My favourite starters will always be those from red/blue and silver/gold
They were so fresh , new and just done Right.

My favourite will always be Charmander , he was beast and very cute XD

I find now as the games begin to age , the starter pokemon are begining to really suck... I mean black and white , excluding Snivy , the other two sucked... A pig on fire?
At least oshawott was cute , but his last evolution looked so different... not very cool at all (in my opinion)

Anyway what do you guys think ? and who is your favourite starter ! :)

My favorite starters are Chimchar and Snivy. I like the newer Pokemon. There are some exceptions of course though. I think Samurott is really cool. I love Tepig, but not its evolutions so much.. I love all of the starters though. The only one I'm not too fond of is Torchic for some reason. I only ever chose Torchic just to get Blaziken because Blaziken is awesome.

My favorite starters are, overall, the ones from Johto and Sinnoh (even though Torchic of Hoenn is my favorite of all). In order, they are Torchic, Turtwig, Piplup, Cyndaquil, and then Totodile.

Eh, I think that it all depends on personal taste as to whether the new starters are better or worse. I personally don't like any of the Red/Blue/Yellow starters at all, and I've been playing since those games originally came out. And then when D/P came out, I think that those starters are fantastic, both in battle and in design. So yeah, I think it depends on what you're going for in a starter, cuteness or ferociousness, stuff like that.

I thought B/W's starters were alright, but I do agree that Oshawott's final evolution is kind of off-putting. Tepig I just don't like at all, but Snivy has a very good design through all of its evolutions.

Chimchar! I think it's so cute! And Infernape is the coolest starter form ever, imo. Also, I don't think the gen 5 starters are bad. I like all three, actually, though Oshawott and Snivy more than Tepig. I just think Tepig's evos suck. The rest are awesome.

oh okay ! :) I too love Cyndaquil and totodile . Cyndaquil is probley my second favourite

I would say ... Charmander - cyndaquil - bulbasaur - totodile - squirtle.

I find it sad not many people seem to like charmander ... his design to me for a pokemon is perfect , charizard was simple beautiful :)

I hate Charizard. In fact, I think it's ugly aside from its shiny form. I just don't like the short stubby legs or pot-belly.

Also, I think Samurott is kickass in design. A sword-wielding otter with a majestic horned helmet? That's just epic.

monkey on fire :P yeeah I do like chimchar , I just hate his last evolution =[

So? Charmander can be defined as a lizard on fire. Torchic is a chick on fire. What's your point?

And Charizard is awesome to YOU. Not to me. I could very well tell you "how dare you, Infernape is amazing!" but I'm not, because we each have our opinions and must respect that.

:O I didn't mean to offend you. I was only messing , ofcourse everyone has a different opinion. =]

Ah, alright then. Good. Also, it should please you to know that I hate Blaziken even more than Charizard. Fugly four-limbed chicken with a weird face.

Anyway, my favorite starters are as follows. Chimchar > Snivy > Chikorita > Oshawott

The four I really like, anyway. I actually used to be a little terrified of Oshawott because its face somewhat resembles a clown's (what with the red nose and all) and I happen to be culrophobic (fear of clowns), but came the BW anime, I found it totally cute. I love Ash's Oshawott lol.

hahaha, I guess we both agree upon one thing then , blaziken is a ugly samurai fried chicken ... with weird legs ^^ XD

Yes oshawott is veryyyyy Cute <3

Statistically speaking, Game Freak had a pretty good track record keeping all of the Starters on par with each other and relatively useful when compared to other Pokemon. The Kanto Starters are no less useful than the Sinnoh Starters or vice versa. However, they pretty much dropped the ball with Unova.

Speaking from a purely technical point of view, the Unova Starters are pretty bad. They either have all the right stats in all the wrong places (Emboar,) the worst possible movepools (Serperior) or the most bland combination of typing and stats (Samurott) that prevent them from truly shining through.

Serperior's movepool is something Game Freak should be ashamed of, Samurott fails to stand out in any way due to his bland typing and boring stats and Emboar needed more speed with those defenses. Somebody once said to me that this was potentially intentional in order to encourage players to use multiple Pokemon when playing through the game and not rely on their Starters too much. While I agree with this assessment, the truth is that all three Unova Starters suffer greatly for it.

In this Generation, yes, the Starters have become worse. However, this was not true for any of the previous Generations where you had excellent Pokemon like the monkey and Swampert.

Design wise, I like all the Starters of every generation and Unova is no exception. I believe that all three of them look amazing in their final evolutions. With that said, I find myself only liking the entire lines of the Kanto and Johto Starters. Starting with Hoenn, I have not been fond of any of the Starter's middle forms or even most of their primary forms. Mudkip, Chimchar, Turtwig, and Oshawott are basic Pokemon that I just cannot like. The same was true for Treecko at first, but he grew on me.

I do find all of their final forms nothing short of amazing and I do like a lot of basic forms (namely Treecko, Torchic, Piplup and Snivy,) but I can't say I like their entire lines like I do the Kanto and Johto ones.

With that said, I acknowledge that there's nothing wrong with any of their designs and Game Freak is in no way losing its edge. It's all about personal preference, which is why I don't like to base my opinions solely on design.

My favorite Starters though, are Bulbasaur, Chikorita, Squirtle, Totodile and Torchic.

PS: Charmander sucks. :P

My favs are Squirtle, Cyndaquil, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar and Oshawott. Snivy sucks major Miltank utters. I have nothing for or against The lizard on Fire though.

Torterra and Empoleon all the way.
I was incredibly disappointed with the starters in Black and White. I prefer dual types and two out of three remain single-typed all the way. Then the ONE who is dual-typed is fucking Fire/Fighting AGAIN? I was, and remain angry about this. Samurott and Serperior could easily have been done with a dual type and a more interesting basis. The Generation V starters excited me at first but were ruined later. They are really one of my few disappointments of Generation V, and a big one at that.

Blaziken and Empoleon.

One is a kung fu chicken and the other is a penguin Napolean. I don't know how it gets any better than that.

Honestly I just wish the new starters had better typing. Fire/fighting is annoying the third time in a row and personally I think the fighting secondary type should have gone to samurrot.

my fav starters are squirtle (will always b my overall fav starter!!!), torchic, treecko, piplup, chickorita and oshawott !!!
basically the really adorable ones with awesome evolutions!!!

My favorite starters were Kanto and Hoenn. With Treecko from Hoenn being my favorite and Bulbasaur coming in second.

Sinnoh was good, Johto was "meh". But Unova flat out sucked. When I got the game, I sat there wondering for quite a while to choose, because none of them were any good. In the end I chose Tepig and traded that piece of bacon away as soon as I got the chance.

Cyndaquil had been the best for me. Treeko was also excellent for his epic speed. But I wish Snivy had a better movepool, and Samurott SHOULD'VE been Water-Fighting... like someone said, it is based on a samurai...
