Apparently, it's been leaked that Square-Enix is working on a DS remake of Final Fantasy IV that will be similar in style to the Final Fantasy III DS remake.

It'd be nice if Square-Enix would stop with the whole remake fad they're attached to, but if they actually are going through with this, then at least they're doing it with a quality game like FF4.

Squenix has the technology, they've got the fanboys, and they've got the games in their catalog. All they have to do to make said fanboys salivate is put a coat of shiny DS paint on the games and watch the money roll in.

That said, I do wish they'd make a FF for the DS that wasn't a remake or a Playstation spinoff (much as I'm looking forward to Revenant Wings- it looks awesome).

The PSP remake of the first Final Fantasy game that was originally from the NES isn't that bad. It is kinda a cross between the GBA and the PSOne remakes because it has the PSOne intro movies, the GBA intro movies, and the formerly GBA Exclusive stuff, plus clearer graphics. I have the Japanese import version that has a setting to play the game in English.

You have to wonder what Square Enix is thinking. Final Fantasy IV Advance was just released a couple years ago. Why are they making a DS remake so soon?

I don't remember reading where exactly , but I heard that Square's executive is following more of the remake model as well as exploring all of their alternate franchises for now.

I think it may have something to do with their future bottom line of business. They see there is money in remakes, so they take advantage of people's nostalgia and recreate their golden years. In the end they make a ton of money for little effort.

I think that since the console wars are getting really heated right now, Square Enix is trying to play it safe by making only remakes for the GBA/DS. With the PS3's success (at the very most currently) up in the air, they probably don't want to make any console games until the leader of the "war" is clear. In my opinion, it would be nice if Square Enix made a Final Fantasy game for the Wii. You don't need the most powerful console in order to make a good game, which Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles proved. For a game that was the first Final Fantasy game to use a real-time system instead of a turn-based system and to use multiplayer features, it did quite well, so I'm hoping for Square Enix to make a wonderful game for the Wii. Only time will tell.

Cyrstal Chronicles was a big disappointing mess to me. I hope those type of games aren't the only Final Fantasy games we'll see on the Wii.

Anyway, an official website is up, and apparently the game's going to have a vocal song entitled Ai no Teema ("The Theme of Love"). Square-Enix will be accepting demo tapes from aspiring singers who want to perform the song for the game between June 1st and July 31st, and a list of rules are listed on the site.

The site says they'll be accepting entries from both males and females, but I really don't see them letting a guy sing the theme song to a Final Fantasy game.

Well, considering that Square Enix just announced Chocobo Dungeon for the Wii, it seems like crappy spin-offs are the only Final Fantasy games Nintendo will be getting.

You'd think that after Nintendo dominates the top 22(?) sales spots of videogames in Japan, Square Enix would AT LEAST hastily put together an announcement for a game that DOESN'T suck for the Wii.

Well, they'll have Dragon Quest Swor-

Oh wait...you said didn't suck...

The vocal songs from the last 2 PSOne Final Fantasy games, Eyes On Me and Melodies of Life, were pretty good. I had just gotten to the part in Final Fantasy XII where the vocal theme song for the game, Kiss Me Goodbye by Angela Aki, was the other day. 1000 Words and Real Emotion from Final Fantasy X-2 were the best video game rock/pop songs ever. Nobuo Uematsu is composing the theme song for the next Smash Brothers game for the Wii. I have the MP3s of all the vocal songs from the PSOne and PS2 games plus the MP3 for the vocal song from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronoicles for the GameCube.

I guess we can expect incredible music scores in Super Smash Brothers: Brawl then. :p Nobuo Uematsu is an excellent music composer.

So, are we to assume that V and VI will follow? And if they will, will they have a contest for a vocal version of Aria de Mezzo Caraterre or The Wanderer of Time (a vocal version of Terra's theme) (even though vocal versions exist of both these songs)? Because I'd love to try my hand at recording the Aria.

Probably. And after that, they'll probably go back and remake I and II for the DS.

And after that, they'll probably remake IV, V, and VI again for Nintendo's next generation handheld.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Just an off-topic question, could Square Enix possibly remake FFVII and others after that for a Nintendo console, or are they completely restricted to Sony only?

They may. FFVII could go on a DS cart with a graphic upgrade (as in better-looking polygons) and added content, but it would lose the vast majority of the FMV's. With that said, a remake of a game that apparently every fanboy on the planet wants on a system that everyone already has would make a lot more sense than putting it on the PSP.

Then again, the PSP could use a killer app like FFVII, so you know they'll be fighting to have it appear on their system instead.

Side note: Apparently, Square-Enix wanted to make that FFIII remake for the PSP, but Nintendo talked them into putting it on the DS instead.

lol Better looking porygons. Meh, the loss of FMVs isn't that big a deal, and I've always wanted to play FFVII to see what the hype was all about (I don't own a Sony console, so all I have to go by is word of mouth and fingers). The only Final Fantasy game that I've played on a Sony console is Final Fantasy X, and the graphics didn't seem so out of this world that the Wii couldn't handle it, but I'm no specs expert, so meh. :p

You mean cart as in singular, correct? Would it be possible to fit the game WITH FMV's on two carts? As iirc, Dragon Quest IX is going to be the first multi-cartridge game EVER.

I want a FFIX remake, best game of the series IMO.

FFVII is the most overrated game I've ever seen...do we really need a portable remake?

Whether or not we need one isn't the question. It's a question of "can Square-Enix make a shitload of money by releasing it?"

The answer is yes. Very yes.
