I used to belong to another vBulletin forum where we had a forum shop, and it worked out really well. Has anyone ever thought about adding one on here?

Basically, you get a certain amount of points for everything you do around the forum (EX: viewing a thread = 1 point, posting = 5 points, starting a thread = 10, etc.).

The points can be used to buy things such as changing your username to a different color, putting ribbons for certain causes ("this user is against drugs") or items underneath you username, donating/giving items and points to other users as gifts, and ton of other stuff. There was also a part of the shop where you could buy certain options, like the ability to view hidden users. The admin controls the stuff that will be available in the shop, though.

I thought it made the forum a lot more enjoyable, but I'm not sure how hard it would be to add. (And I've never come across any other vBulletin forum with a shop other than the one I mention.) Either way, I just thought I'd throw this suggestion out there for the hell of it.

I know what you're talking about. An old GFX forum I was staff on had that...it worked well but more than half the forum didn't even know how to use it.

I'd like to see it but idk how it would work on a forum as big as this one.

Yeah, its not really practical. I'm pretty sure to do half of that stuff, you'd have to have usergroups for every single person and it would get way to hard to manage.

Could do what Something Awful does and force people to pay for extra stuff.

They have something like this implemented on one of the sites I admin on. We have several shops, and our graphic artists create some of the items. Some example of these items are Staff figures (our head artist creates caricatures of each) and then sell them for a certain amount of points. There are also some items from the actual site (such as paintbrushes and such) that can be used for a variety of purpose, it just goes well with the theme and having a different use for an item is interesting.

As for name changes we have about one name change a year and if people want more they have to purchase an item called a Jumbleberry Potion which allows the user to change there name to any available name.

On Bulbagarden though I can't see this being much use and we pretty much make up for it with all the other activities that we have such as the International Pokemon Gym League and the brand new Pokemon Ultra RPG along with a few other extras added in here and there.
