First Look at Mickey Rourke as Whiplash in Iron Man 2 (Spoilers)

Whiplash sports a power pack on his chest that looks similar to the one used by Iron Man. "The technologies are definitely related, and that's part of the core theme of the film," says Favreau.

The character's alter ego, Ivan Vanko, is a Russian who, Favreau says, "has constructed his own version of a suit." Among the creative alterations: a pair of whips, powered by the suit's glowing chest piece. Whiplash "is going to light them up," says Rourke.

So...of ALLLLLLL of the Whiplash costumes and characters...the closest they could get is this one? Iron Man looked awesome in the first film. So did Iron Monger. And now we get...techno-S&M Whiplash?

Though I AM curious as to why he's at a race track.

I loved the first Iron Man movie and I hope the second one is good, too. Though I am skeptical of what there are doing with Blacklash. What's wrong with the classic costume.

And maybe my memory is a little hazy, but I thought his name was Blacklash, not Whiplash or was Whiplash his original name?

I can't seem to remember?

It looks like he's wearing a prison jumpsuit. Perhaps this is how he initially appears and he'll look better in the final confrontation. Doc Oc first showed up wearing pajama pants and a trench coat in Spider Man 2.

He's gone by both. And there have been OTHER Whiplash and Blacklash characters (including a female Whiplash, and a VERY weird bondage pair using both names that briefly served with the Thunderbolts during Civil War and claimed to be friends of the Struckers).

Hopefully this leads into some movie version of the Armor Wars.

What's wrong with the classic costume.

It's called "practicality." Only Magneto pulls off the cape-look in modern day villainry. You put /that/ in a movie, and there's no way any audience-goer is going to take him seriously. Seriously.

I personally approve of the choice, especially of the simplicity of it, and hope it remains that simple (if not with something like a little shoulder-armor action once he's established himself beyond prison) through-out the movie.

I have to wonder how Favreau will do the Mandarin when he does him. I wonder if they'll go the route of the new cartoon and give him some pretty badass armor.
