintains their appearance for as long as her magical strength can hold out.

Originally we wanted to go by pairing everyone up with someone else but we decided that everyone will have their own pairs of Familiar and Magi in case that if someone were to vanish it wouldn't cause the pair to suffer cause a person's left.

Let's say we want to, though. Can we, if we feel so inclined?
 
I want in on this, and I swear I didn't know Elphie was in it... I just love playing a Druid in DnD so I love my familiar.
 
I also seem to be the only one going with a nature spirit as their familiar. I'm doing a giant dire wolf... pup... for character reasons.

But if you guys want to I guess we've got no problem, I mean if you all want to do the switching and pairing and such then it's okay by me xD though we'll have to think of a counter measure in case someone drops out.

And that's okay @jasonwolf; there really isn't a restriction as to what a Familar can be, as they are spirits.
 
Uhm I've hit a snag with the history of my family as its a wolf pup... it would wake up play with its siblings, its mom would come home with some dead deer, and then it was off to bed to repeat it all. I might be able to expand it slightly, but not much as its not human.
 
I'm working on mine. I'm just having trouble with what powers my Magi should have. And my Familiar is going to be a kitty-cat. :-)
 
Ok I think I got this. Fair warning I'm now hastily editing with little ideas.

Magi
Name: Jasper Wolf
Age: 17
Gender: Male

Appearance:

History: Jasper comes from a line of Magi known for developing a branch of nature magic known as primal which taps into the raw bestial energy stored in animals and people. This magic gained them prestige and they grew in class because of it though they have never embraced high society as it goes against the basis of the magic, which has occasionally drawn scorn to the family for not acting like the rest of the aristocracy. The Wolves live in a large lodge in the city with a decent amount of land surrounding it. Jasper is the latest generation of this family along with his little brother Thomas. He is a brilliant if not excessively excitable magi in training who truly embraces the family tradition. All members of the family have had a wolf familiar though the type have varied greatly. Jasper has always been dying to summon his wolf, and knows it will be the strongest and most powerful of all his ancestry. He’s even put off summoning it to ready himself for its greatness. Jasper wild and boundless energy make him unyielding in spirit and body, but the world holds him back his lack of social knowledge. Being in such an awkward place between classes Jasper has not spent much time with others his age, and honestly more time off practicing for or just daydreaming of the day his familiar would come.

Abilities: Jasper is an excellent acrobat and climber, as he would often climb the trees around his family home and the lodge itself. He also has great skill in unarmed combat, but does know how to use a boomerang quite nicely.

Powers: Primal magic is a hard to tap into magic that requires keen instincts that you are born with or can never attain. It deals with unleashing the pent up energy we naturally retain, as well as dealing with drawing power from the great beasts of the world.

So in specific Primal magic does have a certain affect on its Magi. It is countered by raw magics that don't tap into other natural powers, so arcane attacks are very strong to it. It does give the user strength over normal physical weaknesses common illnesses almost never affect the magi and they are immune to weak poisons like alcohol. Primal Magi tend to be great with animals, but have a preference for dangerous creatures. This can lead to isolation from humans though.

Spells: (What kind of spells does your character perform? Describe what they look like when their performed, and what they do. Try creating a theme among them, and don't go overboard and make them overpowered.)
1.Lunar Howl: This piercing call echoes out through the lands for all to hear. Whenever Venik hears the howl he is filled with primal magics and grows into his full form for a short time. The farther Jasper makes the spell travel the more tired he becomes.
2. Rending Claws: A magical silver aura surround Jasper’s hands and turns into giant wolf claws which he uses to tear flesh from bone.
3. Hunter’s Mark: If Jasper injures a target and they attempt to flee he can sense them if they are still in the nearby vicinity. This is very short ranged, but can sense through near anything.
4. Instinctive Lunge: Jasper leaps at his quarry and attempts to kill or knock them out with one quick surprise attack. If they know he is there, or have time to react its just an enhanced jump attack, and he has no opening to make the fatal strike.
5.Unwielding Stampede: The spirits of nature rise up to strike back without mercy against those who appose it. The big issue with this spell is it requires a lot of nearby natural objects. In the middle of the city its completely useless. In a big forest it can be devastating.

History: Well like most wolves it was a mundane daily wake up eat sleep routine. Though his pack was by far one of the fiercest residing on distant mountains that no man had ever climbed. Venik was still but a pup when he was killed as he was the runt of the litter and not strong enough to live in the harsh environment. He was in that form when he was brought forth, but the surge of magic entered into his body and became dormant until Jasper awakens it.

Abilities: Well he’s a wolf he’ll bite your head off, rip open your chest with his claws, and then bury you where no one will look. Along with all normal wolf skills.

Powers: Venik having lived in a place far from the magical society of the humans had little magic in his body, but the sudden rush of magic filled him with power.

Spells: (Similar to the ones for your Mage. Describe what they look like when being used, and what their meant to do. Don't make them overpowered)
1. Monster’s Eyes: Venik gives his foe a paralyzing stare that terrifies them. This tends not to work in his pup form and just makes people go awww.
2. Beast’s Hunger: Venik makes a meal of his foe restoring his own vitality doing so.
3. Pack Brother: Venik senses Jasper is in imminent danger, and throws himself in the way to protect him.
4. Shred: Venik’s claws and teeth become like blades tearing through even metal armor.
5. Dire Pelt: Venik’s pelt becomes very hard, harder than most metals, and sharp spines grow along his back.

Other: I also considered alchemy as my magic.

My familiar is gonna be an 8 foot tall dude dressed as a prisoner with a zipper on his stomach that opens into hell itself. I know what I want to do, just need to write it out.
