Flint (Elite Four) vs. Ash

The Battle was more or less used to ignite Volkner's spark, also I find that it was a great way to show off the power of the elite four members such as Flint... That's why when I watch Ash take a beating, I wondered how much Ash had grown from all his journeys and whether if he had used Pokemon he trained earlier would he have done better then being OHKO in almost all except Pikachu who did well and held out well against Infernape who I thought should have at least looked like it had taken some damage from Pikachu.

So the thoughts running through my head are was Ash downplayed or is the elite four really so far from Ash's reach with his current tean and would his other pokemon do better like Charizard for example. What do you guys think.

I think that it would take some time until Ash's new pokemon improve but I think that ash hasn't trained his pokemon enough and I blame the writers.
The only reason pikachu fought good against Infernape because it was used to inspire Volkner of his times with his pikachu.

If Pikachu could even do as much as he did, then Charizard would have probably been a good matchup against Infernape.

I'm sure if any of Ash's pokemon could take down Infernape, it'd be Charizard.
