I was going to post this in the "Simple Questions" thread, but realized that it might not be simple enough to go in there. My question is regarding the HM/TM Flash.

In Pokemon R/S/E/FR/LG, it is HM 05. In Pokemon D/P, it is a TM. Pokemon that know HM moves in Gen Three cannot be transferred to D/P - this much I am aware of. But Pokemon can hold items when they are transferred.

So what happens if a Pokemon holding HM 05 Flash is transferred to Diamond or Pearl? Does it stay as an HM Flash in D/P? Does it become a TM? Does it turn into the HM 05 from D/P?

This is really puzzling me, does anyone know the answer?

No, but I'm tempted to try it. Though I do remember that HM's cannot be held by pokemon, just in case it is traded and a pokemon does not know a move in order to progress. An example would be trading a Poochyena holding HMO3 (Surf) while on Paciflog Town... surrounded by water, renderring escape impossible, unless you have a pokemon that knows Fly.

Yeah, only TM's are tradeable. If it was possible to trade between Diamond/Pearl to Fire Red/Leaf Green, then your question could be appropriate (what happens to the Flash TM?) but I suppose it would consider it a forbidden item anyway.

What if the Pokemon has already learned Flash? Is it allowed to be transferred?

You aren't allowed to transfer Pokemon knowing HMs (Which is why there isn't a flying Pikachu in DP) but Flash isn't an HM in DP...

So, are you allowed to transfer a Pokemon knowing Flash?

Probably not, since the reason for being unable to transfer HM Pokémon has to do with Generation III and not Generation IV.

Pokemon knowing any HM (Cut, Fly, Surf, Strength, Flash, Rock Smash, Waterfall and Dive) from the 3rd gen cannot be transferred to the 4th gen.

This is because of Flash and Dive, which are replaced by Defog and Rock Climb.

Not only for that reason, the power for some of the moves have changed and I think the accuracy may have changed on some too.

Attack Power, Accuracy and PP have changed in some moves. But when a pokemon with these moves are transferred, the changes instantly take place.

It's not because of the HM changes. It's because you NEED some HM Pokémon. If you are on Dewford and you transfer your only Surf and Fly Pokémon, how are you to get back? This applies to all HM-only-accessible areas.

I believe this was explained a few posts up.

I THINK in FR/LG you can transfer Dive Pokémon.

in Dewford just take the ferry back or fish with any rod (in fact the Old Rod is found there...)

I think however it is feasable that you DON'T get any of the Rods throughout the game and as such if you're in Pacifilog or Sootopolis then you might be able to get stuck?
(You can find the Super Rod in Mossdeep).

However can't you trade HM'd pokemon from gen III to gen III making it possible be stuck there anyway?
