OK, so a friend of mine loaded Firefox for me, and ever since then, my AVG hasn't updated (it's supposed to update daily).

Another thing is that I have two icons on my desktop for internet--one Firefox and one IE. I click on the IE one and it brings up Firefox. In order to properly bring up IE, I have to go through the Start menu.

Also, last night, Firefox decided to update itself, and ever since, it changed my homepage to Firefox's homepage rather than my own of Yahoo Mail, plus it dumped all my bookmarks! How do I change this and get back my bookmarks?

Ok, wow.. I'll try and explain these the best I can.

Now for starters, the IE switching over to Firefox has me confused.
This could be a number of things from browser hijack to just a misdirected
path. Um what I may suggest is to just delete this icon for now and
create a new shortcut from the original IE exe like from the start menu
or in the IE file on your C: drive (if it's there).

As for the update, Firefox will do an automatic update every now and then
for new patches and such which is normal. But you want to change your homepage.
I don't know any permenant fix, but when it happens, go to:

-Tools
-Options
-General

There you will see the homepage option. I keep mine on firefox start page
for now since I usually use the Bookmarks toolbar for quick links to sites I
check on daily.

Assuming that you are trying to transfer bookmarks from another browser,
the bookmarks can be transfered going to: [in firefox]
-Bookmarks
-Manage Bookmarks
-File
-Import
And then click on the browser you want to import bookmarks from.

I think it will pull from the Favorites of IE.

As for the AVG, I'm not sure what that is so I can't help you there.
I hope this can help out a bit ^_^.

If your default browser is now Firefox, AVG may not work with it. Change your default browser back to IE.

The two like to fight for the love..lol
When I changed to Firefox, I had little intent to use IE again so I clicked the
option to change my default browser to Firefox (happens first time you use it)

If you have changed it to Firefox, then IE will ask that option every time you
use it now. However, I have since then turned off the option prompt box and
I'm not sure how to access it manually. If you've done the same thing (uncheck
the prompt) then I'm not sure, sorry.

In Firefox it's Tools -- Options -- General -- uncheck the Default Browser checkbox.

I see no reason why a change in default browser should affect the Internet Explorer icon (it should simply disappear) or a program that downloads updates (it would be directly linked to Internet Explorer if it was programmed to use it, even then, it's stupid to use a full web browser to download files).

Hmm, that's weird.

In the future, to change the default browser (and email program and a few others) you can go to Start > Set program access and defaults. Firefox's hompage can be set under Tools > Options > General.

My Firefox dumps the bookmarks alot too, I dunno why. You should save them regularly then.
