February 2012 "Pocket Monsters Reburst" Review Thread

Hey, kiddies. Guess what? It's Wednesday (in Japan). And it's the first of the new month. That means new thread time.

Since BHS ended in a tie (I think), Ryouga's got the money (why?), Hariru and Carola leave (Dammit!), and now it's time to go to Karuta's village to heal his dying family!

They better put on some masks.

Only one more month until ReBURST is one year old.

Yes, the battle ended in a double ring-out.

Ryouga's got the money (why?)

Originally, it was decided to split the prize money among all the contestants. They all started fighting over how much they should all get, so Hariru steps in and tells them to give it all to Ryouga. After all, he says, Ryouga's the one who got all their Burst Hearts back to them. Hariru tells them that if any of them have a problem with this, they'll have to fight him and take the money over his dead body. Seeing how there's no way in hell they'd be a match for him, they all decide to do things his way.

and now it's time to go to Karuta's village to heal his dying family!

Almost. They're going to stop by this huge city that's on the way first to buy the medicine they'll need.

A few other things:

- Fraud hasn't been seen since he sank into the water. Some GG grunts went in after him, but nobody knows where they ended up.
- Hariru and Carola are going to go on a journey to become strong enough to defeat Fraud.
- The blurb of text at the end of this chapter promises that next week will see the beginning of a new story arc and introduce a new character.

Interesting, they seem to be setting up for a new interesting arc. I'm actually kinda curious about Hariru in particular and when he'll appear again. Carola is ok I guess. I thought it was real righteous of Hariru to do such a thing. I like how his names means friend

Awww, that was nice of Haril. I'm sort of glad this arc ended, it's been going on for a long while. I'm excited what the city will hold for them.

Whenever it mentions that a new character is going to appear, everyone goes after the sleep-mask guy. Now I swear that guy has a Simisear burst; the sleepy face, neck ruffles, flame-y hair!!11one
Buuut, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Indian Boy, the Cowboy, or Goofy Sailor Man.

Apparently he's "Great Gavel's Number 1 Beautiful Noble", Rukamu.

So the next baddie is a flamboyant cross dresser. ...Fun.

Call me when sleep-mask guy comes up.

Wait, since the money is gone and Miruto is holding a vial, does that mean they got the medicine already? Wow. That's a pretty small thing for something they need to heal an entire village with.

You're not alone. Ryouga and the others laugh at his Burst as well.

Flameboyant Zuruggu Burst is fuguly and stupid, but it certainly is unique the battle looks interesting. And it's official Miruto and Yappi are useless. But, Hariru looks very cool, I still really really like the drawers style. And the fact they're going to useless that tiny thing to heal a whole village is weird, reminds me of Namu entering the tournament just to get water for his village.

I thought it was a given a long while ago that Milt and Yappy are useless (at the time being). I want to like Milt at least, but she really needs to throw her weight around. Also, the only time we saw her Mandibuzz out of its Pokeball was in a one-panel flashback, iirc. Correct me if I'm wrong, since I usually only see a few pages out of many. orz
Yappy is just annoying as heck.

Yeah, Miruto never lets her pokemon out of their Monster Balls, ever. It's a shame, really; maybe she wouldn't be so freakin' useless if she actually used the pokemon she supposedly owns.

Well, even if she could send her Pokemon out, it probably wouldn't be able to do much due to the whole Burst thing this manga uses.

What she should be learning is how to use Burst. I'd like more fights for someone other than Ryouga.

I had asked a while ago if Burst users where more powerful than their Pokemon counterpart. At this point, we still don't know but maybe they are. I do hope Milt/Miruto gets a Burst heart sometime along the line, but probably not for a while unfortunately. The plot probabaly needs a "damsel-in-distress" character for a bit longer, and god knows is not going to be only Yappy every time. (And who knows if the author actually forgot she had a Mandibuzz. At this point in time, it might as well be the "dusty skeleton vulture".)

I agree, I like to see more Burst fights that don't necessarily have Ryouga in them. Now that we have Karuto (Accelgor kid), at least we can see him fight as well, so now only half of the main group is useless, compared to 2/3s before.

This week, on One Piece....wait, I already did that joke before, but with Naruto.

It's Karuta vs Rukamu! (He didn't last long, did he?)

Rukamu displays two new techniques this chapter,

The first is "Megaton Headbutt" (written as メガトン頭突, Megaton Head Thrust, pronounced as メガトンヘッドバット, Megaton Headbutt)

And the second is Rubbery Cushion (written as 高反発座布団, Highly Resilient Zabuton, pronounced as ゴムゴムクッション, Gomu Gomu Cushion. Gomu Gomu means Rubber). At least, that's what I think they say. It's 5 AM at the time of this post, and trying to figure out the Kanji is a strain on my eyeballs.

Yeah, that's what I've been wondering too. Why exactly does he know about that nickname? He doesn't seem to be a ninja, or from the village at all.

Could something have happened?

Also, Pokemon ReBURST volume 4 to be released on April 18th.

Uh, this week on ReBURST, we get some depressing news...

For some reason, the place where I get these images from posted these much smaller than usual pics.

Maybe @Dogasu can explain the situation once he gets the chapter?

K-Karuta's mom is just sleeping...right?

They aren't going for the sad route, right?

So the chapter starts off with a flashback to Karuta remembering how his father was the leader of the village. He was an Agilder Burst Warrior. One day, a group of people (Miruto wonders if it was GG?) went after some pokemon in the area. Karuta's dad fought them off but ended up dying from the injuries he sustained in battle. After that, Karuta was appointed the head of the village and presumably given his father's Burst Heart.

Later, when everyone got sick, Karuta decided to leave to find a cure. His mother was opposed to this, however, saying that he doesn't have enough power to protect the village. He pushes pack, so his mother tells him that she will disown him and make sure he's not allowed back into the village if he disobeys her. Karuta decides to go anyway.

So anyway, that's why Karuta didn't want to go into the village. Ryouga throws him into the center of town so he can deliver the medicine to everyone. After he finishes healing everyone, he goes home and finds out from his cousin that his mother died earlier that morning.

Ho-holy crap what a mood-whiplash. One chapter they were kicking the stuffing out of this goofy-looking Scraggy Burst Warrior, and right after we get a chapter like that. ;_; Poor Karuta...

No wonder Karuta lost Burst Heart Survival...still, I feel sorry for that guy...losing both parents like that...still, those problems should make him stronger...maybe in the future...
