Fandom things that confuse me

Maybe someone who played Platinum in Japanese can help me with this.

I go on Japanese sites for fanart, and since lately I've been on a huge Team Galactic kick I find a lot of Cyrus fanart. So um, what's the deal with Japanese fanart connecting him with Rotom? It's not just a couple of artists--it's a LOT. Now, I don't know the Japanese text. I don't know if the half-scrawled name on the end of the notebook was as blindingly obvious as it was in English. But the card game clearly shows that the person who knew Rotom as a child (and thus wrote the notebook) was Pluto. So why do so many people take away the one bit of backstory he gets and give it to someone who already has more backstory than the rest of the gang combined?

So, to make this a full thread, what're some instances of fandom confounding you?

Maybe that's akin to how in third gen the male character got paired with Steven all the time.

Dawn seems to be the Sinnoh bicycle and Lucas hardly gets anything, despite the fact that they fill the same role. Even with Steven there was *some* of him with May.

There's something--rigid roles of the two leads, even though, for all intents and purposes, they're the same character. The only differences in them are cosmetic and have no bearing on playability, storyline, characterization, or anything. So let's have a little mixing it up, eh? Where's the Brendan/Maxie or Lucas/Cynthia or May/Wallace? I don't even like any of those pairings, but it's the principle of the thing.

Lol, speaking of confusing Japanese fanart, I wanna know why everyone draws Red in his RGB clothes in HGSS fanart, when, in HGSS, he appears wearing FRLG clothes. And, in said fanarts, all other characters that appear alongside him are updated and wearing their new outfits. I'd get it if someone preferred his old outfit, but Red is the ONLY ONE in VARIOUS arts by various DIFFERENT artists. WTF...??? XD

Its people's tastes.

Heck, half the stuff I think of would confuse people more than anybody.

Pearl x Cynthia anybody?

Why would Dawn/Cynthia confuse anyone? That is based off the game version of the characters anyway, not so much the anime versions.

You have the protagonist of the game paired up with the Champion, and its a fetish given the huge age gap between Dawn and Cynthia.

Of course something like that is popular in Japan. I wouldn't expect anything less.

Another thing (and an attempt to pry this away from being so shippy-centric)--the whole thinking that if you don't use certain cards in your decks, if not play certain decks entirely, then you're not a serious player. Not everyone has the same play style, and what if you don't LIKE Infernape? What if you can't afford that Claydol that lets you pull more cards?

IT'S FRIKEN HAWT!

There you go, mystery solved.

Now if there is anything that confuses me, it's the amount of Kotone fanart there is of her wearing Team Rocket clothes. Whats up with that? I haven't seen the show in a while and I don't keep up with Japanese episodes so there might be something I'm missing.

Pretty much goes for any ship in any fandom. people will pair any characters just for the sake of pairing them together.

I guess the same goes for Kotone in the Rocket uniform. They just like the imagery.

This is the only community I have been in where ships of any kind had to "make sense" and have some sort of "logic" behind them and not "just because".

Because of the same reason you stated for Dawn/Cynthia.

Also, the Goldenrod Radio Tower event is hard to forget when you put some extra thought into what's going on. From what I remember, this is how it goes:

Team Rocket guy says "No, you can't go up these stairs, you need to be a team rocket member to do that. And team rocket members wear uniforms!" So you then head over to the Goldenrod Underground and a guy in a TR uniform dresses you up and lets you go invade the radio tower. Upon talking to the same TR guy at the stairs, he moves away. Walking to the stairs cues your rival to appear to foil TR's plans cause he hates them and all that jazz. He spots you (and you turn against the wall) and says "Hey wait, aren't you [trainer name]? You are, aren't you!" and promptly 'undresses' you, which leads to that TR member battling you.

The 'undressing' is the usual spinny thing for changing into contest/pokethlon clothes... buuut we all know it's them being undressed and redressed soooo... yeeeaaaah.

Though that really mostly accounts for the TR!Kotone and Rival artwork more-so than just TR!Kotone. But yeah, TR!Kotone is awesome. Wish we could actually battle in the uniform, but you can't even walk out, let alone use a move to get out. D:

I would show examples, but most of the TR!Kotone and Rival fanart is completely wrong and likely NSFW... some so much so I don't know how they got through the R-18 filter on Pixiv... >_>

I hate all Shippings, it's something I really don't like about this fandom..most don't even make any sense.

We Ship together ten year-olds because we have empty emotional sex lives.

Fix'd.

As for something in the fandom I don't understand is why people expect you to know every pointless piece of trivia out there. "You forgot to add Pikachu's other stripe." -_-' Okay, well it's an abnormal Pikachu then. I don't study the Pikachu species.

I don't get why there are so many furries in Pokemon fandom.

Anyone in the Pokemon comms on LJ knows what I'm talking about; half my "friends" posts on livejournal are usually fursona icons, and if you go in pkmncollectors 90% of the icons you see are fursonas or sparklewhatevers.

(note that I am not biased against furries and have nothing against them as long as they're not yiffing or anything in public; I just find it odd that there's such a large furdom within Pokemon fandom)

THIS.

It's a miracle if someone puts him in his FRLG outfit for once, even if they give him black hair instead of brown hair, it's still a miracle that they got the outfit part right. Sense; it does not make any.
