Is it just me, or does the anime remind you of a harem series? Think about it. You got Ash, who very much starts out as the "average everyboy", who, through a rather unlikely turn of events, becomes quite popular with the fairer sex; all the while keeps us guessing which girl is more than a friend to him. (Sk8r Boi, anyone?) Your thoughts.

That's...not like the series at all. The key elements missing are that ALL the girls have to show some overt degree of romantic feelings for him AND they all have to be /with/ him at the same time.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this thread.

...No... Uh... What girls are actually confirmed to like Ash in a romantic way?

There's... a little evidence that Misty liked him and that's all I can remember. One of the main points of the series is that Ash is friendly. With both girls and boys. He makes a lot of friends.

Just because a girl likes him doesn't mean they want to be in a relationship with him. OTL

Excluding the ones he travels with, the number is...4, off the top of my head. Latias, Macey, Angie, and Anabel. Melody doesn't count.

Including the ones he travels with, it's five.

Including his pokémon, it's seven. Aipom and Chikorita had crushes.

Still not a lot when you think about how many girls are in the series/girls Ash is just generally friends with...

Anabel clearly had a crush on him, and more recently, Angie.

But I don't think it is what this series is all about. It only occasionally touches on romantic issues.

Not at all. As a show for children, Ash is going to exemplify the concept of friendship. That's pretty much it.

There is not nearly enough evidence to suggest that Pokemon is anything like a harem anime. You have to be on a shipping frenzy to think it comes even remotely close to it.

Like Luna Tiger mentioned, there have only been a few girls that have shown interest in Ash (aside from perhaps some minor one-off characters). Misty's crush is/was (debatable depending on whether or not you believe she still has feelings for him) undoubtedly the closest thing the anime got to a girl having a definitive, irrefutable attraction to Ash (I'm an Advanceshipper and I know that fact can't be denied). One girl does not equal a harem.

I suppose you could say it's harem-like in the way so many girls are friends with Ash, but that also misses the point of a harem anime.

At least the anime isn't as embarassing to watch as most harem anime. Well, not yet, anyway.

Isn't the point of a harem anime to create comedic situations amongst the thousandsseveral main-character-centric ship teases? Last I checked, Ash isn't walking in on May naked or falling into Anabel's non-existent rack. XD

No not really I mean it ain't like the manga I read and sure some girls might have feelings for him but he doesn't comply to it I mean it ain't like Yu Gi Oh when some characters start getting hit by cupid
