A massive city filled with sections that were like different worlds compared to each other. A place where one could go from a high-tech industrial section to farmlands and towns that have gone away with all technology. And a place where some individuals were born with magic. Such a place would be Fell.

The ones born with strange powers are usually female (though a few males have been reported) and are referred to as a “magical girl.” Though the public knows about them, their numbers are uncertain as they appear to be normal humans. Some say Fell would be better off without them, while others think they’re much needed as some of the magical girls use their powers for good, while others are indifferent but think the crime fighting can get a bit out of hand.

Which was something Clair was about to find out.

The young woman walked on the sidewalk in a more modern section. The sun occasionally broke through the cloudy sky only to be covered once more. The puddles of yesterdays rain still remained, and though it was cloudy now the day promised to be sunny in the evening. A car drove by, sending a large splash in Clair’s direction. She quickly stepped to the side as she heard gasps of dismay from the few passing people. Looking down at herself and seeing that not a drop of water had gotten on her she began to walk again… only to hear something going on at a nearby building.

"What part of 'get down on the ground' do you not get, missy!?" A brutish-looking man with a mask snarled. He and three others like him were being confronted by a young girl.

"I refuse to obey criminals!" the girl boasted. This was Agera, a young and energetic magical girl. For a while now, she has been trying to help out the city of Fell by fighting crime.

"What are you high on, talking like that?" the goon muttered.

"Ha! I'm high on a delightful drug...a drug called justice!" Agera replied, "And today, you get to experience the side effects: pain and punishment! Take this!" By thrusting her arms forward, she cast a small green fireball which knocked the goon back on his rump.

The green fireball caught Clair's attention. A magical girl? One of those crime fighting ones it looks like. She should be able to handle this on her own. Might be more of them though... Guess I better stick around to make sure things don''t get too bad.

"Alright boys, get her!" The lead mook growled. The other three charged at her.

"Come at me, bros!' Agera boasted, before blasting two of them in rapid succession as the third still approached. "And now for the finisher!" She clenched her right hand into a fist as it became cloaked in a green flame.

"Bright...Burning...Knuckle!"

She launched a punch at the oncoming mook, and her fist struck his chest...only for the flames to go out. The mook simply stared at the fist which was now merely pushing against his chest.

"...uh oh...not again," Agera whimpered before the thug socked her, knocking her back a few feet.

Why does it always fizzle out when I need it most!? she thought, honestly scared as the thugs approached her. But none of them (including Agera herself) noticed that her peridot necklace had begun to glow faintly.

Clair let out a soft sigh and touched her winged rose gemstone at her throat. Glowing rose petals covered her from toes to torso as her became almost black with strong red highlights. The petals began to slower scatter away from her body, turning her white hoodie into a high collared black halter top. Her gray cargo shorts were replaced with a black shirt with a red trim while her shoes became a pair of knee-high black boots with several buckles. As she walked towards Agera and the thugs more petals clustered around her head and hand, forming a red hooded cloak and scythe.

"Get lost," she growled at the thugs as she suddenly appeared in front of Agera in a flurry of rose petals, her scythe posed to strike. Her weapon was very ornate, looking like a sleeping dragon of silver scales and sharp, red tail. A very sharp tail.

Whoa, another magical girl! Agera thought as Clair stepped in. But Clair wasn't the only one who could transform, as Agera was now finding out. She noticed her star-shaped gemstone glowing, and grabbed it with her hand. "What the...?"

Suddenly, she became cloaked in green light. As Agera held the gemstone tightly in her fist, the gemstone formed a gauntlet on her left hand, embedding itself in the back of the gauntlet's hand. Simultaneously, another gauntlet formed on her right hand. The cloak of light began to take form on her body; a peridot-colored short-sleeve shirt with an exposed midriff, black short-shorts, and black boots. Her eyes turned a deep emerald, and her hair became a peridot color.

"Whoa..." she said, looking at her new gauntlets...before smirking, taking a fighting stance, and looking up at the thugs.

"What the...so these are the fabled magical girls!" one of the mooks said.

"They're kinda hot," said another, before the third one elbowed him in the gut.

"Uhhh....right. Well...we'll listen to you guys, but not because we want to," the lead thug said, "Only because well...we have to! Let's get outta here, boys!" The four of them ran out the door...and right into a police blockade. They were promptly arrested.

Clair's scythe began gradually turning into rose petals which dissolved in the air. With one final look at Agera she turned and walked off, her red cloak flapping gently behind her.

She doesn't seem like the talkative type, Agera thought, But I've never met another magical girl before.

"Hey, wait!" she called as she started to jog after Clair. "Wait up, please!"

"You're really not one for caution, are you?" Clair said as she stopped and turned to Agera. "What do you want?"

"Well, you just saved me from those guys...I think," Agera said, "So I wanted to thank you. Plus, you're a magical girl. I've never met another one before..."

"I hardly did anything, so don't thank me," Clair said. "Most magical girls prefer to keep a low profile... because of people like them," she nodded towards a group of three standing on the other side of the road whispering to each other and glaring at her and Agera.

"Eek!" Agera yelped. As if her gem understood her concern, it returned her to her normal appearance in a but a second or two.

"What do you think they want?" she asked, as she just then noticed her change in appearance, "...whoa."

"Something we don't want to be a part of," Clair said. As the group began to approach them she took Agera by the hand and walked away, dragging the other girl with her. Rose petals fell from Clair's cloak and suddenly everything rushed by them in a blur.

"Sorry about that," Clair said as she let of Agera's hand. They now stood in a rather empty park quite a few miles away from where they originally were.

"Woooow," Agera said as she attempted to process what just happened, "Was that like, hyperspeed or something?"

"Speed enhancement," Clair said as she touched her gemstone, her clothes sending a flurry of petals as they returned to normal.

"Basically I run fast."

"Cooool~!" Agera smiled, "Which reminds me...when I transformed back there, that was the first time I've ever done it."

"I see. Good thing it happened when it did," Clair paused for a moment. "I take it you can use your power outside your transformation."

"Well, some of it..." Agera said, looking down, "I can do a few basic things, but the more complicated spells...well, they don't have a 100% success rate. As you may or may not have saw earlier."

"Better than nothing. I have to transform to use my powers. Made my first time quite the shock."

"Yeah, I ... I'm not sure why I transformed when I did. Same with when my transformation wore off. Do you think my gemstone can feel my emotions...?"
