This week's episode of Pokémon Horizons made me giddy for two reasons: the twist, and confirmation of a fan theory I’ve had for a while. It’s seriously a good feeling when you watch an episode and it subverts all of your expectations. This is why I enjoyed this episode a lot.

The Rising Volt Tacklers pursue Entei, finally meeting the elusive beast and challenging it to a battle. First off, I really liked the stuff that transpired before the fight, like how the volcanic island formed from underground. Though, I know it happens in real life, but I do wonder how the heck lava can be formed from under salt water. I’m no earth scientist, but if you know the answer, please let me know! Second, I loved the fight. Liko, Roy, Dot AND Friede all joined in the fight. I think this is the first time we've see these four participate in a major fight together. They all do their best. While no one gets knocked out from either side, it was cool seeing that Entei’s reputation as a Legendary Pokémon has been kept, given that the anime, whether it be this one or past series, seems to like to depower legendaries to fit the narrative. Third, I love the twist that the Entei in front of them isn’t actually Lucius's! I had been worried that they would be meeting Entei a bit too soon as they just got Kleavor, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case and that it was just a wild one. To be honest, that twist did get to me, because I hadn’t expected it. Fans had speculated that Lucius’s Entei could be Gouging Fire and that does seem to be the case as Briar showed a picture of it in her notes. This would mean that the Entei from the flashbacks was just a normal Entei, either to avoid major spoilers, or that Rystal, the perspective character from the flashback, had assumed it to be a normal Entei, hence why it looked like that.

The fan theory I’ve had for a while was that Crave is Amethio’s father and I was right! I sort of guessed their connection because Amethio’s black hair is the same shade of black as Crave’s, and that Crave talked about a higher-up back in Episode 54 when it comes to the Laquium, I wonder if Amethio’s family lore will be explored more later on, because Crave does not look like Gibeon at all. It makes me wonder if Crave is related to Gibeon by marriage, whether he got married to Gibeon’s daughter or granddaughter. Then, there’s Spinel whom Crave is familiar with. This means that Spinel, is or was, an Exceed worker. Also, how does Spinel know so much about Amethio's family? I’m super curious about the role the Explorers will play in the future.

I wonder if some people are aware that Area Zero is NOT Laqua. They probably have some similarities, but Laqua is stated to be in a place far away from Paldea. Though, I am excited to see what Area Zero brings to the story, with Paradox Pokémon roaming around and what not. What are your thoughts on the episode?
