April 27 2:53 P.M.

Jodi Wykle knew her son would be thrilled when she gave him a new Nintendo DS for his birthday.

Instead, he was rocked.

According to WTSP-TV, the confused teen opened up his gift only to find bunch of stones and a rolled up Chinese newspaper in place of the popular handheld.

Needless to say, mom was equally stunned.

"When he opened it, he was pulling the seal off, my sister-in-law carries a pocket knife and she opened it and that's when he pulled it out and it was Chinese newspaper and a bunch of rocks," she explained.

The troubling discovery prompted the Florida woman to contact the local Wal-Mart where she bought the curious box and complain, but reportedly workers there told her it wasn't their problem and that she should contact Nintendo instead. Of course, Nintendo told her roughly the same thing, leaving mother and son with a $138 box of rocks.

"They don't want to do nothing. They want me to keep the box of rocks. I'm not buying a box of rocks for $138," she said.

Amazingly enough, however, Wal-Mart soon caved after learning that the same box of rocks had been previously returned by another disgruntled customer. How exactly it made it back onto store shelves remains a mystery, but for her troubles, Wykle was given a full refund and a $20 gift card.

It's not the first time Wal-Mart has gotten into hot water for selling a questionable handheld. Earlier this month, a PSP system bought at a different Wal-Mart store in Florida was found to contain a memory stick filled with pornographic images.

I worked for 2.5 years in a retail store that is known for customer service and this sentence irks me to no end. I understand that companies have to cover themselves financially, especially in times like these, but if a customer comes up to you and says they got a box of rocks, they should've given her a new DS immediately. Then Wal-Mart can contact Nintendo or the freight company and reclaim their loss.

Imagine the look on his face, poor tyke.

Trusting Wal-Mart to entrust the phrase, "The customer is always right" is like handing over your newborn to a mentally-unstable individual.
While I don't live in America personally, I've garnered the fact from this (a bit squicky) account especially that they just don't give two shits about their customers.

I believe Wal-Mart did not refund her out of the thought she'd deposited the rocks in to the box herself. There's always two sides to these stories.

I will hunt down the morons who run that Wal-Mart, and I will punch their lights out.
...Okay, maybe I'll just give them all a pink belly and some Nyquil.

I'd be mad at first but then I'd probably look back on it as amusing.

If that happened to me, I would be really pissed that I spent lots of money on a DS and found out that all the box had was a bunch of rocks.

That really does suck, and it's unfair. The people who put that thing back on the shelf should be fired. But $138? DSis are around $170, right? and DS Lites around $120?

Oh man, what a disappointment that must have been for the poor kid. At least he was compensated for Wal-Mart's idiocy.

Also:

That was awful. XD;

The MSRP for a Lite is 129.99, if I'm not mistaken. So... yeah, that's overpriced. It happens. Everything is more expensive up here in Alaska, even in the cities.

I like how Wal-Mart initially claimed it wasn't their problem.

Good for them for getting a refund.

My folks bought me a set of cooking pots and pans for Christmas. I opened the box and it was a bunch of mismatched garbage. Wonderful gift. I took it back the day after Christmas and got a cash refund. I've never gone back to Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart probably did it. They just want more publicity. If not, this is exactly why my mom NEVER lets me go there.

Dude, why would they? This is not the kind of publicity Walmart (That's what their name is now) wants. The family was gonna sue them if Walmart didn't give them restitution. It's logic.

I could understand why they'd sue... unfourtounately, people manipulate other people with the three words, "I'll sue you"... this is the prime example. There would be a odds of 999 to 1 that Wal-Mart would win. They HAD to give the family restitution. :drowsy:

Still, not the kind of publicity anyone wants. And it's Walmart now, not Wal-Mart. And what about the pornographic memory stick found in a PSP bought at another Florida Walmart? D'you think Walmart did that for publicity, too? Walmart doesn't need publicity. It has enough on its own.

Maybe not. Over here in the UK, loads of people went to Turkey, but the hotels were crap. There were rats, nothing in the rooms, it was dirty, and there wasn't any good food. 30% of the people got a disease. They never got their money back.

That's terrible!! They should DEFINITELY sue NO MATTER WHAT in a situation like that!!!:eek:hdear:
