This is the first chapter of my first Pokémon fanfic. It is about Roark. I don't know how long it will be. All I know is that there will be OCs, it will follow the games, and it will have a good deal of cursing. It is rated PG-13. Enjoy what I have! If you want, search the title below on fanfiction.net. It's there as well.
SINNOH ON THE ROARK
Chapter 1
It was a bright sunny autumn day on Route 206. There were flowers in bloom all around. The sound of birds singing filled the air. Pokémon were playing all around. There were Altaria flying high in the sky like fast clouds. A colony of Combee gathered around the honey trees, collecting honey as they went along. And this day was great for taking walks.
One such person taking a walk was Roark, the Gym Leader of Oreburgh City. He decided to take a walk after it was announced that the mines were closed for the week. He looked around and heard all the sounds everywhere.
“I’m glad that they gave me the day off,” said Roark. “It’s too beautiful to be working in the mines.”
He walked along the pathways flanked by trees, looking at Cycling Road as he strolled and steering clear of the caves that were home to Pokémon. But that was nothing to worry about, for Roark had brought his own Pokémon to protect himself.
Eventually, Roark found a good seat by a stream, where he could eat the lunch that he had packed. He sat down on the ground and took out a silver bento box that was decorated with images of rocks, along with a soda bottle. Roark opened it up and saw the rice, cooked octopus, and cooked vegetables neatly arranged. He took a pair of chopsticks out and began to eat from it.
“Mmm!” said Roark. “This is so good! I’m glad I packed a lunch! It’s the perfect day to eat outside!”
After Roark was done with his lunch, he packed up and began to head home. He kept close to the cliffs so that few people would suspect him. He couldn’t help but to gaze at the immense mountain range, along with the towering Mt. Coronet looming above all the other mountains.
Then, suddenly, Roark heard a dash through the grass. The sound got louder as it went along. Roark heard yelling coming out of it. Eventually, he found himself in the presence of one of those obnoxious Youngsters. As usual, the kid was clad in a baseball cap and unsightly shorts that were too short. Roark was taken aback.
“What are you doing here?” asked Roark.
“I saw you there, mister,” said the Youngster, “and I knew that you were a trainer. So I decided to challenge you to a Pokémon battle!”
“I don’t think so,” said Roark. “I’m going home, and my mother will kill me if she finds me not being home on time. You are getting in the way of that, kid.”
“How old are you?” asked the Youngster. “I’m ten – the right age to start being a Trainer!”
“I’m sixteen,” said Roark. “That makes me much older than you. And do you even have a clue as to who I am?”
“No,” said the Youngster.
“I’m Roark, the Gym Leader of Oreburgh City.”
“Well, I’m Connor, and I’m the next big trainer! But you won’t be a challenge for me! Now, no more babbling and get this battle started! I choose you, Starly!” Connor threw a Poké Ball and out came a Starly.
Oh, brother, thought Roark. “Go, Geodude!” Roark threw a Poké Ball and sent out a Geodude. It looked like it would be an easy match for Roark. But if, by some misfortune, Connor did win, there was no way that Roark would give him a Gym Badge. The Gym wasn’t open today.
The battle was on, though.
“Starly, use Quick Attack!” said Connor. Starly flew swiftly at Geodude and attacked it. However, Geodude wasn’t hurt much because of its Rock type.
“Heh heh,” said Roark. “Geodude, use Rock Throw!” Geodude began hurling rocks at the Starly. It hurt Starly really badly, and the rocks made it faint. Connor sent the fainted Starly back to its Poké Ball.
“Oh, no!” said Connor. “You defeated my first Pokemon! But I have two more. Go, Starly!” He threw another Poké Ball and another Starly came out. Roark slapped his forehead in frustration. Not another one!
“Starly, use Quick Attack!” said Connor. The second Starly did the same thing that the first Starly did, and like before, Geodude only took a little damage.
“Geodude, use Rock Throw!” said Roark. Geodude easily took out the second Starly. It fainted and was sent back to its Poké Ball.
“Oh my gosh!” said Connor. “Now I have only one Pokemon left! Go, Starly!” He sent out a third Starly. Roark was quite embarrassed about this kid’s stupidity.
“Starly,” said Connor, “use Peck!” Starly flew over to Geodude and pecked at it. However, it did little damage.
“Ha ha ha!” laughed Roark. “Geodude, use Rock Throw!” Geodude threw rocks at the Starly, making it faint. It was sent back to its Poké Ball.
“Aaaugh!” said Connor. “You fainted all of my Pokémon with just a stupid Geodude! All right, you win! Take some money and buy yourself something useful so you can shut up!”
Roark was quite angry, and felt like smacking the Youngster across the face. He decided to lecture him about Pokémon and how to put them to good use.
“Listen here, kid,” said Roark. “You won’t get anywhere with a bunch of stupid Starly. Flying types don’t do very well against Rock types. You should have known that I specialize in Rock Pokémon. It doesn’t make sense that you should have all the same Pokémon. Starly is pretty weak and boring. Maybe evolving it would help? You should catch a variety of them. While I mostly have Rock Pokémon, they’re not all of the same species. I do admit I have trouble with Water and Grass Pokémon. Yet you’d never be able to beat me without a good team.” The lecture went on for half and hour, until Connor had had enough of it.
“Fuck you,” said Connor. “I’m outta here!” He ran away immediately.
“Gee, what a brat,” said Roark.
Roark began to make his way home. He kept close to the cliffs in the hopes that no Trainers would see him, but it was hard to not be seen. While Roark was walking, clouds began to move into the sky and take shape. Eventually, they covered the whole sky and let out rain.
“Damn!” said Roark. “It’s raining, and I didn’t bring a raincoat! I should make a run for it!”
Roark ran through the field back to Oreburgh City, but he slipped on a mudslide and fell down. When he made it to the bottom, he was not hurt bad, but his clothes were covered in mud. He was really frustrated now.
“How is my mother going to react to this?” he asked himself. “She’s going to be outraged!”
