I wasthinking back to when I first got my pokemon games and got something in it for the first time. The things I remember are:

The first time I had Sapphire, I dived at route 126 and caught a relicanth the first pokemon I found when I dived. And its supposed to be hard to find a relicanth! Actually I have not been able to do that again.

In sapphire too, the first time I went into spear pillar on sapphire I found and caught a shiny sableye which I called "Red Sab" as it looked red on my GBA, but it was actually brownish.

When I got my DS Lite and Pearl game, the first time I got the Poke Radar, I used it in a patch of grass for first time and got a sentrent! Then I was happy when I got to Stark Mountain first time and saw the weezing/camerupt/poliwhirl etc.. and knew I could catch them in game.

In sapphire after about a day of trying, I finally got to top floor of sky pillar and found rayquaza and caught it after 6 tries (it kept KOing itself when it got confused after using outrage)

Any thing you saw for first time in games and thought, thats cool or good or similar?
 
My first shiny in Ruby threw me for a loop. It was a shiny Numel. I thought it was either a glitch or an easter egg-type thing (since it was red and blue for Ruby and Sapphire). I caught it anyway, and found out what the frick it was later on.

As for D/P, I'd have to say that the first time it really caught my attention was when I approached Dialga. It was really flashy, and the use of 3D graphics was really awesome. I've seen a preview of Platinum, and it looks like that part is going to be even better on there. Torn World's gonna be awesome.
 
When i was EV training my flygon for speed and i ran into a shiny starly after a 7 chain
 
When I was little, and I ran into my Shiny Shroomish, which I thought was the coolest thing in the world! I then thought that every pokemon had a red version of themselve, until I found my shiny Abra.I then learned about shiny pokemon (and relised that my Entei and Mantine on my Gold and Silver were shiny).
 
On my first, maybe second, sapphire game I found a shiny Wurmple and I caught it even though I didn't know what a shiny was back then.
 
I was just training my Pokemon on Pearl, not even using Pokeradar, and found a shiny Ponyta. I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.

Glitch city and pokemob ovrr level 100 in red made me say "WOW"
Seeing latias for the first time was pretty cool especially when I didnt know about it.
But my favourite thing ever happened in gold. I was going into the city directly above from the daycare and walked into the grass just outside it when the 3 dogs appeared , 1 after the other 0_o and me with no pokeballs :(
 
In emerald, I was wondering through artisan cave, and found two shiny smeargles in a row!!
 
when i was heading up to Mt. Pyre on sapphire and a shiny tentacool popped up! I had one ball on me at the time and i wasnt sure if i should use an ultra ball on a tentacool that was level 20.. But i threw it.. and i caught it! Happiest Day of my pokemon playing life since i got my feraligtr to level 100.
 
I like how you guys are bragging about all the shinies you got on your gba games. I thought they had done away with shinies because I thought that only red gyarados had a diffrent color in G/S/C until I encountered a ponyta in Crystal with blue flames and had the same sparkle as the Gyarados so I was thinking wait a minute somethings not quite right. So after i caught it I learned about shinies. But back to the story. I had never seen a shiny in my GBA games until playing my FR the second time through surfing to Curillian cave when i encountered......a tentacool with green bubbles instead of red ones. I almost did a backflip I was so excited but I only has "2" ultra balls and all of my pokemon on me were level 56 and up seeing as I was trying to get mewtwo and train in the cave so you can bet that I was nervous. I threw the first ultra ball it wiggles....once....twice...Breaks! I'm sweating now! I am so nervous but then I looked at my team again and remembered that I had a Farfetch'd on my team that was lvl 23, three levels higher than the tentacruel. So I throw it out. I make it use peck it critically hits the Tentacruel although and leaves him with 1/4th hp left. It's not enough for a guaranteed successful catch but I don't know if I will kill him if i hit him again. I go with my best instinct and throw my last ultra ball it wiggles.....once, twice, third time, I am sweating like crazy now as I anticipate whether it clicks or not and....It does! I was jumping up in the air with excitement because of how happy I was. And then *this is no lie* right after that battle while trying to surf to the pokecenter I encounter Raikou for the first time but I was in too good of a mood to care that I had no pokballs left to even attempt to catch it.
 
yeah that is pretty cool but i seriously did catch a tentacool I mean its a tentacruel now but we could go into a trade and I could let you check it's stats, and it will even say arrived from kanto.
 
I was training up a Pokémon on Ruby by the Daycare Center, then all of a sudden, up pops a Shiny Illumise.

I made a happeh face that day.

that is good, considering how hard it is to actually find one in those games, let alone a shiny!
 
This thread has become First Time You Ecountered A Shiny.. My first shiny was a Voltorb in Sapphire. That was the first time I play pokemon, and I dont even know about shinies. But I caught it anyway, as I thought it looked cool in blue. I searched around for other Voltorbs with different colour but all I got were red ones. :p
 
the time it happened to me was when i caught my salanence. and yes i mean caught with an ultraball
 
In LG. I was doing the usual hunting for items on Treasure Beach when I ran into a shiny Tangela. Up until then I had completely forgotten that shinies even existed, so you can imagine how happy I was when I found him. It took a lot of effort to catch the little guy, but he was worth it.
 
In emerald, running into a shiny Sunkern in the Safari Zone, and actually catching it! It's a big deal when it had a huge chance of fleeing.
 
An orange Poochyena on Emerald. well, the GBASP made it look orange. Like many people when faced with their first shiny, I went WTF but still caught it. This was well before D/P, maybe even before the DS, so I have since restarted, but I will never forget it.

More recently, I encountered a shiny Rotom! Not via chaining, obviously. I just banged on the TV, first time, and there it was! I'm gonna hang onto it and transfer it to meh Platinum file...when it comes out here.

Also in awesomeness was when I got three level 100s in quick succession on my Diamond file; Charizard, Dragonite and Tyranitar. I now have a Raichu also (obtained at lv 100) and two temporary Johto starters, also at lv. 100. Mewtwo is my favourite Uber, and the only one I will consent to use. Finding that in the Pal Park was inordinately difficult, and incredibly satisfying!
 
on my first fire red, i was in viridian forest looking for a caterpie so i could evolve it and the first pokemon i run into there was... a shiny pikachu!! i was so excited and lucky i never used any of my forst 5 pokeballs yet. :)
