I went with Serena. One of the best character developments I've seen, albeit kinda slow, plus the romantic "subplot" and some interesting Showcase performances. Yes, she may have less Pokemon than Ash's other female companions, but she's good at battling too, heck her Braixen was able to hit post-league Pikachu pretty hard and she was able to hold back Team Flare for a bit. I think that Serena may reach Misty status eventually, as they are both well loved (and hated at the same time) in the community, plus their shippings are 2 of the most popular as far as I know.

Well, since the only series I've actually seen all the way through is XY/Z, Serena and Bonnie are easily two of the best pokegirls the show has produced - even if it took almost 60 episodes for Serena to get something to do and some people may get fed up with Bonnie acting (surprise, surprise) like a kid

From what little I know of other girls, they're May and Max done right

 

[Islander Princess]

Misty. I like that she's not a super stereotypically girly character that the anime seems to try and rely on a lot. I also felt she had the most dynamic personality out of all of the female companions. Not to mention, her character development was gradual and not thrown directly in your face. A lot of fans seem to deny that she had any development at all, but I strongly disagree with that. It was more subtle, which I appreciate. She also has some of the best one liners in the entire show.

 

[Sakuraa]

May is the top favorite, closely followed by Bonnie. Both are adorable and have very enjoyable personalities with very few annoying habits.

Serena and Zoey are other female characters I really like.

 

[Fiamette]

I really would have chosen Misty, but I'll have to go with Serena. I didn't really like her at first, but I grew to love her character and her team (despite it being so small). Sure they don't battle much but like Sir Cookie says, it's not like they're weak or anything.

I still sincerely hope Serena can somehow get her own special of her time in Hoenn so we can see her train as a Coordinator.

for me it would have to be between misty and dawn

I loved misty in terms of personality as well as her interactions with ash and brock and the fact she actually did some what grow over time

I liked dawn in terms of personality and they way they treated her as a character in terms of giving her a goal and her growth
