Been meaning to put this up for a couple of months, but I just keep getting sidetracked. Anyways, for those not in the know, Free Comic Book Day is an annual event held on the first Saturday of May (according to Wikipedia, it usually follows a comic movie release. ...Never realized it until I read that). Most comic shops in North America (supposedly) participate in it and pretty much every comic company puts out one or (in a couple of rare cases) two comics for the event (usually they're unique comics, not simply reprints), which are given away for free for customers who come into comic book shops (and I'm sure a few small bookstores who sell comics). Sometimes there are certain catches (it's up to the individual comic store to decide how they hand them out, and whether to force people to buy something else first, but the specific comics themselves are always free).

This year's comics. Of note:

From DC: Blackest Night #0, leading in their big summer event and DC Kids Mega Sampler.
From Marvel: A New Avengers/Dark Avengers/Thor crossover and Wolverine: Origin of an X-Man.
From IDW: A Transformers/G.I. Joe flip comic.
From Dark House: A Star Wars: Clone Wars comic.
Alongside stuff from Shonen Jump, Bongo Comics (Simpsons), Archie, Image, and many, many more.

Above link has previews for a couple of the comics.

Free Comic Book Day's Main Site.
A search engine to find participating comic stores, and a general "intro to comics" guide.

Hm, neat lineup. I might go for the Simpsons one and the Minimate.

A little disappointed Tokyopop's not doing anything this year.. I liked their samplers from previous years. It's probably part of their cost cutting measures (they WERE pretty much full GN sized paperback anthologies, so they couldn't have been cheap...)

For some reason, your links aren't working, GrnMrvl.

Anyway, I got some good stuff last year, so I'm looking forward to this. I'm hoping Atomic Robo has another good FCBD offering.

That's really cool! I forget about free comic book day! I need to remember this day for sure... if only I can find a comic shop...(lol)

Don't know what's going on. Tried them once, they didn't work. Started attempting to screw around, and decided to try them again because the URL's were right, and they worked.

www.freecomicbookday.com is the mainpage for the site. Not TOO hard to navigate, so if the above links don't work, just copy/paste or type that and it should work fine.

I'm hoping Atomic Robo has another good FCBD offering.

Atomic Robo was...interesting last year. Wasn't my favorite, but wasn't bad. And there WILL be an Atomic Robo comic this year. The Free Comic Book Day website even has a preview.

Thanks, that's much better.

I guess I agree. It's funny and entertaining, but the way the storylines rarely seem to come to a satisfactory conclusion (and the ones that do lack a satisfactory beginning) annoys me. But the way Dogs of War 2 wrapped up a storyline from the first series has me hopeful.

Oh, the Transformers comic is an ANIMATED offering! I was figuring it'd be G1. Well, I'm definitely getting that, then. (I love G1, of course, but the IDW continuity is already too deeply set for me to try catching up now without lots of money).

Oh, the FCBD site's working now? I tried a week or so ago and it froze up my computer. o.o

Mmm, I'm going for Avengers, Bongo Comics, Atomic Robo, Sonic, and Wolverine. Hoping my LCS has some good GN sales going on, because my collection in some serious need of new additions.

Ooh, there's a Love and Rockets preview? Do want.

I was wondering when Free Comic Book Day would be this year.. looking forward to it.

Looks like we'll be getting the IDW offering. As to anything else, I'm not too sure. (And by "we" I really mean Prime.) In any case, I can't wait to REread the TF story. I loves me some Animated.

Crap in a bucket! I didn't realize it was a reprint either (I didn't want to look at the preview, to avoid spoilers... even though I watch previews for Animated episodes... I swear this makes sense somehow). Since I got The Arrival TP yesterday, I guess I have another slot in my six books.

So... I guess I'll go for Atomic Robo, and... uh... I'm not sure. Wolverine, Sonic, Star Wars, and TMNT might be interesting. And I may get William Shatner Presents just for the hell of it.

Went out today and my comic book store was PACKED with people. Got Wolverine, Avengers, TMNT, Resurrection, Stuff of Legends, Atomic Robo, TF/G.I. Joe, Blackest Night, Cyberforce/Hunter-Killer, and Fist of Justice (plus a few back issues they were handing out for free). Bit disappointed by the Tranformers/G.I. Joe comic being nothing more than reprints (including reprinting two of the stories from G.I. Joe #0 which, I BELIEVE, cost a quarter). But the rest are cool enough.
