A few hours ago in a press conference today, Hiroshi Iwado, spokesperson for Nintendo revealed that Nintendo of Japan has no further plans for the Pokemon franchise and will likely discontinue the Anime after Best Wishes and the games soon after. This has caused uproar amongst Japanese fans on 2ch and is yet to reach the ears of the western world. I and my team got the exclusive scoop on this, and an interview with Satoshi Tajiri and Miyamoto on the future of the franchise and Ken Sugimori's untimely demise.

During our interview, Miyamoto, head of public relations and integral factor in development confided that when the franchise does come to an end, there will be a repeatable worldwide Wi-Fi called "Gotta catch 'em all for the last time" which will get you a random pokemon each time you do it.

Since this is very recent and I am typing this from our press headquarters in Tokyo, news of this may not have leaked on the internet except on 2ch where you may find information concerning this topic. Most of it is rage though, so I don't recommend going there even if you are versed in Japanese.

On an even more morbid note, as some of you may or may not have heard, head Pokemon artist Ken Sugimori has passed away, in an accident involving a hired cab and a drunk driver. He was declared brought dead to the hospital, with a fatal injury to the chest. R.I.P Ken, our condolences are with you. His untimely demise was partially the reason Satoshi Tajiri decided to discontinue Pocket Monsters at a shareholders' meeting. After 5th generation, there is not much hope for our favorite series.

This is a crushing blow to Pokefans everywhere. As I am a Pokemon fan first and a reporter second, I am unhappy to see Pokemon go this way. For those of you who want to view the interview, I shall post it here when I get enough replies, since it is an exclusive scoop I have to fill in release contracts and the ilk.

Bulbagarden seemed like an appropriate place to post this, due to the amount of fans here.

Well, like Q said in the finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "All good things must come to an end." It may be upsetting, but it's inevitable.

Frankly, I'm surprised the franchise has lasted this long. After all, there's only so many times you can reuse the same basic plotline before people get tired of it, and here, I'm talking about both the games and the anime. Especially the anime. Having Ash travel around, winning the league badges one at a time, battling the region's villains, entering the league tournament but falling short each time...it's like the Aerosmith song, "Same Old Song and Dance." Actually, the Powers That Be had several opportunities to change the pattern and missed them. For instance, they could have had Ash win the tourney, and then in the next region, he could have supervised another rookie trainer's league challenge. Then again, if this is Ash's last league tour, maybe he'll finally win the championship. I want to see him go out with a bang.

Rest in peace, Sugimori.

UPDATE: Fumiko Inudo, the commentator for Pokemon Sunday has confirmed that Pokemon might not continue after generation 5. As of now, the facts are absolute.

@DracoMan: I know how you feel. I too, had wondered how the series would end countless times before but it will be interesting to see how the series will end with a bang. Perhaps Ash will capture a legendary? Maybe, somehow Ash's dream of becoming a Pokemon Master will come true?

On that topic, it's usually best they come to an end when they're still good than what's happened to Star Trek in recent years. Only thing worse than seeing a franchise end is seeing it languish in mediocrity forever.

On the other hand, Nintendo is absolutely loathe to let go of a major cash cow. Even when their sales tank, they keep plugging away with basically the same game ("But now you have a boat"). I don't see it staying over for long. They'll revive it in some form more times than Jean Gray by the time they finally put it to rest.

Pokemon, ending... i need a tissue. How could Pokemon end? I know all GOOD things must come to an end but Pokemon wasn't good.... it was AWESOME. And Ken Sugimori?, He was my artist idol! Ever since iwas four and i used to watch the anime, i wondered who drew the pokemon because they were obviously good. after i discovered Bulbapedia, i found out Ken sugimori did them. He was my idol... Pokemon is a great franchise, no doubt, but it's like they say, "if you love something, let it go. if it comes back it is yours. only difference is it doesn't seem like Pokemon's coming. Damn, I'm going to miss Turtwig and all my other favorite pokemon. *moans*

i know... if pokemon ends... WE continue it. Come on! We gotta! We could write a letter to nintendo or something! i dunno... god... i only make up things i know arnt happening when smthin bad happens. last time i did this, my rabbit died.

Yeah, we should make some kind of petition and show it to The Big N! I mean the only time THAT won't work is when it has to do something with EarthBound or MOTHER 3...

Wait a minute- I just checked Bulbapedia, it says Ken Sugimori is alive and well! Also, if it's in Japan, it's going to get here by tomorrow. If this 'interview' of yours doesn't phase any other fansite by tomorrow, I demand a refund!

This is extremely recent, idiot.

Yeah. Bulbagarden is a crevice in cyberspace (no offence to Bulbapedia :p). In ENGLISH. The odds that a JAPANESE REPORTER IN TOKYO would find this fansite and post this "EXCLUSIVE SCOOP" is a loud of bullcrap. Gtfo, plz.

When did I say I am japanese? I'm merely posted in japan. You are an idiot and deserve to be purged off the face of the earth.

Considering your intellectual deficiency and the fact that your existence is a drain on humanity itself, then yes, death threats.

Pokefans, my message is true. If you are going to let a bunch of trolls shy you away from the truth, it is your decision to make.

ALL OF YOU! STAY CALM! STOP SHOUTING AT EACH OTHER!

So... lets get this streight. if it doesnt say anything about it by next week then it is still going.
