We can't decide on what to do with one of our villains. He is an outlaw Flygon that has escaped from jail, that had a life sentence. He is a thief and also a murderer. to make a long story short: our character Ben (an old Ampharos) used to be on an Exploration Team with his father when Ben was a Mareep. Bens father recieved a letter telling him about a nasty outlaw on the loose known back then as Vibrava, and knowing the risks of taking his young lamb to fight a high ranking outlaw with him, decides to go alone.

Ben decides to follow him anyway, seeing as they've ALWAYS done missions together, and goes into the Mystery Dungeon after him. Bens father confronts Vibrava, and they fight for a long while, until suddenly Vibrava evolves into Flygon! Flygon beats up Bens father, and makes him crash into a wall. Ben comes into the room and sees his father in trouble, and calls Officer Magnezone on his Exploration Badge for help. Flygon, not wanting any witnesses, fires off a Hyper Beam at Ben! Bens father pushes him out of the way and takes the Hyper Beam for his son. Ben is furious! So he tries his best to fight Flygon as best he can (Tackle spam!) until the police arrive and arrest Flygon. It's too late for Bens father, and after teaching him a very powerful but also very risky Dragon-type move (Outrage) and saying goodbye to Ben, he dies.

Ben gives up being an explorer soon after this, and lives alone for several years, eventually evolving into an Ampharos. But then, just when things were looking up for him, with a new friend, everyone reunited and happy, and the world saved, someone comes to crash the party. Flygon escapes from jail! Ben finally has his chance at revenge and goes after him for a final showdown.

Just to spoil you guys, Ben survives. But what to do about Flygon?

We can't kill him, or have him kill himself. That just doesn't seem right.

We can't throw him in jail for obvious reasons. He'll just get out again.

We can't make him turn good or suffer amnesia. He doesn't deserve mercy after what he did.

Any help?

Why exactly can't you kill him again? Is Ben just not able to take a life, or is it just that the Flygon is a character you wouldn't want to kill?

Killing him would be cliche... Nobody likes cliches and it's kinda cheesy after the fact.

I would say any of the following, or combination of the following would work:
Tear off his wings to he can't fly anymore, de-claw, kick him outside the borders of their home and tell him to never return (also requiring a border patrol to make sure he won't come back- perhaps Ben could be the leader of said patrol) and/or have Ben leave him paralyzed so the Flygon is heavily crippled for the rest of his life. :) The last could be done with a big bolt of electricity to the spinal cord... Or just wherever.

Good luck with your story- I sounds pretty interesting.

Clichés can be wonderful if played correctly. Besides, wouldn't the Cliché be not to kill the Flygon? It seems that more villains in media nowadays get trapped in some state instead of dying, or reform to a good character.

Well, we've killed off two of our villains already: Lady Weavile (eaten by her own captives, an Arbok and a Carnivine), and Magnet Man (crushed by his own crusher violently), as for ones who turned good? Harold (change of heart after meeting his brother) and Darkrai (has amnesia). Misunderstood? Fortuno (desperate to rescue his girlfriend at any cost). Got what was coming to them, even though they aren't dead? Tom (got taken down a peg thanks to his team) and everyones Vyce counterparts (taken to another universe where they won't cause any more trouble).

As for the whole paralyzing/de-clawing/ripping his wings off? That could work well! Probably won't need to kick him out of borders if Ben does all that to him. But, Flygon is a Ground/Dragon type, so how is he going to paralyze him anyway?

Get a Scizor to sever his spinal cord or smash it with a powerful blow. Or you could use poisons.

Hmm... there WAS a Scizor that they rescued from that Froslass. Maybe he hears about it and returns the favor for saving his life.

That could work, but poison would be wonderfully effective as well.
And it sounds like you have a lot of villains, lol. You might have succeeded in getting rid of a villain in every way possible in one story. Small wonder you were running out of ideas!

um... they AREN'T all in one story. Magnet Man is in the first one, the other one from the first (Elmo St. Peters) isn't reprimanded, so I didn't mention him, Mack is from the second, Harold the third, Fortuno is from the fourth (oh! and Lavos is dead too in this one too. This story takes place in the Chrono Trigger universe [called the "Millennial" universe seeing as Guardia is celebrating its 1000th anniversary at the beginning]), Lady Weavile, Dusknoir, Darkrai, and Flygon (Primal Dialga is being crazy, but not necessarily evil) are from the fifth, and Tom and Jack are from the sixth. Tom gets taken down a peg, and Jack... explodes.

Wait, how would poisoning him work exactly? That just might make him madder, seeing as now his life is on the line, and Flygon might think about taking Ben with him! And, you know what I'm starting to realize? isn't being paralyzed for life kind of... cruel even for a guy like him? Then again, I did say earlier he deserved no mercy. He's probably not going to last long out there in the wilderness if he's paralyzed. I don't know if I should feel sorry for him or say 'good riddance!'

So he deserves to die, but you don't wanna kill him?

Give him a Fate Worse Than Death.

If you haven't been to TvTropes yet, I warn you to only open that link if you have some free time. You'll need it.

Well, either way- that's a lot of villains who've been taken out. (it kinda sounded like they were all it one- my bad for misinterpreting)

Poison is kinda like acid. It messes with your body permanently even if you survive. So extreme weakness, delayed movement, a leg/arm/or hand could just stop functioning. And, frankly, you don't think that tearing his wings off isn't cruel? He's a great villain that deserves proper punishment for his lovely misdeeds. And, again, if you don't want to be cruel, you could always have Ben beat the crap out of him and then kick him outside the borders and set up a border patrol. Or do whatever the link thing says. *shrugs* (I'll have to read it myself later)

That could work well! but... how is this different from paralyzing him?

Poison or beating the crap out of him? Poison is like paralyzing, only it sounds cooler and it can leave scars of varying degrees. His appetite would also be rather fragile... I think. If he's paralyzed... Well, you'll have to keep the degree of... um... crippled-ness (? Not sure how else to say that) higher. Yeah... I mean, he's not just going to start doing backflips- Likely as not, one half of his body would be gone. Poison only takes a little mobility away.
And beating him up is nice way to break his pride and reputation and then kicking him out with a good ol' border patrol is a nice finishing touch. ^^

Maybe... all of them? Poison AND paralyze him so as he's severely weakened and crippled, de-clawed and have his wings ripped off (somehow?) so as even if he's attacked he can't necessarily fight back (but what about teeth?) AND kicking him out into the wilderness to fend for himself. In this state, they probably don't NEED a border patrol, seeing as after all that, he probably won't last long out there alone with no allies and wild Pokemon everywhere potentially seeing him as an easy meal.

Heh heh heh! Sometimes I like being mean! Overkill is fun!

Overkill= 200 points of damage. :D Makes me think of Glory of Heracles... That was a good game.

Anyway, you could totally do all of them. Leave his teeth though- he should at least be able to eat. Show a little humanity! XD Kidding, but I wouldn't want to be the one with my hand in his mouth when he decides to clamp his jaw shut or loose a hyper beam. You wouldn't NEED a border patrol, but you could still do it that nice little finishing touch because there is no guarantee that Flygon is dead. Or if you're a really mean author (like myself) and like to mess with your readers- you could have Ben want the Border patrol because he doesn't know that Flygon is truly dead, the other Pokemon tell him that there's no way that Flygon survived and then at the very last scene, show Flygon being aided by another Flygon or someone else who's goal is to keep him alive and help him heal. >:D And then never say anything else about it.

How exactly are thy going to de-claw him and rip his wings off anyway? I don't think Ampharos learns any cutting moves, but Scizor does.

You could use Scizor. Or there's also the option of breaking his wings (hard to heal) That could be done with a well-placed trap that drops a big rock or... A little brute strength which most pokemon are capable of. As long as an Ampharos can learn Strength it is still logical. And a battle between them doesn't necessarily have to be linear to the game- just two beasts who aren't fond of each other at the least battling against each other in any way they can.

True! We're already taking a bit of creative licence with the Pokemon anyway- for example, Togepi cannot learn Metronome until level 7, and the Togepi in our story is actually a 3 year old human (although I'm thinking about amping him and his brother 5 so a they have a fighting chance) turned into a Togepi (his brother turned into a Bulbasaur, their parents are a Togetic and Ivyaur) and somehow magically knows Metronome even though he's still young.

And Pokemon can learn an unlimited amount of moves, although there are some moves they use less or more often than others for convenience sake. And Reviver Seeds? Although technically, you can't do this in-game, there is a scene where one of our characters (a human-turned-Kricketune named Randy, whom has been through atleast one other near death experience before. Poor guy. Ironically, he's based around my favorite character, Radio from TBLT series, and yet I'm treating him terribly- he's a Vietnam War veteran, has lost his left arm because of the war and has a prothetic, has lost his wife in a car accident...) gets crushed by a rock, sacrificing his own life to save his best friend (a human-turned-Raichu named Luke) and "repay his debt" to him from long ago (Luke save him from commiting suicide years ago, and Randy wants to return the favor someday), and instead of the Reviver Seed activating automatically like it does in-game, they luckily find one in their bag and stick it in his mouth... and it works! Also, Randy has a rival, an Altaria named Dean whom is vying for the hand of a Clefable they both like, who knows Sky Attack... and he's in his level 50s. Although there might be one little explanation for that, in Gen. I there WAS a TM for Sky Attack, so maybe Dean found an ancient TM that gave him the move.

Oh, and by the way, we always like to have 'voices' for all out characters. Guess who is voicing Flygon? Steve Buscemi, AKA the voice of Randall from Monsters Inc.

See? Stick enough to the games that they won't get mad, and change the details to your heart's content. I do it all the time in my story... My fan fic is pretty much a giant conspiracy that I made up that masterminds the games and centers around one OC, named Sam. Difference being that I change the details... and explain everything from the big concepts of the game to the tiniest details.

Yeah, I pretty much got rid of the 4-move rule in my fan fic too. I decided that they would just have a more limited number of main moves that they use as opposed to going crazy. I tend to stick to the rules on what they can learn but that's just to keep the level of 'that is actually possible!?' up there. But, hey- most people aren't going to Google every move to see if the respective pokemon can actually learn it. So I say, you can totally do whatever. If it was possible once in one game, it's possible in all the others in the pokemon realm.

Aw... That's really cool. Randall was a good villain... I liked him. ^^ Dang that's cool... Makes me think that maybe I should at least find the voice for my main OC Sam... Hmm. It would give me something to do since I've got writer's block like no other right now.
