Since there has been bickering and bashing lately our least favorite generations, we haven't had a favorite gen thread in a while, so I made one..

Just state your favorite generation, kay? Gen IV is currently my favorite. I love the new mechanics, story, characters, and pretty much everything else introduced in Gen IV. I thought DPPt were brilliant games, even though HGSS are remakes of my least favorite games, they are pretty good games. Generation III is a dead second simply because it has a variety of interesting titles. (RSE, Gen I remakes, AND Colo/XD.)

I like generation four, personally. I love all the new Pokémon, and the improved graphics over the generations is a plus.

I would say that pokemon wise, i like generation 3 the most. It introduced a lot more steel, dark, and dragon types, which there seemed to be a shortage of. (probably because steel and dark were just introduced in gen. 2, but whatever.)

A year ago, I would have said Gen II

As of present however, Ima go with Gen IV for the following reasons:

1. Even though Diamond/Pearl were underwhelming games for me, I really, really, really love Platinum. The storyline can only be described as epictastic (yes, I made up a word just to describe Pt, that's how awesome it is)

2. HeartGold/SoulSilver. They're remakes of my two favorite games, only bigger, better and more badass. I think the word "epictastic" applies to these games as well. I really love Johto's lore. Moreso than Hoenn's or Sinnoh's because of, not in spite of, it's vagueness. I would really rather they never explained the Unown or expand on the relationship between Ho-Oh and Lugia

3. The physical/special split made some of my favorite Pokemon (like Feraligatr) actually viable in battle

These are just the three main reasons why I prefer Gen IV over the rest. If I were to list all of them, I wouldn't finish today

Generation III.

-Hoenn is the best region by far. As someone else described, it is like a fantasy land. Deserts, forests, oceans, volcanoes, rainforests, and normal cities all in the mix.
-Introduced far more awesome Pokemon, plus more types that we needed, like dark, ghost, and dragon
-The best character designs by far, especially May's RS outfit, and the E hero's outfit. Maxie is dead sexy too. <3
-The music, dear god, the music. Best track of the entire games. Like the legendary Pokemon battle music, Littleroot Town, Elite Four battles, rival battle, wild Pokemon battle... best music evar.
-the plot of RS was quite shocking (especially Ruby's plot. drought is gonna kill us all ;A; ), but the combined villainy of Magma and Aqua in Emerald nearly caused Sootopolis to be destroyed, until Rayquaza and the player pull a big damned heroes and save the day.
-I'll mention the insane awesome that is Magma and Aqua again. I must say I was getting tired of Team Rocket, it was a relief to see new villains.
-the data of the game was much improved, and while I never utilized the fixed IV/EV system back then, I know it must have been a relief for others.
- Hoenn introduced Contests. They finally gave trainers something to do other than raise Pokemon to kill each other.
-There's also Secret Bases, a little fun diversion. I wasted many hours trying to shove as many dolls as I could into my bases.
-Berry planting was much more fun. It did get a little tedious at times, but so does gardening in real life. With a little patience, you have a beautiful orchid growing in front of your secret base. <3

...I could go on and list all the plus that Hoenn brought for me, but I rambled long enough. 8D; I'll be proposing to Hoenn any time now, yikes... So let me end off here, and say, Generation III is my favorite, with Generation IV right behind it.

Pokemon Wise, Gen II. It's when we first got introduced to Dark-Types, which are some of my favorite Pokemon to date.

Story Wise, Gen III. Emerald's story mode was just awesome, and I really loved it introduced two new villainous Teams.

Gameplay Wise, Gen IV. The fact that they made Special/Physical be based on the actual move and not just it's type was just awesome. It made so much more sense then how it was before. Plus, the inclusion of the WiFi features has pretty much revolutionized the game, I think. You don't have to actually know anyone who has the games to be able to enjoy things like trading or battling.

Gen III

Groudon vs. Kyogre vs. Rayquaza is teh awesome.
Blaziken, Swampert and Sceptile.

Some of the best pokemon designs.

Awesome new types of environments introduced. Deserts, Rainforests, an entire city of treehouses, active volcanoes, underwater.
Overworld weather such as sandstorms in the desert, rain on some routes, heavy sun shine, etc.

Best music of all pokemon games ever.

III. The music was amazing. And I have an obsession for Aqua and Magma, so...
Abilities, weather, and HM08 Dive were freaking amazing. And I did adore most of the Pokemon, save, like, Nosepass.

Gen III outshines all others IMO.
The best character designs, music, some really dependable baton passers and the most interesting plot...I could go on rambling, but yeah, the advance gen is awesome with DPPt not far behind.

So many fond memories of gen II. All the other generations are good, but in my humble opinion, gen II is the best.

This times a thousand.

Oddly enough, I seem to get more enjoyment out of the Gen III games then the other ones, even Gen IV (although it might have been fatguie associated with playing the same game too much, I've gotten lazy and I still have to beat Platinum).

Gen III.

The era that said "I choose to be a playable game, screw what others think". And it did just that by having gameplay take the steering wheel. The ability to run, Gym Leader rematches, further exploration to the literal depths of its region, more post game stuff and a heavily created battle facility (one of which brought with it an elimination style tournament the entire point of the series). What took them so long to imply all THAT was beyond me.

Speaking of regions, Hoenn is simply lovely. It really stood out due to the cartoony graphics and levels of imagination (and really, there's nothing realistic or convincing about Pokemon, may as well take the fantasy aspect and run with it) the developers placed for it. I'm glad they remained down that path in Emerald even after FR/LG's appearance.

Mechanics-wise this gen was the best thing to happen to the series. Making an actual reason to breed due to the revamped IV/EV system (please note, breeding was also a much easier task in Emerald due to a monster starting at Level 5), giving Pokemon further individualism with Natures, an actual use for a clock and berries within the overall game.

The Phys/Spec split based on type also seemed silly on paper but the fact that EVERY monster actually had options and a wider pool of ways to throw down not matter the tier was downright great no matter how you sliced it.

That Gen only cared about making things work. And it did, in spades.

My favourite Generation is the third as well, for practically all of the reasons stated in the posts above. It just seemed like there was so much to do, there seemed to be so many secret little sidequests to do as well (such as Rayquaza in R/S or the Regis, or Mirage Island). Not only that, but the environment is so diversified and creative.

And the music, I cannot talk about Gen III without mentionning it's wonderful music. I have a soft spot for brass instruments, so route 104 and 110 are my absolute favourite, but every other track is simply awesome as well. I think there may be two or three tracks that I'm simply indifferent to, and I can't think of any that I do not like.

It's weird though, it seems like just a while ago, Gen III was almost never mentionned as a favourite, now it seems that most of these posts are those calmoring it.

I LOVE YOU.

You have just said everything that I could not properly express or was too tired too type.

Thank You

Wow. Gen III has actually taken the lead. Hurray ^^ Gen II always used to get the most votes, ALthough I have no freagin idea why (I consider it the worst).

Gen III for me.

I guess I just liked it for its speed and all the other little things you could to in the games. And plus, Ruby was my first game so I have a soft spot for it. And don't forget FireRed. Its a great game aswell.

Am I in the right forum? Am I in a forum at all? I can't believe how the attitude has shifted and I wonder why. As for me, I hold no one gen above the others. I liked them all pretty much equally.
