Apparently it went on sale yesterday in Japan. I didn't expect it out so fast.

Official Site (Japanese)

New features include a new dungeon where you have to break off into three parties to face off against three different dragons (Red Dragon, Blue Dragon, and Yellow Dragon). You'll also have the chance to earn two new summons: Gilgamesh (from FFV) and Leviathan.

Any word of a release date for the US?

FFV came out two months ago in Japan.

I know they're just ports, but STILL.

I've heard rumors that players will be able to unlock Leo and Emperor Ghestal as permanent party members.

I wonder how that will happen
Seeing as they die.

They DO have Phoenix to revive them, but you know thing with cut-scenes and hero deaths. *coughAeriscough*

Awesome ^^

Now I'm ashamed of myself for not keeping closer watch on this game. Are the dungeon and new espers really the only changes? I was hoping they'd extend Shadow's dream-plot and actually conclude it =/

Sounds more like wishful thinking to me, but it would've been neat if they'd added an extra character or two. Neat, but not necessary. That game already has more than enough.

So, hopes for the English release, anyone?

I hope they do a retranslation, but keep some of the things from the Woosely translation. Especially about Leo--according to the people at FFOnline, Japanese Leo is very hostile towards Kefka, wheras in English he treats him with respect. I think it adds a lot to Leo's character that way.

What amazes me is that big companies are STILL releasing GBA games. Although I think an American release is inevitable.

...Think there's any chance, then, of an FFVII port on the DS? That would pretty much pwn.

FFVII could all fit on a DS cart, but they'd have to axe the FMV's in order to have enough space to hold all the game data.

News about the English version from the newest Nintendo Power:

Nintendo Power said:
And even though the SNES original boasted a solid translation, the script has been reworked, too; fans will notice new names for some spells, enemies, and items, plus enhanced dialogue and - don't freak out, hard-core gamers - new lyrics in the opera scene

All the characters appear to keep their English names...so Tina is still being called Terra, Stragus is still Strago, etc.

There's no word if any of the things that were censored in the SNES release (aka Pub -> Cafe) will still be censored in the GBA version.

The spell names in FF6 were horrid :(

Well, if I was in charge, I'd pick and choose from both versions. As I said before, I'd keep Leo like he was in the previous translation, but I'd add Relm's spicier language, and Edgar's line about "it would be criminal"...things like that.

I wonder why they're retranslating the opera. More accurate? To flow better with the music?

Ehhh....do we really need another FFVII game? I'd rather have a FFIX first, that game was my favorite.

Oh; that's good. So it'll be comparable to the type of conversion in the other SNES ports (Mario USA, Yoshi's Island)?

FF6A is out in America tomorrow.

Apparently the promise of the changed script is 100% true. (I heard they changed even changed Kefka's famous 'Son of a Submariner' line.)

Could this be the FF equivalent of the 4Kids-PUSA controversy?

...Probably not.

Apparently the changed line is "Son of a sandworm"

...On the one hand, it's still delightfully random, but on the other hand, why mess with what you know works?
