I'm...more than a little surprised by this, but apparently Marvel and Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series is going to get a midnight release for the first issue. As has happened in countless other media, participating comic stores will be opening at midnight JUST to release this comic (and older material, but nothing else from that release date will be available at midnight).

Original source with more details.

Interesting idea, but...I can't say that I'm expecting any real success. Even if it DOES have Stephen King's name attached.

Actually, it sounds like it could be some good stuff. Having read The Dark Tower, I can tell you it's a killer story, at least...

I'm not saying Dark Tower won't be good, I'm saying that I doubt it's enough to get people into a comic book store at midnight JUST to buy it. Though comic fans are the type of people to camp out in front of a store JUST for the sake of being the first to do SOMETHING. So...I dunno.

IMO, they'd probably get a better reception with the final installment of Civil War, i've never even heard of this comic and having anything to do with Stephen King just makes me feel sleepy at the sound of it.
