Five new Poké Lids to be installed in Fukui Prefecture, featuring Ambassador Pokémon Dragonite

The Pokémon Local Acts program is showing off the newest additions to its Poké Lids project, which places manhole covers decorated with Pokémon around Japan in an effort to encourage tourism. The five new lids will feature Dragonite, who was nominated as the prefecture’s Ambassador Pokémon earlier this year, in scenes with other Pokémon.

Dragonite was selected to be Fukui Prefecture’s Ambassador Pokémon due to the area’s numerous geographical features whose names are associated with dragons, such as the Kuzuryu River. Fukui Prefecture also has a reputation for having a large concentration of dinosaur fossils, which naturally leads to it being the location of the Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum, the prefecture’s main tourist destination.

A Dragonite flying scene will be placed in Ono, Dragonite sleeping with Stunfisk will go in Tsuruga City, Dragonite and Butterfree in Minami Echizen Town, Dragonite with Rookidee in Obama City, and finally, Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite will be placed in Ikeda Town. The Poké Lids will be installed over the next week, with the final installation happening October 1st.
