I thought it might be helpful to post this thread, I asked Damian Silverblade about it but he never responded. So basically in this thread fan fic reviewers say what their looking to read so if anyone reading this thread sees a fanfic reviewer who would like to review a fic like there's then they can PM the reviewer to get there fic reviewed

Heres a format of how fanfic reviewers should post

-Say what type of stories they'll review
-Say what type of stories they won't review
-Say the expected time for a review
-Optional-Format of their review

And since im a fanfic reviewer this my post

Ill review ANY TYPE OF POKEMON,YU GI OH, OR HARRY POTTER FIC. I don't care how long it is or how boring ill still review it. I should get the review within 1-3 days. My reviews basically say what I liked and didnt liek about your fic. Im thinking of a grading system... So if you want me to review your fic then simply PM me cus I know it sucks to be writing to thin air

And to the mods if you dont like this thread then close it

I can review anything I suppose. I'm inclined more towards original fiction though. Be warned, I run through everything in the body of the fiction and review it. Of course I'm an infrequent reviewer, but when I do review I will review the work sentence by sentence.

I'll review anything. Whether it's horror, shipping, romance, comedy, etc. I won't mind how many pages or chapters you got on your thread as long as it follows these conditions:

Nothing too short.
Has to be based on pokemon.
Nuff said.

But be careful, I'm a serious reviewer and I once flamed a person who wrote a terrible fic...

*Turns evil*

So I suggest you write or be prepared to be cursed...

I know you hear me knocking... and I know I'm coming in... quoth the Murkrow... nevermore...

EDIT: Someone ought to make this thread a sticky.

not a reviewer, just saying what I think. Is there really a need for a review thread on this forum? I mean, compared to other forums I've seen, Bulbagarden's fic section doesn't have many frequently updated stories. In fact, mine and about 14 others are the only ones that had a new post within the last month, and I doubt many of them are that long so they all could be looked through by anyone as simple as that.

And seeing as the only reviewers here so far will review just about anything anyway, it would probably make more sense to make the authors be the ones to post what type of stories they have and such. BTW, link's in my sig, I'm open to any and all types of helpful criticism. Even if you're extremely harsh, I'll appreciate it as long as you specifically state what it is you don't like. The only type of criticism I don't tolerate are the useless one's, namely the one-liner "it's good/it sucks" bullshit. With my thread, it'd be wise to read through the first post before going on to the story.

There may be a need for it, given that the default settings cut off at a month but yet we have no penalty for bumping up threads. So you could go waaaaay back and review a fic from, say, two years ago.

which is why I said "frequently-updated stories", as in stories that have most likely not been abandoned by the author at this point in time.

*blush* I didn't abandon Obsession! Honest!

...oh wait, that wasn't about me.

Well, I guess I can use it as an example. It can take several months to work on chapters, and by then everyone else has forgotten about the fic...

Writers write because they have a story to tell. It shouldn't matter whether 10 or 100 people read it; it's not a popularity contest. Tell the author what you liked about their story, and be specific: a particular scene, the characterizations, the setting, the plot, whatever. If you want to assign a grade (like the reviewers at Entertainment Weekly magazine), go right ahead. BenRG usually assigns a numerical grade on a scale of 1 out of 10.

I'm debating the relevance of this thread right now, but I'll leave it open for a while. The most important thing is reviewing fanfics, period, and not how or when reviews are done, IMO.

The reason I made this thread is because it worked good in Serebii for all those people who could never get reviewers because they only had closet readers or their titles turned the people off.

I've had quite a few closet readers on FFN. I have "X" number of reviews but when I check the statistics, I see that a lot more people have actually read the fic, but they haven't left any comments.

If the title is the problem, then get a better title. Peter Benchley's novel "Jaws" was originally going to be called "A Stillness in the Water" until a smart editor got his/her hands on the manuscript. I have been more turned off from reading fics by the synopsis (summary) than by the titles.

Here's a bit of rant on summaries:

1. If I see "I suck at writing summaries," then can I assume you suck at writing, period? Nothing, and I mean nothing, turns me away faster than a writer who believes that his or her story/novel/fanfiction is a piece of crap. If the author thinks this, then I guess I should think the same.

2. What a summary or synopsis should do is emphasize the fanfiction's theme. Here's an example: "A powerful indictment of our capitalistic economy and a sharp criticism of the Southwestern farmer for his imprudence in the care of his land." Guess the novel.*

3. If the summaries deal simply with "what happened" the reader might ask, "So what? What does it all mean?"

Your title and your summary should make people want to read your fanfiction/novel/story. If they don't, then grab a thesaurus or a dictionary and come up with another title. Or a better summary. You will never get reviewers unless you get past this step.

See, I think that summary makes the book sound like the most boring piece of crap anyone would ever wade through. I haven't read it, but I assume it's not that bad.

And I don't think someone necessarily has to be able to write good summaries. I mean, that's like saying that someone has to be able to write good short stories in order to write good novels, and that's certainly not true.

The problem is a lot of the summaries don't make the prospective reader even want to read the fanfiction in the first place. And no, you don't have to write killer summaries, but if you want people to review your fic, you've got to get them interested in reading it.

What exactly are you talking about when your talkign about summaries?

Specifically, I was referring to FFN. When you upload a story or a chapter to their site, you can put in a sentence or two that sums up the story, hence, a summary. Check out some novels the next time you go into a bookstore...usually on the back cover is a paragraph or two about the novel. That's what I meant.

Since we're talking about reviewing fics, has anybody reviewed any really good ones on BMG and can recommend them to others to read?
