What are some of your favorite console designs in terms of either practicality (size, weight, features), pure looks, or both?
I think that Nintendo has made some pretty good console designs over the past few years. I really like the Wii U, for instance; it has a nice classy and understated design that looks really good in black, and it's small and light enough to carry and store anywhere (unlike, say, the PS3 and Xbox 360). I also like the GameCube with its unique cube shape and that very useful handle, and, like the Wii U, it also looks great in black (or any other color than purple, really). And there's also the New 3DS, which looks really nice with its Super Famicom-like button color scheme and has some good features like camera-assisted 3D and that strange but useful analog nub.
Those are the main console designs I really like right now. And while they certainly have their flaws, I also have soft spots for - get ready! - the original Atari 2600 models (that faux-wood paneling!), the Famicom, the PC Engine (small yet capable), the Japanese Mega Drive/Genesis, the original Game Boy (practically indestructable), the Super Famicom, the Japanese Sega Saturn, the original PS1 and PS2 (blocky in a good way), the Dreamcast (simple and clean), both the PSP and the Vita, the original Xbox 360 (looks like a bigger, taller Dreamcast), the Wii (looks like a blockier, smaller Wii U), and the original slim PS3 (what the first PS3 should have been). Whew...
