My friend messaged this to me lately.

Good news for everyone pissed off at ragequitters. In BW2, the server finally recognises who disconnects in a battle and places a ban on those who turn off the power. Judging from what I've seen, it doesn't seem to punish unintentional disconnects. I've got an error while playing on RMs yesterday and I didn't receive a ban. I might be wrong though (can't read Japanese to save my life).

Furthermore, the player receives 1 Battle Point for every battle he/she does on Random Match-up (yes even if you lose you receive BP), which further discourages players from disconnecting.

I've been playing RMs in Black 2 for a while now and the number of disconnects has dropped significantly.

There remain some unanswered questions though:

1. Do Black / White players also receive a ban?
2. How many battles do you have to interrupt in order to be banned?
3. How long does the ban last?

I think this was something revealed awhile back, though at the time it was vague and it was only "disconnects"

Do you get a win recorded if your opponent ragequits? That is what has always bugged me most.

Depends on when the opp disconnects I think. I've got one player DC on me in the middle of the match and I didn't get neither the win nor BP. Another time a player DCed on me on the Win/Loss screen and I did get both the win on my card and BP.

Those were the only disconnects I've got so far though, so I can't tell much.

What if you disconnect because of poor wifi? (which has happened to me)

OP already mentioned this:

Sounds great! It'll be great for tournaments. My only tournament says I only won like 2 battles when I really won 6. As long as it doesn't ban me because of my crappy internet, I'm happy.

I've experienced less people ragequitting whenever I'm winning a match, but regardless, this is good news for those who experience it more often. I'm also now hyped that Random Matches will give you BPs for each battle.

does your battery on your DS dying during a match count as an unintentional disconnect?

Aaaaand wait for it to start banning droppers.

Because after all, pulling the router = disconnection too.

Just look at Halo Reach. Tons of ban threads flooded BNET forums, because they couldn't tell droppers from people pulling the cable.

I think the problem with the DS games is, it's actually impossible to tell who disconnected (I got kicked out of the last official Wi-Fi tournament because of this). It's definitely something that will need to be looked at with the 3DS thouh.

I think this is terrific. Now power-gaming rage-quitters who switch off their games rather than getting a loss on their records (oh, noes!) actually get punished for being the jerks that they are. (Some peoples' entire Wi-Fi strategies may be forced to change over this...) This may just be the coolest thing that came with the advent of BW2, since just about everything else so far is at least a little disappointing.
Granted, it does suck that if your connection craps out during a tournament or something you'll get dinged for it, but if you're doing something like that, shouldn't you have a solid connection in the first place?

I was happy to see this when it was announced. At first I would barely get any wins. Because of the disconnections I ended up 8-23. The ONLY REASON I started disconnecting was because I was tired of having the same record as the Charlotte Bobcats even though I won so many other games when the other people disconnected.

And before anyone yells at me, the idea of disconnecting would have never crossed my mind if there wasn't SO MANY ragequitters. 8-23? COME ON!

I wonder if this also works for battles against your friends using DS local wireless connection.

My problem with this is how exactly do they know you turned the power off? One of my friends and I have to try about 10 times to get a full battle in because her Wi-Fi is absolutely terrible. Then again, if this is only for RM and not any regular friend code battling, then it'll be fine. If they did it for everything though... that'll create a lot of issues.

Also, what happens to people who are in the middle of a battle but need to put their DS away? I've had to simply turn off my DS because I had to go somewhere while I was in the middle of a battle. I can guess there will be a lot of bans because of this.

You can always forfeit the battle when you get in a situation were you can't keep playing.

Fair point. I haven't used the RM in so long that I forgot about it. I stopped after getting matched against 7 consecutive Japanese players with all shiny Ubers in B/W. And this was only a few weeks after B/W came out in America, mind you, so it's been a loooong, time..

Doesn't b&w have a legitimacy detector? Also, this is great. I've had so many dcs. As soon as you set up and are about to get to the best part, winning, they quit.
