Seeing all this threads about female professors and champions, I found it weird that no one wants a female rival, the closest they got were May, apart from that all the rivals are male.

I can't be the only one wanting bitch rival?

I thought the blonde girl in the town screenshot was your rival...

It'd be an interesting change to have a female rival. If the female characters can always have a male rival, I'd say it'd work the other way around too.

Just as long as they're not making a rival that sucks like in the third generation. The rivals of RSE were handled so badly: they didn't fight you that often and didn't even fully evolve their starters. But IMO, the thing I hated the most about those rivals was that you couldn't name them at all! They were always just May/Brendan. It's a tradition that you get to name the rivals yourself and I can't fathom why didn't they allow it for us in RSE. It wouldn't have been so hard for them to give us the "name your rival" screen at some point near the start, could it? Birch could have said "This is my son/daughter, his/her name is..." at the start of the game and you could have written the name at that point or you could have named them when the rival was introducing themselves. Obviously, Game Freak was still experimenting with the concept of having the other gender character be part of the story but they couldn't quite flesh out the character, resulting in the weakest rival in the series.

If we're gonna get a female rival, I hope she's the rival for both genders. I vastly prefer having one rival compared to two different ones that depend on the gender. And featuring a female rival would be the easiest way to make the new rival stand out from the others.

May/Brendan were never the real rivals. They were sort of pseudo-rivals. The real rival was Wally as a twist who has changed from a sick and weak boy to an excellent trainer.

No, she was a Gym Leader, they are all bitches/Lars Monsen about his bitches.

No, he wasn't! The true rival's always the one that gets the starter that's strong against the starter you chose. You meet the rival near the beginning and they're always your first trainer battle in the game. The rival keeps recurring throughout the game. All these criteria fit May/Brendan. Even though they stood out as the worst handled rivals, they were the ones who were supposed to be your true rivals in those games. I don't know why people keep bringing up the Wally BS all the time. First of all, you only battled him twice and the first battle was more like a joke battle, since he had only one weak Pokémon. Then he only appeared near the League, which was near at the end of the game and had one battle with you.

And the rivals tradionally have their own battle themes, except for the first games when they hadn't made up that concept yet (though your rival has a unique theme when he's the champ). Wally had a regular battle theme but Brendan/May had their unique battle theme. Though they lacked a couple of things the rivals traditionally have (the option to name them and the fact their titles weren't "Rival" but "Pokémon Trainer") and Game Freak kinda screwed them up, it's still obvious May and Brendan were supposed to be the rival of RSE. Because of that, I refuse to believe the Wally theory. He just doesn't fit the rival mold at all, due to his lack of time on-screen. Even the evil team leaders could be called better rivals than him, since they have the same amount of battles as Wally does in Ruby and Sapphire.

If you were from where I'm from (the Pacific Northwest) that would be a badass reference. But because you are Norse (and not Toki Wartooth) it's just a goofy reference.

I'm tired of pseudo-rival this and not rival that. Why can't they both be rivals? They were both your rivals but never at the same time. Brendan/May fits the criteria of choosing a starter that weakens yours, battles continuously, and has their own battle theme. Wally fits the criteria of fully evolving his starter, battling you right before the Elite Four, and being able to battle him again. However, they are both "pseudos" to that Brendan/May give up and help you as the opposite gender trainer, and Wally acts as the capture tutorial (similar to Dawn/Lucas & Lyra/Ethan). THEY'RE BOTH RIVALS.

Anyways, back on topic, I think it would be nice to have a female rival. But one that's not afraid to push you around. It would be nice break from the 2:1 guy to girl ratio of the players and rivals.

A female rival would be nice! She could be a bipolar tsundere punk. Her "tsun tsun" could be like Silver, and her "dere dere" like Dawn/Lucas, or maybe Ethan/Lyra.

wut?

Personally, I can handle a dick guy more than I can handle a bitch lady. I guess it's sexist, but there you go.

You didn't get enough bitch from Clair?

Dude, she wasn't that bad.

A female rival would be nice... I'm not sick of male rivals or anything but it would make a nice change.

Karen is the biggest bitch out there guys.

But yeah, bitches are great. We need bitches. Also, Ash needs a female rival. A true main female rival.

I like the idea of a female rival in the anime, if for no other reason than to stop the seemingly endlessly growing fleet of Ships floating along the Poke-sea. :D

How would that solve anything? Ships would still be made.

BTW, I agree. Female rival!
