Food in the Pokemon world?

We have all seen tamed Pokemon consuming some form of edible matter recieved from their trainers right? So what do you think its made out of? Obviously the people in this mystery world may eat some form of meat. In the Canalave Library a book states the phrase: "Pick bones clean" or something along those lines.
We may also undoubtedly assume that wild Pokemon prey on each other for a functioning eco-system. So what Pokemon eats what? We know that Zangoose and Seviper fight but that's all the evidence visible to the untrained Pokenerd.
But if this world sees Pokemon as "sentient" companions, why are they perhaps compelled to eat them? Do these people have Miltank fields, Combusken sheds, Magikarp trawlers or Grumpig farms?
What do you think?
 
DPP pretty much confirmed that people either once ate, or still do eat Pokemon. If it is true, then I'm guessing it's ones that are similar to animals that we eat.
The notion of people or Pokemon eating other Pokemon isn't very shocking to me; I'd actually find it odd if they didn't. If it's thought of in real world manners, then it's important for population control. For example, Ratatta would probably be eaten a lot by various species since they multiply like crazy.
Wasn't it in the past, people would eat their dogs/cats/horses sometimes, like when food was scarce? Those animals are considered companions throughout the world, but there are still cultures that eat them sometimes, whether we think it's a good idea or not.
 
I think Pokemon are tasty but Combusken is somewhat rare I don't think there widely eaten
 
Aside from the Canalave myths, farfetch'd was confirmed to be hunted for food. I see no reason why pokemon would not be eaten. They obviously wouldn't eat the same ones they keep as pets or use to battle, and it sounds like hunting them in the wild is also forbidden. Maybe they breed them on farms specifically for food. (Yum, tauros burgers.)
 
I think people in the PokeWorld should start eating Zubat.

There would be much rejoicing. :)
 
Actually I'm pretty sure Zubat would taste absolutely horrible. They're skinny as heck, not to mention Poison types.

same as crocodile, but when it's loaded with BBQ sauce, it's awesomeness on a stick

I was gonna say something about how they could simply cut off the heads like they do with rattle snakes and such, but then I remembered that Pokemon seem to be able to poison each other simply by making physical contact with each other, so that idea goes out the window.
 
In the same vein as Zubat, I want a store to open up that sells nothing but Tentacool.
 
Well, as for fish Pokemon, we know that Magikarp can't be eaten because its scales are way too hard.

In "Pokemon Shipwreck", Meowth broke his teeth when he tried to eat James' Magikarp. XD
 
I doubt that'd work since they're only superficially similar to eggs.
 
Exeggcute are seeds. They still might taste good, though. They probably taste like coconut pudding inside.
