Though I don't really care. I don't burn flags. I don't know anyone who burns flags. Frankly, if you look up "non-issue" in the dictionary it's one of the top issues next to gay marraige and abortion.

I take issue is this measure. Do we really need to waste our time outlawing something that is so rare? Don't have more important things like I don't know...a war going on? And they want to waste our time with is stupid issue?

I don't support flag burning but damnit, this was nothing more than a weak attempt for the Republican to energize their base. It seems like Republican policy is about energizing the base. They're mission is to energize their base instead of running this country.

Can we now move onto something more important. Like National Health Care that works, getting our troops home, and stopping the bleeding away of good American jobs.

Do they even have a study of just how many flags are burned in the U.S.? If they did, the results would be very low. Countries that hate the U.S., however...

Stupid stunt by the Reps. Happy it failed.

What is NOT a stupid stunt by the reps these days?

Rep's List of Things That Will Get People to Love Us:
* Don't get caught spying on every aspect of the population's life (To Do)
* Build a wall to keep out those damn spics from taking over our valuable jobs in the food-service and waste-management sectors
* Keep the damn queers from marrying us
* Say how much we love the troops
* Guns for everybody!
* Protect flags, the nation's most important resource.
* Stop people from cloning humans, thus causing an army of souless devil-children
* Talk about how much we love our families

....Those quotation marks are awful. BURN THEM LIKE WE WOULD AN AMERICAN FLAG FOR NO REALLY REASON THE REPULICANS CAN PROVIDE.

Not an election ploy my ass. If it wasn't, why now? Apparently /again/ when it doesn't seem to have gone through the last times either. Or did I read that wrong.

As someone said on another forum...

"Attacking a symbol of freedom is bad. Attacking the freedom the symbol stand for to protect the symbol is a complete lapse in logic.

Then again, when have the rednecks Rep. partisans ever been anything remotely like logical? (The partisans, not the lawmakers. The lawmakers are perfectly logical : they're activating their bible belts androids for election year)

Just to keep this in context, there has been but four cases of this in the US's 200+ year history, so I don't think this is a big and scary issue as people like to make out.

Besides, if you want to burn a flag, why first of all, and is a jail term really necessary?

Someone needs to inventa flag that burns more cleanly and efficiently. It might solve our fuel problem.

What's sickening is that most American flags are not made in America. I think there's one Company here in Michigan that makes American flags and the rest are in Asia. So if you really care about the flag, make sure it says made in America. For one thing, you make sure a Michigander keeps their job.

Burning flags is fine with me... it just seems like a waste of money to me. Flags can be quite expensive, you know.

I once supported such an amendment on grounds of patriotism, I've since changed, esepcially with the increasing polarization and socialism of this country. Legal or not, I sure as hell wouldn't burn a flag anyway (unless it's a flag of Palestine or the United Nations, both of which I stringently despise)

Why do so many Americans hate freedom so much? It's scary that this came close to actually passing. It's incomprehensible to me how anyone could actually be that dumb to want to outlaw flag burning.

How is that hating freedom? I was against the ban as well, but...c'mon. If ALL they were doing was trying to ban flag burning, I'd love the government.

safety and security

Why do so many Americans hate freedom so much?
It's because the media and the goverment that backs it indoctrinates us all into believing that safety and security trump freedom and liberty every time. :complain: :complain:

“Those who would trade safety for freedom deserve neither.” - Benjamin Franklin

That would be Ben Franklin who said that.
