I missed the GBA era of the handheld pokemon games, & I was wondering, is this the first time {on the DS games} that they've given an option to play as a girl?

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Crystal was first.

Thankyou so much. :) I never did get that one. What did the girl character look like? She looked the same? I'm sorry for the silly questions, again!

EDIT: Also! I feel like such an oldbie. I've only played Yellow, Gold & Silver. :(

I'll try to get an image of the Crystal girl...

This is an anime character who is strikingly similar...

The girl in the GBA versions was different too, correct?

Yup, and your rival was the opposite gender.

If you've ever watched Pokemon Advanced, May is basically the female.

I'll get ya all of them...

This is her in Ruby/Sapphire.

This is what she looks like in Emerald, an improved version like Crystal or the Japanese Blue (and arguably, Yellow) was.

This is the female in FireRed and LeafGreen, remakes of the original generation.

Ahhh! Thankyou guys so much! The previous versions I have played have only had a male character option! I've missed out on so much! Thankyou!

I think the DS Pokemon girl looks the best, but thanks for showing me now. :)

On the DS games, there's also Pokemon ranger which lets you choose your gender, if you want to count that game. It was pretty fun.

I think Crystal was my favorite female chara. I think it's the hat XD

And MD, certain Pokemon are limited to Female and Male as your player character.
