Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has rated Pokémon Battle Revolution, the new Pokémon game for Wii, a 35/40 score. Four reviewers scored the game 9, 9, 8 and 9 respectively. The game was the highest-rated reviewed this week.

Wow. I've been hearing some people act like the game sucked, but it did as well as most other Pokemon games.

The game does not deserve a better score than Ruby and Sapphire's 34/40, period. Frankly, it seems as though Famitsu simply gave Battle Revolution Diamond and Pearl's score for being part of their Wi-Fi legacy.

The game has actually done badly in terms of sales thus far. It placed tenth place on its first week, with Diamond and Pearl returning to first and second places almost inaptly. First-week sales stood at 67,607.

In comparison, Colosseum placed second with 121,900 on its debut, while XD made it to third place with 103,080 units sold.

These guys gave Red Steel the same score, and Nintendogs a perfect.

BR sucks. All you do is battle in Colosseums; it's like Colo's Battle Mode with two extra Tournaments.

Seriously, for one to care about this game they need a Wii (which is even more rare in Japan), a DS, and Pokemon Diamond or Pearl. Nintendo is expecting it to not have the biggest sales.

Yes. Stadium, Stadium 2, Stadium GS, Colosseum and XD were all released well into their consoles' lifetime, and significantly after the debut of their respective generations. Even Stadium GS was released alongside Crystal slightly over a year after Gold and Silver; in a likewise manner, Colosseum was released a year after Ruby and Sapphire, at a time when FireRed and LeafGreen were public knowledge.

What does that mean? From a superficial point of view, it excuses Battle Revolution from its relatively low sales. But more importantly, it shows that the game has more to do with giving a taste of Wii features that are not yet put to use in other games (DS compatibility and Wi-Fi play) and amplifying Diamond and Pearl's sales, than with reaching a high point in its own right.

Why did they exclude GBA compatibility? That would've helped, ya know.

It certainly would have done just that. The thought of opening a brand new mode of GBA Wi-Fi play, which obviously does not exist in the handheld games, is quite appealing in my eyes. Now, that would have made Battle Revolution a competitive game, rather than an alternative arena for Diamond and Pearl battles.

That's actually mainly a result of the release being early in the Wii's lifetime. Most of the Top 10 were DS games with the only other Wii title being Wii Sports at number nine.

As you can see above, you are not the first one to point this and I have already acknowledged the extenuating circumstances.

The fact of the matter is that if Battle Revolution was a far cry from Diamond and Pearl on its first week, it will never have its time of glory. The games to which it is commonly compared, Stadium, Stadium 2, Stadium GS, Colosseum and XD, were all games in their own right and could be separated from the main versions of their generations.

Unless your point is that even the Wii itself is supposed to be second-place according to Nintendo's plans, I believe the argument is moot.
