I'm surprised that no one has made a discussion thread about this. Basically, what restrictions can we place on the battle competitions? Do you think we could limit things the amount of turns you can take? What about restricting certain Pokemon like legendaries or overused one like they can do in the first official Global Link competitions/battle seasons?

Also, what kind of custom competition do you plan on making? As for me, I'd like to make competitions that can replicate as many Battle Facilities of the Hoenn and Sinnoh Battle
Frontiers as possible. What about you guys?

Discuss!

They seem quite limited and terrible so far. You can't even customize species you want to see. From Serebii-

The customisable rules in Pokémon Global Link hosted tournaments are as follows
Name - The Name of the competition
Description - The Description of the competition
Ruleset - Currently only Singles & Doubles are listed
Pokédex - Currently can select Alola Pokédex or National Pokédex
Restrictions - Can choose whether to be Pokémon Sun/Moon only or to include Pokémon transfered via Pokémon Bank
Duration - The length of the competition
Timer - The duration of battles | 10 minutes or 30 minutes.
Battles Per Day - The number of battles allowed per day
Competition Type - Public or Private
Participating Trainers - Everyone or Specified Trainers, with a selection allowing you to specify trainers

I would do Rotation battles with Hoenn Pokemon or something similar, but looks like it won't happen.

Aww I'd hoped you could at least choose which Pokémon are allowed to battle :( I would've loved to do a Cats VS Dogs competition with only feline and canine Pokémon allowed for example.

Only being able to choose between Sun/Moon or all Pokémon makes this a lot less fun, I do hope more restriction options are available later.

It's also interesting that there doesn't seem to be a level cap option, I think we should be able to put the level cap at 50 or 100, just like we can do in Super Secret Bases.

Yeah, while it's kinda neat that this uses the Gen VII Global Link it feels like a downgrade from Super Secret Bases when looking over what we know at this point. We need more details, really.

It seems pretty limited to me that the only options are to allow only pokemon in the Alola or National pokedex.

I think it would have been cool if you could host competitions with only the new Pokemon introduced in certain generations. Sure it might make some smaller gens like Johto or Kalos a bit limited but that would be part of the fun.

Maybe have it like a checkbox system so you could mix and match different generations.

Quite honestly, I'm just happy to have the option so far. I think it'd be a really stupid decision to make the limit "only Alola or all". Surely we'll be able to pick from more than just regions, too. It didn't seem to limited to me, but perhaps that's because my participation in online competitions are few and far between.

My friends and I will probably host random competitions, some with legend and some without. Just mindless fun for us to enjoy and test our teams.

This is basically the official version of the casual tournament idea I had. Where people that want to play in online tournaments but don't have time for breeding/training or don't care about the meta game could still play a casual version of online multiplayer without fear of having their whole team K.O.'d within the first minute.

It could be expanded upon, yes. But all and all this really sounds like a great new feature and I hope it sticks around.

The words "Currently only" says to me that this will include Triple and Rotation in the future. I also think that this will be expanded heavily in the near future.
