Remember a while ago, where a picture of Kasumi, somewhere in her teens, and Boijaa (the blue-haired woman from the first movie) holding hands with a little girl was posted here? Well, it was actually an early trailer of the first movie.

I've actually known this for a long time now, but I didn't have an actual clip of the trailer to prove it because people were asking "how the hell can we see this trailer", until it was posted on SPPf.

Very interesting. And what the heck does it have to do with the movie?

Following the trend of having absolutely no footage from the film, I see. I like the shot of the Rockets on a huge warship...
 
Trailers have included footage not in the final cut before, yet focussing on something that never makes it into the movie and doesn't even appear to fit in it is strange... (Though a lot of changes apparently happened. It would be interesting to see how the movie was originally going to go.)

So does the Japanese tell us anything interesting?
 
Aargh, I hope that didn't air on NHK World Premium... Gah, I need to check the specials schedule more often. Then again it may be an old show.

The music for the one they used is an adaptation of first movie version... but the some parts sound similar to the original version. Probably a combination of both - since Mezase Pokémon Master '98 was partially orchestrated. The cut is the one used in movie 1 - the other movies use different excerpts.

So that's where those Misty pics came from. Makes you wonder what was the idea for that movie in the first place. Though the scenes with older Misty look like a video clip for that song Pocket ni Fantasy.

Oh and that Rica Matsumoto performance is awesome. :D

Holy wow, the first movie really changed a lot. o.o If only they would do some kind of special "Here's some stuff we originally had in mind for the first movie that we decided to make into a non-canon extra for fans" OVA.
 
Would someone who knows Japanese be considerate enough to translate whatever dialogue there might be? I can't hear any sound on the computer I'm using.
 
It's mostly from the song Poketto ni Fantajii. It starts out with this, the last word ending right before the title screen comes up:

Woman: Hey I wonder What are your dreams?
Girl: To get the 151 Pokemon!
Woman: Oh Just like mine!
Girl: E~? That's odd since you're an adult
Woman: What the heck~ I mustn't?
Girl: It's not that you mustn't but...
Woman: Hey You What other sort of dreams do you have?
Girl: U~h Another dream Let me see...

Some instrumental, then it goes to this from when the pink-haired girl is whispering to Boija-san till the very end:

Woman: When I was still a child,
I had in my pocket many treasures.
Even until now sometimes I peek.
Girl: By any chance is that Pikachu?
Woman: So what is it?

Both: Children of the past Children of the present
The stuff in their pockets no matter when

The instrumental part doesn't really fit with the pictures, to me.

At the end, during the "ran"-ing, someone says, "This summer: theatrical edition Pocket Monsters: Mewtwo's Counterattack. Also playing*: Pikachu's Summer Vacation."

*I think that's what "doujijouei" (同時上映) means.

I would love to see the original concept of the movie, it doesn't look much like what we got in theaters. They really should release a special edition with bonus footage of the cuts, old concepts, and more stuff like that.
 
Trivia: Boija is voiced by Kobayashi Sachiko. Pocket-ni Fantasy is performed by Sachi & Juri - Juri is Ihata Juri; Sachi is, of course, Kobayashi Sachiko.
 
What he heck? Well, they were probably planning to have the characters growing up back then >_> I hope it just could go like this... Also did you notice something? The second cloud is not a Pokemon. Maybe it is a beta-morph like the others we know. Also, you can download the trailer from here
