For the remakes, which is the canon game?

When it comes to the games, most people decide the third game is the canon game. Crystal, Emerald, Platinum..

But what about the remakes? There is no one game that combines both remakes and adds new material, making a canon.

Maybe it goes FR - HG, LG - SS? So that creates two parallel time-lines..

Are we just supposed to use our heads and believe there's that the exclusives from both game aren't exclusive, and happen in the canon?

Those games don't have to worry about which version is canon because they both have generally the same story.

The remakes are considered 1 game, and are therefore cannon.

The way I think about it, is to compare it to films. The originals are the theatrical edition, then the remakes are the extended cut you find on home releases. With films, the latter is taken to be canon. So in this case, remakes are canon.

@Joshawott: But... that didn't answer the question. We know the remakes are canon, but which of them?

Okay, for FR/LG I think there are no storyline differences, but for HG/SS there is... Lugia/Ho-Oh.

The remakes are canon, because they are the ones that expand on the originals and make the originals better.

I decide both are canon, and use all games in my own fanon-timeline. D8 It makes things easier.

I subscribe to the belief that the two exist in Separate Continuities. Unless I've forgotten something big (which, to be fair, is likely) then the main series games (Blue, Red, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, White and Black) have never brought up the remakes (FireRed / LeafGreen and HeartGold / SoulSilver), where as I believe HG/SS have some call backs to FR/LG.

Red (FireRed) / Emerald --> Gold (HeartGold) / Platinum --> Gray
Green (LeafGreen) / Emerald --> Silver (SoulSiver) / Platinum --> Gray

Two separate continuities. That's how I look at it, personally.
