What is your favorite Sinnoh/Hisui lore?

Mine is everything that has to do with the creation trio.
  • While most Pokemon lore has some sort of mythology involved (Mew, Johto Trio, Unown, etc), the Gen IV games just added a whole new level to it for me with Arceus & the creation trio.
  • Although locked behind event items, making them mythical, something about Oak’s Letter, the Member Card & ESPECIALLY the Azure Flute (if Masuda would’ve just released it for OG games) were always so intriguing, even as an adult. The inaccessibility without DNS glitches/people using surf (JP) or tweaking (US) probably adds to aura around it.
  • Additionally, non event locked areas such as Fullmoon Island, the Lake caves & Spear Pillar itself give me the same feelings.
With that being said, I was always so/so on Mystery Gift items. Being told Darkrai was gone forever as a kid was the worst thing in the world. The FOMO approach is brutal. But, while I don’t want to encourage mystery gifts, it really did its job in making the mythical feel well, mythical.

TL;DR - Creation Trio, favoring mythology and weird locations. Example from newer (Gen IV) games (Newmoon Island, Fullmoon Island, Spear Pillar, more) & examples from old games (Faraway Island, Mirage Island or Cerulean Cave)

  • I feel the same as you, Fullmoon Island, Lake caves etc... Feel very mysterious.
  • The Distorsion world: I wonder how the plants grow in there, and if there are other Pokémon besides Giratina.
  • I love the road to the Flower Paradise. All flowery, with the peaceful Floaroma Town music. The whole Shaymin event is very nice.
  • I found Rotom randomly when I first played Platinum and it felt like a Legendary Pokémon. I also like how scary the Old Castle is. (I still wonder who are the ghosts in the castle)
  • I love how Phione is so unique. It's good that they finally gave it a signature move in PLA, it's one of my favorite Pokémon:bulbaLove:
  • The mysterious messages around Hisui: the old verses and the messages on the walls written in an ancient language. Though it's frustrating that we can't decipher the latter.
  • The ruins in Coronet Highlands, with Clefable and Probopass statues. We don't really know anything about them, maybe they were built by the Celestica people?

From theories I'm sure we've all seen, the Distortion World doesn't seem to house any other Pokemon, but I would be willing to bet Unown either exists within that dimension or whatever dimension the Creation Trio resides in. I would absolutely love to see more lore for the distortion world. As for the plants, I believe Giratina lightly represents anti-matter, so perhaps some cool mirrored way of plant growth. Platinum really nailed it with the Distortion World. Great addition.

Flower paradise was one of my all time favorites. It gives me the same feeling the old Windows XP background would. Open fields, blue skies, almost ominous, but wholesome.

Rotom is sick. Perfect way to encounter him. His legendary music implies he was one but they changed it. Yet another Platinum addition, but the Secret Key used to change his form was so cool. He's a legendary in my mind.

Phione & Manaphy are just awesome. I'm a completionist, so I still need to buy some games in order to complete the entire Pokedex in Gen 4; so I gotta get Pokemon Ranger (new copy) and get that Manaphy egg.

I don't care how complicated it is, I agree with you, we should be able to decipher most if not all ancient text. Make it hard, we don't care GameFreak!

Hopefully we learn more soon about the ruins. Celestic Town is so eery to me, I love it. Young me always thought there was supposed to be a legendary standing in the middle of the dip in Celestic Ruins (the OG with only one floor)
I am SO happy that they swung back to Sinnoh/Hisui lore for this one. Never gets old to me. It got even cooler because we went BACK in time. That's better than any book you can read at the Canalave Library for lore!

I will not get sick of Creation lore. Nostalgia goggles mixed with them all being so genuinely cool makes all current Pokemon just unable to reach the same level as the Gen IV ones do for me. Nothing wrong with the new legendaries at all, but BRING ON THE ARCEUS LORE!
