What are your favorite music groups/singers and why?

I have a ton, but here are some of my absolute favorites:

- Anna Tsuchiya- she's a J Pop singer who has a rock/alternative edge to her songs, and her music is pure fun. I found her through the EXCELLENT movie Kamikaze Girls/Shimotsuma Monogatari.

- Ali Project- another Japanese band. Their style is sort of a classical one, with lots of strings and poetic lyrics that can lean either sweet and romantic (early work) or Gothic (most recent work). If you watch a lot of anime, you've probably heard their music- they've done OP/ED songs for Rozen Maiden, Noir, Shigofumi, Code Geass, and several CLAMP anime, as well as the .hack series.

- Flogging Molly- an excellent Celtic folk rock band. They're definitely worth a listen, especially if you like punk or Irish music.

- Scooter- this is a German techno group that makes really good happy hardcore techno. It's very energetic and upbeat and good to listen to if you just want to chill.

Nobuo Uematsu.

Need I explain why?

As far as bands, well, Ozzy Osbourne, Three Days Grace, and Tech N9ne.

Well, the reason I like any song is because I find it really pretty.

DragonForce - British power metal FTW. I love their songs' progressions, the instrumentation is pretty cool, and the imagery is really nice, too.

Luar na Lubre - They fill my need for lovely fiddly, guitar-y, folkish-type foreign music. Or something. o_O

Sarah McLachlan - Her music.... I don't really know how to describe the songs I like by her (besides "pretty," I mean). "Smooth," maybe? A few are "creepy, but in a good way"?

Carlo Siliotto - He did the music for the movie Fluke. It's so sad and nostalgic. ;_;

The Cure - A couple of fun songs, a sweet song, and a bunch of creepy and/or disturbing and/or sad songs. They're all pretty, though.

Basshunter - He has a couple of cute songs ("DotA" is "cute"?) and a just plain pretty song that I listen to.

Qntal - I was fairly recently introduced to them. They describe themselves as "electro-medieval." ...Um, ok then. I like "Indiscrete" because of the beautiful progressions and harmonies, and the awesometastic deep, pounding drums that make it... I guess "sensual" is the right word, sometimes "sexy"; "Blac" because it has a kind of weird but nice beat (not to mention the nice instrumentation and progressions again); and "Vogelfluc" because... it's pretty (and it has that interesting guitar riff).

See-Saw (or sometimes just Yuki Kajiura) - They did the music for .hack//SIGN. The style varies between their songs, from the freaky "Obsession" to the busy, piano-y, violin-y, somewhat sad "Yasashii Yoake" to the starts-slow-but-gets-a-little-frantic, piano-y "Echoes." "Open Your Heart (Reprise)" is so sad and pretty.

I forgot to mention Nightwish. Yay pretty, epick symphonic rock.

Some of my favorite artists are My Chemical Romance, Muse, Maximum the Hormone, Fall Out Boy, Biffy Clyro, Hanson, Meg & Dia, Lillix, the Veronica's, Slipknot, Disturbed, Ashlee Simpson, Mudvayne, Avril Lavigne, Staind, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, System of a Down, Rick Springfield, Placebo, the Beatles, Khaled, Story of the Year, Nine Inch Nails, Utada Hikaru, Plumb, Pussycat Dolls, the Beatles, Three Days Grace, Audioslave, Backstreet Boys, Hawk Nelson, Outkast and Kate Bush.

Oingo Boingo. I was lucky enough to see them in concert in 1994 and it was incredibly awesome (and, as it turned out, they would break up the following year).

Danny Elfman is my all-time favorite movie composer. His music is one of the reasons why I like Tim Burton films so much.

Heaven Shall Burn and Benedictum are my main metal bands. \m/ Amon Amarth and Black Sabbath are pretty good, though I don't listen to them often. Oh, and Nightwish. ;) Though that might as well be in a completely different genre.
Bad Religion and the Offspring for my punk rock.
And some nu metal mixed in here and there.
Despite being an atheist, I listen to some modern Christian songs too. Flyleaf is a pretty good band. :3

Hm, I thought there was a thread like this already. Musta died.

I don't have very varied taste in music, I mostly listen to the same stuff over and over until a new album comes out, then repeat for a year or two. I love instrumental music, which is mostly why I like DragonForce; their songs can easily climb to seven or eight minutes, but half of it is instrumental, which I love.

My other main band is the Black Mages, which uh, yeah. XD; Final Fantasy has a lot of the best video game music I've ever heard, and of course 99.9% of it is lyricless.

And um, I've been looking into getting another metal band. I bought a few MP3s of Symphony X the other day, and they're cool. :O Also, OCRemix.org ftw.

I always feel compelled to post in these threads...dunno why. It's mainly about indie rock and death metal for me. Bloc Party, Maximo Park, Kaiser Chiefs, the Arcade Fire, the Postal Service and Minus the Bear would represent my favorite indie rock rather well, and A Life Once Lost, the Red Chord, Nightrage, Dog Fashion Disco and the Black Dahlia Murder cover the metal genre in general. Honorable mentions that don't quite fit include Clutch (hard rock) and the Streets (indie rap).

Edit: Forgot to mention the best band, ever. Motörhead. Hellz yeah.

Me too!! I saw them in concert October 2007! One of the best live bands out there!!

Gackt- I love his song Vanilla, but it's his personality. Funniest Gackt moment- him yelling "fuck!" during a pool tournament. Oh yeah, sexy as hell too

Peter Schilling- 80s German singer famous for Major Tom (Coming Home). Great songwriter. His German stuff is on YouTube.

Sandra Cretu- In my opinion, Germany's greatest female singer ever! Great songs, great everything!

Arabesque- 70s/80s German girl group, Sandra Cretu was a former member. I heard they sold 6 million in Japan. They put out some great songs

Christina Aguilera- One of the greatest female singers ever! I love her so much

Bands rock related......and occasionally nu-metal. Depends on how the song sounds to me anyway.

Umm... Lets see...

Green Day
Linkin Park
All American Rejects
Avril Lavigne
Three Days Grace
Beastie Boys
Chris Brown
Deaf Pedestrians
Eminem
Foo Fighters
Jay-Z
Plain White Tees

That's about it right now.

Edit: My new favorite is Trapt. So good.
