Hi!

Normally, I don't get asked favours from friends in regards to products made in or that can be made in Japan, but I was sent this e-mail from a fellow friend from another messageboard I also frequent, and this is what he had to say:

"Inu,

I am interested in photography, and as a club, we have been learning to develop our own prints. As such it was noted that we could use a 'rubber stamp' to frank the back of our pictures.

The only problem is that the rubber stamp we had in mind, is a copy of the old 'UK Post Office' franks - and even though the Post Office has not use these types of franking in the last 20 years or so, It is difficult (over here in the UK) to find someone to make me a copy.

(I don't know why as this is neither copyright or illegal - and for stamp collectors unfranked mint stamps are more valuable than used franked ones - and besides, if you were stupid enough to frank your own stamps, you could not use them again!).

The bottom line is I can't seem to get anyone in the UK to make one - however, I believe that they are easier to get outside the UK, that is why I
asked. But if not - that is OK too as I will just try and get something similar.

I was told the best place to get one made would be in China or Japan.

You don't know anyone who is Japanese do you?

If you could get such a rubber-stamp made, I will send a photocopy of what the frank should look like.

John"

...

So, would anyone here be able to help out my friend here with this?

My e-mail is inuyasha -at- queenzone -dotto- com (replace -at- and -dotto- with the correct characters of course), so if you can help me, please e-mail me there so I can forward any helpful information or contact info to him, please and thanks in advance!

Hmm, why not do as East Asian artists do and put a seal (hanko / inkan) on the work? Might be expensive though...

I personally suspect the registration fee makes up the bulk of the expense in getting a registered official seal. Though the anticounterfeit measures must also cost quite a chunk...

Hmmmm....wouldn't know there I'm afraid. I don't recall ever actually having my seal officially registered, though I suppose it probably was.

Actually....I'm not even sure there were any anticounterfeit measures on mine whatsoever.

If it was made of some exotic material like ivory or jade - that just might be it.
