Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

The original Pokémon Theme is probably my favorite, but that might just be nostalgia. Born to be a Winner isn't too bad, and neither is Unbeatable, but most of the theme songs Hoenn and on are terrible.

Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

Japanese or English?

If Japanese, "OK!", "Together", "Aim To Be a Pokemon Master", and "Advance Adventure".

If English, "Unbeatable", "Believe In Me", and "Born To Be a Winner".

Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

Review time!

Pokémon Theme: Eh, it only really has nostalgia going for it. It's rather grating, really. :p Love the movie version, though.

Pokémon World: Kinda cute and catchy.

Pokémon Johto: Love it. The only real flaw is the episode clips really contrast with the opening clips, and most of the episode clips merely feature Pokémon that are already in the opening, so...

Born to be a Winner: It's grown on me. You gotta love the opening verse, even though I don't care for Pokémon Theme. :p

Believe in Me: A pretty good tune. Don't like the random clips of Misty and Brock at the end that don't fit at all.

I Want to be a Hero: Like it. Could be a bit longer.

This Dream: It's up there.

Unbeatable: See, this one's a problem. The song itself is one of the best dub songs, but... they totally butchered Pokémon Symphonic Medley and Battle Frontier (J). It's a mess of clips that go a mile a minute, features Ash and May with teams they don't get until the end of the season, has two different teams of Ash's featured, and makes a mess of the "Look, all the legendaries, and the last one to be featured is fittingly Ho-Oh" thing Meldey had going for it. Not to mention spoiling the existance of several DP Pokémon way before they should have been. What makes it annoying is that they could have made an excellent opening using only clips from Medley.

Battle Frontier (E): Kill it with fire! :p No Team Rocket? Completely leaving out all of Ash's Pokémon, except for some reason Pidgeot and Larvitar's mother? (Well, that was in order to have a shot of all the twerps, but still, super-random). And the song... blargh!

D/P Adventure (is that what it's called?) : I thought it was amusingly awful at first, but as time went on I shuffled it to the "Kill it with fire" category.

We Will Be Heroes: Pretty good.

In conclusion, Pokémon Johto's probably my favorite. Now if you need me, I'm going to be worrying over how they're going to handle High Touch. :D

Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

As with theme songs, I like the theme songs from seasons 1-8. I do not like the theme songs after that.

"This Dream" is my absolute favorite along with the 3rd season opening.

Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

"Believe in Me" is my absolute favorite. I also like "Pokemon Johto" and "This Dream"

catchy tunes, I tell ya!

Re: Favourite Opening Theme Songs

My top favorite themes are: "Pokemon Johto", "Born To Be A Winner", and "Unbeatable"

I love those songs! <3333

Also, David Rolfe is a great singer! He did an excellent job singing the Pokemon themes! ^_^

1. Pokémon Theme - Season 1's opening, or "Gotta Catch Em All!". What can I say? This deeply nostalgic theme speaks bounds and volumes within itself. It has a great, underlying, solidified beat, the initial scenes bear an ineffable level of inspiration to me, the music flows well from the visuals (rather than the antipode), and this theme defines the series as a whole in English to me. I'm rather a fan of Jason Paige's work myself. And, by that mindset, I still favor the Pokémon techno remix. Maybe that's just some inscrutable notion of nostalgia, but still. An instant classic, and a great way to flare up the dub. I also like the Italian dub's inaugural opening as well (which I find to have nicely paced beats).

2. Master Quest's opening - or "Believe In Me". Not quite as good as Season 1's opening, but there's a great beat situated under this score and it follows the tone very well to me. And, for that matter, the animation and footage is equally good in tandem. If the series were to end at this point, I think this would be a great dub opening to end it on.

3. "I wanna be a Hero" - Advanced Generation's inaugural opening. For a series that I don't like that much, I feel the theme is very good. I rather like the style of music and vocals, and David Rolfe certainly helps here, as he does in every Pokémon dub opening I've heard him partake. The pace is set very well, but I only put this theme this low because I don't care for the Pokémon much after Johto (as I feel they become less characters and more wallpaper).

4. "Unbeatable". Not quite as good as "I wanna be a hero", but it covers things on a scale at large and gives us a good look at all the Pokémon and locales of this generation, while still giving an invigorating score and footage that's on equal footing for me.

5. "This Dream". Not quite as good as "Unbeatable", but not bad, either - it loses itself a bit as it draws on, but it's good to me.

6. "Born to be a Winner". It's a tad too brief for my tastes. The theme itself is good, though it feels just a tad... hollowed out and superficial to me, like it could have had much more epic and dramatic treatment but instead was toned down.

7. Battle Dimension's opening - "We will be heroes". I'm of the thought that this was surprisingly good given how laughable the previous two openings are, in my opinion. It has a very strong undertone and beat, but the footage could be a tad better to me.

8. Pokémon World. I don't like this much... at all. I suppose any style of music isn't squandered so much as it needs good application, but I feel there's too much rap and it's not enough of its own thing. The footage is good, but I'm just not for the rap. A very sharp decline in quality by comparison to Season 1's opening, IMO.

9. Johto Journeys, or "Pokémon Johto". The footage, animation, pace, and syncing... all of that is very good, but I just can't peter out the style of music used here. It's not only far too upbeat for me, but I just... don't like the style of music... at all. It galls me to no end. I don't find it very catchy. But that's just me.

10. Battle Frontier. Too short, not worth my recollection, very uninspired, and the beats themselves aren't very ardent or dramatic to me, but just sappy and irking. Pass.

11. Diamond and Pearl. Wow... and I thought Pokémon World's rap was bad. Nevermind that, I mean, I feel there needs to be balance struck between conveying a message and the way the music is used (in that the music can be clashing with even the most subtle change to me). This theme just hulks out of "quality" in all aspects to me. The rap, the footage... none of it qualifies for even "apt" in my opinion.

Those are my sentiments.

I actually rather liked all of Johto's openings. Its funny, the Johto theme songs really made you think the actual Johto saga was going to be epic.

I remember watching the Johto Journies opening as a kid and being so hyped up about the next new season at the time, only to be let down when I watched the actual episodes and all those damn fillers.

The Johto theme songs were quite catchy, too bad the kind of excitement and action found in the opening themes don't reflect the actual episodes in that particular saga.

Pokemon World. I love that song, and I bet I'm the only one who feels that way. I just really like rap/rock music.

The original theme is a close second. It's just a nice catchy song.

I don't really know the others songs until DP that well, but 4Kids made some really enjoyable music for the show. The first DP opening is just bad, but "We will be Heroes" is pretty good.

I like "This Dream" But I voted "We Will Be Heroes", cos that is just awesome! I really like what they did with it in contrast to D/P. Stupid raps D:<

I... was very torn between This Dream and Unbeatable. I ultimately chose This Dream because it just seems to have this unique, almost semi-serious beat to it at the beginning which sets itself apart from the others. Felt really epic. But Unbeatable really sounds... well, unbeatable. It's full of energy and spunk, and it just sounds like a freaking party. I greatly enjoy it.

Pokemon Johto and Born to be a Winner are also really, really awesome to me. Pokemon World was awfully fun to sing along with.

Yeah, hands-down, my least favorite is Diamond & Pearl. This might have something to do with me not liking really bad rap music.

I have three total favourites: Believe In Me, I Want To Be A Hero and Unbeatable. Of course I like the very first english opening very much-it is one of the best, too. We Will Be Heroes is also very good but I think it`s too short.

Season 5,7 and 9 I have not heard, but I like the original theme (nostalga reasons) and I want to be a hero (my favourite), maybe pokemon world, guess I am one of the few who liked that theme. I did not like the D/P opemning music at all, but Battle Dimention was better but I dom't like it much either.

No time to question my moves i stick to the path that i choose, me and my friends are gunna do it right! Gunna see whos gunna whip up a fight! To be a master is my dream.. and all i got to do is believe!

Love those lines in Unbeatable

These lines are from Believe In Me, not from Unbeatable.

It's hard to say which is my favorite. The original theme, it takes me back. Born to Be a Winner is pretty good, too, although I thought it was bit too brief. I liked the animation, especially seeing the gym leaders with their Pokemon.

I'd go with Pokemon World. The original would have been one, but it's too played out and I'm sick of hearing it. Third would be Unbeatable, then Pokemon Johto and We Will be Heroes would round out the top 5.
