This is the sister of this thread and it pits the two remaining Water Starters against each other.

Feraligatr and Empoleon are two very interesting Starters to compare. Both are primarily offensive Pokemon. Both have bad speed stats, both have good defenses (Feraligatr's is physical whereas Empoleon's is special) and both thrive on the offensive sides of the scale.

Feraligatr is a fearsome physical attacker with a fantastic physical attack stat and access to Swords Dance (to double it), Agility (for it's mediocre speed) and Dragon Dance (a compromise). Offensive moves of note include Waterfall, Earthquake, Ice Punch and more than anything, Aqua Jet.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, we have Empoleon. A powerful special attacker with a great Sp. Atk stat, access to Agility (for it's terrible speed), Grass Knot, Ice Beam and Surf/Hydro Pump.

In a battle, Feraligatr can hurt Empoleon with non STAB Earthquakes but Empoleon can hurt Feraligatr with non STAB Grass Knots, so it's pretty even.

Physical offense vs Special offense. Much like Meganium and Sceptile, these guys are a very good study in oppposites.

I honestly don't know which one to choose here. I technically like Empoleon slightly more than Feraligatr but Feraligatr was my first Pokemon ever, which makes this a tough one. I do like Totodile and Croconaw more than Piplup and Prinplup though. I think I'm going to choose the Johto Starter simply out of loyalty for my first Pokemon, but I don't really have a favorite between these two.

I like both fairly equally, but Empoleon pulls ahead the slightest bit due to it's type. It resists nearly every type, making it a very useful tank.

I prefer Empoleon. It has good stats in it's specials and it is just plain better looking imo.

Slightly Empoleon. Everything's better with penguins even though I love crocodiles a lot.

Depends. Empoleon has access to Grass Knot while Feraligatr can set up Swords Dance+ Earthquake/Superpower.

I'd have to say Feraligatr. Super Effective EQ hurts, even without STAB. It's also slightly faster, so it would get the first hit in.

Not even a hard choice. I'm in love with Feraligatr, and I always have been since the old GSC days. Water/Steel may be nice with the resists, but the way I look at it (in a non-competitive way) is that it adds more common weaknesses than takes away. Random Fighting and Ground type moves are a strange weakness for a water type, and something I don't care for. On top of that, Feraligatr looks 100% better than Empoleon does, so +1 for Feraligatr.

Again, another tough one.

I prefer Feraligatr for its looks but Empoleon is the batter battler. I not sure who would win a battle between them.

Empoleon! It's my favorite water starter and second favorite starter overall. :-D

I think Empoleon has the better movepool and has a better appearance. Plus, I'm more of a special attacker than a physical attacker.

Feraligatr for its better speed and stat upping moves (Swords Dance turns it into a Bulldozer, Agility makes it a Ninja, and Dragon Dance operates both sides of the Sweeper spectrum). I also have a soft spot for dragons/Reptiles.

Empoleon is better for me. I don't like Feraligatr at all, it's very ugly and scary. Empoleon has also better typing

Feraligatr to me, resembles Charizard. They kinda look the same to me =)) I love how ferocious and always ready to eat it looks. Feraligtr can pawn Empoleon with earthquake due to Emp's x2 ground weakness. But I love Empoleon. Piplup is my most favorite starter due to it's extreme cuteness and being a "penguin". I'm gonna be bias in here, I choose Empoleon =)) It's not a bad choice either for it has more uses than Feraligatr.

Even though every fiber of my body says Feraligatr, I have to say Empoleon. Sure Feraligatr has access to many powerful dragon moves and is pretty handy in OU battles, Empoleon is way better - due to its humongous set of resistances and immunity to toxic.
