Which one is your favourite Dragon Ball series?

Personally, mine is the original Dragon Ball; there is a lot of character development in the (relatively) short timescale. Next, GT - it's underrated and though it isn't canon, the storylines tie in a number of earlier characters (like Pilaf). DBZ is great, but in 291 episodes, only three real plots (Frieza, Cell, Buu), and the fight scenes are far too long.

My favorite is Dragon Ball Z. DB is cute and all, but my favorite characters are all from DBZ. In any case, both have that unique DB character interaction, which is what I really like about the whole series.

I'd rather not remember that GT even exists.

So the Saiya-Jin saga doesn't exist now?

I know what you're saying here, but the Saiyajin saga, which started with Raditz and, I gather you take it as concluding with Kakarotto and Kuririn letting Vegeta go? The whole Namek thing followed directly on from that, whereas the Cell storyline was completely different.

I'm torn between DB and DBZ. But I love them both for different reasons. I love the light-hearted humor of DB - and I love seeing what sets the tone for all the great things that happen in DBZ.

A lot of people complain about the length of the fights - but it just wouldn't be the same to me without ten minutes of "Kaaaameeeehaaaameeeehaaaaaa!" to be honest.

The Saiya-Jin Saga is probably one of my favorites. Exact reason, unknown, but likely due to the introduction of Vegeta. Who is my favorite animated character of all time.

I love Dragon Ball Z & Dragon Ball!! Its the reason why I started to watch anime and to make me start working on making my own comic!! Its one of the reasons why I like to draw anime/manga characters!! Also, to this day, I still draw DBZ characters (which counts as the most characters I've drawn from any series)!! Such an awesome series it was!!

"...And thats how I became a Super Saiyan. Yes, the sleeper has awakened! I am now the Prince of all Saiyans once again!" -Vegeta

The Android saga followed directly after Freeza with Trunks killing Freeza and his father. That led directly into the Android saga. The Android saga then led directly into Cell. It's all connected.

Saiya-Jin (or Vegeta...whichever you prefer), Freeza, Cell, and Boo are the four main sagas recognized by most fans and official sources. And that's not counting the filler sagas the anime had, such as Garlic Jr. and the Afterworld Tournament.

Pocket Monsters managed to go 276 episodes with only three sagas, so I think Dragon Ball Z has it beat.

That's pretty much my stance in this, too.

It's why I avoided using the term "saga" in favour of "plot"; the Freeza saga is a direct continuation of the Saiya-jin saga, without a break in them. (And, Garlic Jr is best ignored.)

And, agree with super saiyan ... Vegeta is the best anime character. Ever. Well, at least until he falls in with Bulma.

And the Trunks saga is a direct continuation of the Freeza saga. Yet you still count those as separate storylines.

And there is a break between the Saiya-Jin and Freeza storylines. After the Vegeta fight, there's an unspecified amount of time (weeks? months?) where the characters have downtime to recover and figure out their next plan of action. You're acting like they all just hopped on a ship to Namek the day after Vegeta retreats or something.

Erm, if I recall (correctly or otherwise), Kuririn suggested travelling to Namek whilst they were flying around collecting the bodies after the Vegeta fight. The break you're referring to is the time spent in constructing the spaceship (ten days? - will check on this), while they discuss how to deal with Vegeta (and obtaining the Namek DBs); they don't know of Freeza yet. If they had Senzu beans and a spaceship, they probably would have blasted off the next day to Namek. (Cue scene with Bulma telling Kuririn how long it would take to travel without a warp drive.)

And yes, Freeza's story properly comes to an end with Trunks' slice n' dice, with the major break (three years, IIRC?) occurring between then and the appearance of the androids.

Incidentally, Wikipedia (in all its reliability) lists the Dragon Ball Z sagas as: Vegeta (Saiyan), Namek, Ginyu, Freeza, Garlic Jr, Trunks, Androids, Imperfect Cell, Perfect Cell, Cell Games, Great Saiyaman, World Tournament, Babidi, Majin Buu, Fusion, and Kid Buu.

Meh, I still love him even after that. I think I just like uber-arrogant saiyans who wear pink shirts and make smart-ass remarks constantly. It's good quoting material.

I prefer Dragonball, just because it's funnier.

There is ONLY ONE... Can you imagine Nappa or Raditz, or shock horror, Kakarotto or Bardock, in a pink shirt? (Somehow I doubt Bulma had the "Badman" screen print done for his arrival.)

The idea of Nappa in a pink shirt has left me laughing pretty hard. I think to that, Vegeta would be making fun of him pretty hardcore. Raditz could almost pass for a chick in a pink shirt with that long mane of his...

Why even differ betwen them? It's the same series, based on the same manga, with no real difference between them in style. Sure, early DB and late Z is very different, but the change came gradually. Pocket Monsters consists of 3 series as well, but people mainly discuss the various arcs, not the various series.

Those are the names FUNimation gave their DVD sets, nothing more. The Norwegian Wikipedia page lists the sagas as Saiyan, Freeza, Cell and Majin Buu (with the manga page adding Son Goku, Red Ribbon, 22. Tenkaichi Budokai, Piccolo Damimao and the 23. Budokai) , a much better way to divide the series.
